Cricket Sniping

I’ve been on a mission to quiet down my .22 STD Cricket. I’ve been shooting it at 700 fps with Neil’s shroud and 6 inch LDC. It is quiet with this setting but after awhile, you want to shoot the gun at it’s full capacity. I noticed with the 6 inch LDC shooting 880 fps, there’s still a great amount of muzzle blast. I even tried it with my 8 inch LDC and same thing. This past weekend, I’ve came up with different simple designs and finally completed the mod. I am now sniping from inside the house shooting 880 with no muzzle blast at all. Only thing I hear now is the hammer slap but until John or Ernest comes up with something to reduce that sound, the hammer slap can be loud as well. But bearable inside the house.

Still using Neil’s 6 inch LDC, I cut a 1 1/4 pvc tube 12 inches long. My biggest concern is the stability of the tube and the alignment. Luckily, Neil’s LDC slides right into the pvc tube perfectly and gives it the stability it needs. I actually had to put one layer of electrical tape at the front end and back end of the LDC so that it stays in securely. Also added a grub screw at the backend of the tube as a safety so that it doesn’t go flying off. At lowes I purchased rubber washers along with the aluminum ones. I could use the aluminum ones only but I figured the rubber piece will lessen the sound of the air impact. I epoxied the rubber to the aluminum washers. Also purchased 3/4 pipe foam to use as spacers between the washers. In total I have 5 washers inside on top of the baffles in Neil’s LDC. I am very happy with the outcome and the results of the sound. The additional 6 inches was what this gun needed.

I know it made the gun longer but shooting in the house on a caldwell deadshot, it doesn’t matter. There’s no clipping and still very accurate.

He could very well be. I suggest an extensive study around the subject. It should include a part where the object is being studied in captivity , in a cage of a sort , so we can get answers to these burning questions …

Yo Darwin – they do . Wingey lives there ! It´ll take those Birds and other weird Creatures a while to adapt but there is a Predator lurking on that remote Island. :butkick:
Poisonous ? I don´t know about that (except he could probably kill most Mammals known to Man with a shear amount of Caffeine he consumes) nor do i know about his swimming prowess but he´s a menace nevertheless. Yes, he is.

Yeah creatures like him messed up evolution. But we still need him around to clean up the other mess his kind did with the rabbits!
So I think Wingey is neutral from evolutionary point of view.

We are very lucky here in NZ that there is nothing “out there” that can kill us.. no snakes, gators, poisonous spiders etc at all so there is no worries strolling around in bare feet or swimming in the lakes or rivers..

You guys are next door neighbours to Australia! Everything that bites there will kill you. What’s the deal?

Thank you for the tip, Edguerra. We haven’t got those stores here localy, have found other pvc for higher heat bud they even got bigger wall thickness .Maybe here in the metric side of the world pvc pipes are a little different 🙂

You need to use 200 class PVC (200 psi working pressure). I recently measured the I.D. of the pipe that I have and noticed it is too small also so I’ll see if I can find some tomorrow locally. If you have a lowes nearby you can check to see if they have this “Charlotte Pipe 1-In x 10-Ft 200 Psi Sdr 21 Pvc Pressure Pipe”. It shows they have it locally here so it may work for you.

Great topic Donny,
I tried the mod out today, got some pvc tubes 32mm x 1.8 mm so 28.4 mm inside diameter ,only size I find here , went to 3 different stores… the shroud is 30 mm so had to file of 1.6 mm at the beginning of the shroud with the dremel, the dremel only goes in for a couple of cm’s so the long cut also functions to let the pvc tube expand a little otherwise the oem shroud wouldn’t fit at all in the tube.

How you guys fit 30 mm into 1 inch tube (25.4mm) is a mistery to me :suprisedn: :biggrinn:

after a lot of filing and fitting put some haircurlers and felt in , glued a washer at the front and did some test shooting and it is really quiet , not shure about accuracy yet

Donny, if you’ll send me one i’ll test it and post my opinion …..

thats a very cool mod Donny!!! now find sometime to hit home depot 😎

I see, it maybe safe to say I can remove another inch off of mines, and the shorter with softer is the better (that is what she said you know) !

Thanks a bunch Donny !

Just like yours around 880 fps. As for the matador, I am going to set it at 900.

Hay, Donny what speed is your 22 cal Cricket velocity (fps) set @ using JSB 18 g ?

Yes it’s extremely quiet dry firing. I am constantly dry firing when I test out my insert or end caps.

Still amazes me. Next up will be the El Matador .255

I shot it without a pellet and it scared the shits out of me !

It sound like the gun didn’t let enough air out and the pellet is now stuck in the barrel, but no.

With no pellet (dry fire) it’s very extremely quiet not even a hammer or spring sound, slight thump (a blank fart) ! :winkn:

Yes agreed with you 100 % they think I’m blow gunning ! 😆

I’m a Blow gunner shooting a Cold Steal .625″ big bore and the “Donny Shroud” on my Cricket 22 cal going 880 fps is a bit more quieter than.

It’s by far the most quietest PCP I have now, second is my Condor SS 25 cal @ 920 fps which has the frame ported and a TAG 6″ shroud on it. Thinking my FX Revo 22 cal needs a bit of added silencing also.

GREAT post DONNY the BEST mod I ever done so far the cheapest (THE GREATEST RETURN PER $) !!! :2cents:
I’m extremely HAPPY, I LOVE IT, INGENIOUS !!!!

Aloha ~ GKU

Have you tried shooting it outside yet? Big difference 🙂 Neighbors seriously won’t know you’re shooting.

quote GKU:

I got it from Lowes, hope you can see the UPC code. It’s the same diameter as the OD of the 1″ PVC pipe. It’s used to plug the end of a joint coupling. As you can see it’s has a lot of material and I ended up with about 2/3rds of it or 1/8″ thickness with the front being 1/4″ thick after sanding off.

It can be made with a drill if one doesn’t have a drill press. Clamp down the sanding block and run drill on it and keep it moving and let it get too hot. It took me about 30 minutes to make one cap.

~ GKU, again an ingenious device !!!! :8:
