Q:

Condor high flow tank vs Talon tank

I thought this might be useful info.
Condor with Custom weighted hammer (Don’t know the weight) heavier than stock.
24″ barrel
Beeman Kodiak Extra Heavy pellets
Both tanks filled to 2,100psi

Talon Tank at 2,500 psi
FPS
Kodiak Extra Heavy/JSB Jumbo
877/940
I’ll do a 2,900psi fill tomorrow with a long shot string

Might not be as powerful but, the accuracy and the quietness
of the Condor with the Talon tank is what I was looking for….
The shots from the Talon tank were much tighter than the
Condor high flow.
Easy 5 shot one hole groups at 25yds with the Talon tank.
I’ll be trying the 65yd shot tomorrow.
It took 25 pump strokes to refill the Talon tank and 45
pump strokes to refill the High flow tank.
I am again impressed with this rifle…

You still have not tried what I suggested (or how I use my Condor .22) about a week ago in another thread, not that you want to tinker with it more.. you ‘re probably tired of that. But I had said to try filling to 2100-2200 with PW 0 to 2 at the most – with the Condor tank. It looks like you ‘ve tried 2600+psi fills and 2100psi, but you adjust the PW to 7 (or 4 one time?). If you go down to PW 0-1 and fill to 2100-2200psi, I think you’ll get the results you are looking for.. decent consistency, lots of shots and 1,000fps to start with (Kodiaks) or under, which should keep the gun pretty quiet. Using PW setting 4 to 7, uses up more air. Keep the PW really low with the Condor tank and you should be able to get a nice balance of consistency & power. But if the Talon tank does it for you without much tinkering stick with that.

Well decided the Condor tank was just way more
than I would ever need so i figured someone else
would enjoy it more so, I don’t have the high flow
tank anymore. I finally got it in my head (thanks to you guys)
that I can’t get big power, stealth, and accuracy all
at the same time…I am seeing now that there is a
trade off and a balance that you would just have to
live with one way or another…This is what I got this
morning with the Talon tank and the 18″ barrel with
shroud clipping fixed. I am finally satisfied with this
combo..I had no idea I could get that kind of fpe with
the pressure that low..I put the 25yd target at the bottom
so you can see the groups that correspond with the
shot strings…By all indictions of these results the 2,000psi
regulated tank I bought should rock…..That will be more
testing another day….
…Sorry for driving you guys nuts with all the changes…..

No problems here. I’m getting fine accuracy with my Condor shooting Kodiaks at 980 – 1000 FPS.

Man that is great….

Have you tried the condor tank with out the striker weight with the stock hammer . I have a .177 that has a stronger valve spring than the .22 condor tank but that combo gave me a better shot count than the talon tank with or with out the stricker weight . with a stock hammer .Marvin

Thanks for the info, looks like it worked out great. After testing I decided that the Talon tank with a stock Talon hammer fits the best of what I was looking for…The next thing I am going to check out is a regulated tank…..I’ll keep the best out of those 2 and sell the other….I should be done at that point until someone comes up with something else….Seems it never ends…

Thanks Tony…Looks like his advise of 30fpe max is right were my gun starts to get consistant….21.1gr at 818fps = 31.8 fpe
I didn’t get 40 full power shots but I was on PW 4. So that all makes sense….I thought I could get more power than that but oh well…Stealth and accuracy is what I am looking for….
Thanks again Tony….I think I am either were I want to be or really close…..

So looks like I should be filling to about 2,100 with PW 2 and check it from there….

Looks like your close, just some fine tuning…good luck and keep us posted!

Just grabbed the parts out of the mail box….New results…..

Well I found the bell curve but if you look close there are some really erratic
fps between shots that I can’t figure out how to fix…..
Would it be Top Hat adjustment? Maybe higher PW setting? I need help….
This is with a stock Condor hammer without the weight…
With the weight I could not see a bell curve at 2,800psi even with the PW on 0…
Let me know what you think.

Looks like you are on the right path. Try fiddling with the power wheel and the existing 2800 psi fill pressure to see if tha will bring you into a nice curve…if that doesn’t work, try different/lower fill pressures and pw setttings…

Not sure of Top Hat adjustments but there must be a ton of info. on this sight. Another route to take tomorrow is call MAC1 and ask Tim for advice on where to initially set that top hat adjustment, power wheel and fill presssure to get you in the ball park for fine tweaking.

Tony
