Q:

Cricket or Edgun POLL

Which do you prefer and why?

I don’t have neither but looking seriously into the Cricket. To me it has all the advantages over Edgun: price, shot count, superior regulator, magazine (that works) and looks. I’m going to wait a few months to see if they come up with a .25 compact. Otherwise I think I will get the .22 tactical standard. I just love the size of the .22 standard. Would prefer the .25 but it’s a little too long for me…

I have an R3 25 cal. long and a cricket 22 cal. standard and I love them both for different reasons. Where I live the houses are very close together so when I’m at home the cricket is my go to gun because its more backyard friendly. I also like its small size and its 14 round mag for those quick follow-up shots. Although the Edgun seems to have a better build quality, its something about this little gem that I’m drawn to 😎 . Now for the R3, this is my favorite hunting gun. I love the down range knock down power and the way those JSB’s buck the wind 😯
They both have been trouble free and super accurate :8:

I was told by TAG that I could special order a .25 Standard as well some time ago.

Contact Steve at Wild West Airguns, I know Steve and Ernest Rowe collaborated and built a .25 shorty and I believe it sold on the Yellow. You might not had to wait as long as you think.

Probably not the best of timing for an accurate poll. Also, preference varies with ones personal requirements. I have both (2 Eds and 1 Cricket) and wouldn’t give up either. I plan on getting a .177 Compact Cricket special order so it will be 2 and 2.

Shot count goes to Edgun in this regards due to efficiency per shot from the standard 200 bar fill start, but the Cricket fills to higher pressure so it gets to cheat a bit as long as you can fill it that high.

Thank you for all good words I wound’t say anything to this topic as I the last one who can have an objective oppinion 🙂 But I would like to point to a minor thing — you can fill Matador reservoir up t 300 bar with no consern about the reseroir, the only point I recommend to fill it up to 220 bar is just because of the less air effetience of shooting at the pressure above 220 bar. That is the only point, nothing else.

I couldn’t agree with you more. You nailed it!!

I had a cricket. Really nice gun but I had to choose between it and my R3 .25 cal. I kept the R3. The cricket functioned flawlessly out the box. The R3 had issues with the reg and eventually needed a replacement. Fortunately, Mr. OG ( :8: ) hooked me up as well as Tony. Tony ordered a new reg to replace my broken reg. OG transplanted his reg from one of his R3s into my R3 in exchange for the one Tony was going to send me. I was able to shoot right away and really enjoy my gun. I had not had any issues with it since. I estimate I have over 2k shots since the transplant.

It seems like Crickets have less issues than the R3’s, so that may be something to consider when deciding. However, I like the looks and performance of the R3. I’m content with the single shot version. If Tony stocks his shop with replacement parts, then the R3 can be more appealing to some.

Edguns all the way. My two are proven shooters with well over 60k pellets between them on original Orings to boot without a single issue. That’s proven reliability. Most of you guys only have a few tins through yours.
The Cricket has price and working mag advantage,if you want a mag. Some of Eds new mags are having index issues and hopefully will be resolved. I’ve never had a single bolt action of anything fail so thats my preference and I can reload and hit dam quick.
Regulators are a tie it seems based on actual owners reported strings. Neither is “superior”. Both mine average appx 2.33fps SD and a 9fps Max spread over entire string with unsorted pellets.
The Edgun is more air efficient per shot mostly due to chamber distance from valve to pellet.
Shot count goes to Edgun in this regards due to efficiency per shot from the standard 200 bar fill start, but the Cricket fills to higher pressure so it gets to cheat a bit as long as you can fill it that high.
Accuracy is a reported toss up, both use excellent barrels. My 22 shot JSB 18s best between 880-900 fps.
My 25 shoots JSB 25s accurately up to 1000 fps.
Looks tie. Both are pups-nuff said:-). The exception is original FX stock. WTF??
Now here’s the big difference for me aside from single shot preference.
Cricket- mass produced. Many reports of poor quality control and corroded metals, failing Orings, missing parts.
As with anything mass produced/ assembled and cheaper, quality is sacrificed somewhere.
Owners not involved with us here at least. Several dealers avail but they aren’t truly responsible for product.
Edgun- not mass produced, owner has his hands on each gun.
Most recent issues with magazine version. Various small failures and few bad parts.
Owner directly involved in community and easy to email. Never an issue contacting or ordering things I wanted.
His guns are clearly his passion and he’s made a living out of it. Constantly evolving.
Both guns overall are great. But to me Edguns have character and soul because of Ed . I like that.

I have both but I prefer my cricket only because I have the piece of mind that if anything should happen and I need parts I can make a phone call to Steve at Wild West airgun and bam I have the parts….

Now the edgun isn’t far behind but take a look at allll the recent threads on the problems with new batch of edguns…and the Option for repair is shoot the gun or return it….tony has spare parts but not everything…and I’ve heard of people waiting more than a month for parts to get their rifle up and running….

Now that’s just my opinion when the rifles are up and running I see no difference in accuracy…they both shoot nice and straight and punch holes in thing….

Have owned both…still have the Crickets.
Now mine was a R3 so I cant tell you anything about the R3M magazine function but single shot just wasnt for me. Also I can crank my .25 Cricket upto 1000+fps with the kings and it still maintains its great accuracy also I give a slight edge to my Crickets in the trigger department. The ED didnt like going above 890fps with kings but at that speed was very accurate….but I didnt notice one being more accurate than the other . Both great AGs but in the end I picked a side 😀
