Q:

big-bore springers?

Make a long story short http://www.airgunadvice.net/viewtopic.php?t=15334 caught this post from a newbie asking about .25 cal HW80.

Well I had to nicely tell him not be silly. Just because the manufacturer is putting a larger barrel on a 17 cal power plant does not mean it is right. I tried to explain it.

Next thing you know the usual butt-heads come in with their 2 cents and their stories about 100 yard shooting with HW50s 😀

And we wonder why they sell us smooth twist barrels?

I thought we are supposed to teach people the right airgun principles.

You try to explain something to people that bigger caliber is sure is good provided you have that muzzle energy behind it.

I don’t get it… but I think airgun forums should be informative with the right information that teach people good, basic principles of airgunning and caliber selection.

Roachcreek , my tx hc can shoot really accurate upto 70 yds and i have yet not put a tin of pellets thru her !
i am positively surprised by the accuracy and love the fact that i dont have to hump an airsource alongside any more.
yes she is less powerful than my talon and i will definitely get a pcp shortly but a springer is so much more ,well “ready”.
a tx does not have a reputation as a scope killer.
rest fpe alone is not king, shot placement is the dogs danglies for all kinds of shooting. that you can bear out with your long stint in LE.
to me it is all about accuracy and reasonable fpe.
i had popped crows at 85 yds and as per chairgun the remaining fpe was 8 fpe.
turns out it works fine ! will post real world results after i get my V-Mach kit from BAR.

Just what I thought, you won’t put any information out there that is your own.

If you can’t answer the question you asked us how are we supposed to answer it. 😕 You know it was a setup and now you are quiet.

So much for you making your point if you wont even make it.

Flame away flame boy, it’s what you came here for and it’s all you got. 😉

In a vacuum or in real life conditions Skiff? 😕

real life conditions let’s do tests.. I have done them.. I suggest you do it too.

As far as “bring up a point without being an ass” just look at how much shit was dumped on me for simply trying help. People are just throwing garbage without proof in my face.

He fucken said I rip people’s research and post as my own 😆 He is blowing gas and repeats what dishonest dealers and tuners have to say to discredit people like me.

Sure i’ll test them, send me the rifles and i’ll give it a go. Otherwise publish what you found.

Oh and you STILL didn’t answer my fucking question… If they stack which is more accurate?

I don’t see any reason why they should answer over there for the whining your doing over here. You WERE a dick and they canned the post because you couldn’t discuss anything without flaming people just like your doing here. Once again you added a flame about something we are not discussing… Get over it dude.

And you don’t answer questions either. Just keep on flaming.

It’s like trying to talk to a 16 year old who thinks they know it all but are just regurgitating what they read in some book. IF your over the age of 16 try to act like it, drop the flames and print YOUR findings.

I’m really interested to see how you can compare two different calibers that are used for different things and say one is better. Put up or shut up.

I won’t even respond to you if you feel I was flaming the posters there. That is crazy to say and baseless. Correcting them yes. I guess some of those assholes think they are above all to be corrected.

I just have no desire to feel your pain, or in this case twang. 😆

I shoot my TX200 say maybe once a month. I wanted to sell it, but it is an extremely accurate gun within 40-50 yards. It will about hang in with a 17 cal pcp’s.

Once in a while a little recoil is great. I like shooting springers in general. I like recoil.

But true after going up to the Condor or 80fpe Ranger or Sumatra you never come back to buying more springers.

Why don’t you say it there…?

You did bring your bitching about them here after all…

Because I know they are watching this thread closely. That is why I brought it here to be able to speak freely. I find it troubling that on their forum people turn to shit all the good topics. Especially people that better kept their mouths shut.

I never warmed up to springers.

But honestly, I only tried one, a BSA Improved Mdl D, which was in great shape, despite it’s 98 year old age at the time, but needed new leather seals.

I learned how to make the seals and then did a tutorial for the Vintage BSA site.

From what I have read, IMHO there has not been much progress in the 100 years since my rifle was made.

I finially sold it to fund the Ranger 45 purchase and all the air management tools to feed it.

Right now I have a AA S410 carbine FAC, the Ranger 45 and a Condor 25.

All shoot around an inch at 100 yards, from any position I want to shoot them, and I have all the air I need for them, so I feel independent, which is always one of the arguments for the springers.

I rejoice that I do not have to worry about scopes being devoured by them, nor how I hold them, or getting a hernia packing a springer as powerful as my PCP’s, they shoot where I hold them day in and day out.

I just have no desire to feel your pain, or in this case twang. 😆

So what am I missing here?

Regards,

Roachcreek

With wind or without?

How is what you quote “blowing gas”? Can’t you just bring up a point without being an ass?

Let’s say they stack five pellets on top of each other at 50 yards, which is more accurate?

This I have to hear… I know which one is technically more accurate, do you?

I still don’t get how you can cross compare the two calibers (for power and accuracy at a fixed distance) when they have features that are mutually exclusive… 😕

quote AASkiff:

p.s. If somebody on airgunadvice has something to tell me let them speak UP there openly.

😕 😯

Why don’t you say it there…?

You did bring your bitching about them here after all…

quote crowpopper:

I would rather have a more Arc in my Shot and more power downranger than less arc and less power
just saying thats all
to each his own.

don’t forget about shoot placement too. 🙂 Most of the stuff we shoot 3fpe won’t make that big of a deal.

And just try firing 17 cal pellet and 22 cal pellet out of TX or GAMO, or HW80 and see which caliber will penetrate deeper.

You are right that a heavier projectile retains more velocity. But not necessarily @ 20fpe @50 yards it may not be enough to take the crow out cleanly..

The ONLY 177 I own is some old ass Chineese Springer pistol underlever thing that I could probably Spit a Pellet faster than it does lol
Oh and My Daisy 880 LOL
I was getting 1/2″-3/4″ groups with my .22 TX
no need for .177 then Plus I like having the KE left over with the .22 as I mostly hunt and Want more downrange energy left on impact
i mean take a .177 exact and at 18 FPE at 50 yards there is only 9 left
take a .22 excact at 18 FPE at 50 there is 12 left
I mean 3FPE is quite alot when your talking about hunting and hitting a Skull right? I know I would rather have a more Arc in my Shot and more power downranger than less arc and less power
just saying thats all
to each his own.

p.s. If somebody on airgunadvice has something to tell me let them speak UP there openly.

The TX200 is very, very impressive in 17 and 22 calibers. 😯

Indeed, I consider it a masterpiece. Stunning woodwork, outstanding trigger, excellent accuracy and consistency. Heavy but so what…

Now all you need to do is to compare your 17 and 22 @50 yards and see which will be more accurate. 😉

Also fire them into a wooden board and see which pellets penetrates deeper. Then you will be on your way and making better judgments before blowing gas and barking at me like someones good doggy. And maybe you even can enlighten those .25 cal springer shooters on airgunadvice with your findings. Everything will correspond to what is written in them 16 year old booklets btw.. 😉

Ahhh the Tx200 MKIII I had one I let get away. 🙁 I have done this With too Many guns now. Now my plan is to Keep the Guns I like and Save up for the others I want. I went through a phase to buy and sell guns as fast as I could lol just so I could try them out. Well the 3 guns I really miss are my TX200 in .22 , My Mac1 LD in .22 and my Gamo 1250 Tuned and Rebarreled by RFM also in .22 All 3 were AWESOME shooters and Miss them
If Wok works with me I will be Getting the LD scratched off my List
Then its on to the TX200!!
