Cricket Sniping
I’ve been on a mission to quiet down my .22 STD Cricket. I’ve been shooting it at 700 fps with Neil’s shroud and 6 inch LDC. It is quiet with this setting but after awhile, you want to shoot the gun at it’s full capacity. I noticed with the 6 inch LDC shooting 880 fps, there’s still a great amount of muzzle blast. I even tried it with my 8 inch LDC and same thing. This past weekend, I’ve came up with different simple designs and finally completed the mod. I am now sniping from inside the house shooting 880 with no muzzle blast at all. Only thing I hear now is the hammer slap but until John or Ernest comes up with something to reduce that sound, the hammer slap can be loud as well. But bearable inside the house.
Still using Neil’s 6 inch LDC, I cut a 1 1/4 pvc tube 12 inches long. My biggest concern is the stability of the tube and the alignment. Luckily, Neil’s LDC slides right into the pvc tube perfectly and gives it the stability it needs. I actually had to put one layer of electrical tape at the front end and back end of the LDC so that it stays in securely. Also added a grub screw at the backend of the tube as a safety so that it doesn’t go flying off. At lowes I purchased rubber washers along with the aluminum ones. I could use the aluminum ones only but I figured the rubber piece will lessen the sound of the air impact. I epoxied the rubber to the aluminum washers. Also purchased 3/4 pipe foam to use as spacers between the washers. In total I have 5 washers inside on top of the baffles in Neil’s LDC. I am very happy with the outcome and the results of the sound. The additional 6 inches was what this gun needed.
I know it made the gun longer but shooting in the house on a caldwell deadshot, it doesn’t matter. There’s no clipping and still very accurate.

This will only bring out the best in you Ernest. I can’t explain it but the hammer slap has gone down a lot and I am guessing because of the rubber sheet that I used. I am not exaggerating when I say this gun is shooting full power and mouse fart. Right now it extends 11 inches from air gauge, I am going to see if I cut it in half, it’ll be the same effectiveness. The 11 inches was just a starting point to see if the darn thing even works. I just tested accuracy outside at 20 yds and on target every time. No effect on POI.

Got one quieter, .177 shooting at 8fpe. the reg disk as fallow ()()()()()()(), using only 775psi and had to use a lighter spring at 1 5/8″ long to max out the reg, I can cock it with my pinky with easies. shooting dime size at 35y with 10.3g 615fps all you hear is an airsoft BB dropping 6′ of a wooden table, at 220 bar fill I’m over 300 shots no more then 12fps ES.
this is a back yard bug buster, this is my test platform BP, I test regulator, Barrel, firing valve, shroud, breech action, de pingers. the air tube was a long air tube use on the .25, got John to cut it down to compact size, love this setup don’t want to break it down—> but got an air soft barrel size 6.01mm coming to test on this rig. planning on shooting 0.40g+ BB.
Update, went to Ace Hardware and got a 1′ cap. Drilled hole and fits on pipe very tight without having to do anything more. I will drill a small screw in there just in case. This cap is perfect because it allows me to take it off and remove the inside if needed.
Good idea! I’ll have to stroll through the hardware store later to ses my options but that could be the best solution. Ernest suggested putting vent holes as well so I am sitting here staring at it to find the best places to put them.

I would not try. NZ had one of the toughest and the most successful conservation regulations against invasive species.

Coda, that list of NZ dangerous species made me laugh a lot… what a badly documented load of crap.. the only slightly poisonous spider we have here is the Katapo and its very rare and only lives on the coast.. I have looked all my life to find one but still never seen one. As for being dangerous.. if you were unlucky enough to some how get bit by this very shy little critter it would only leave a boil type sore that took a few weeks to heal.. the last person to have been bitten by one was nearly 100 years ago and it is practically a ghost story now.
The white tail (from Aussie) has been studied of recent and declared non venomous, the “slow healing sores” that it is often blamed for is actually an infection cause by a bacteria that lives in the soil in walks on.. I just got a bad rep in the media a few years back when little was known about this “hunting” spider.
As for the ocean, there is plenty of killers in there such as sharks but in NZs written history there is only a very small handful of people been killed by shark attacks.
That water snake is a tropical snake and on the odd occasion (maybe 5 accounts) washes up nearly dead on our northern beaches after a storm out at sea.. its venom can be nasty but its mouth is so small that the only place it could actually bite you is between the webbing of your fingers.. another non event.
All the spiny fish listed are no more toxic than a prick with a blunt nail.. painful but but unless it got infected there is no risk of death.
How do I know this? Im a spear fisherman and all of those fish/urchins/jelly fish spike and sting me almost every outing. There is little to no risk with all our “dangerous spices” unless you had some allergy an had an anaphylactic reaction.
Australia on the other hand have some serious killers.. not a place I ever want to live..
Damn Hoot, I thought you pulled that one out of your ass but you are correct sir. I had to google it. I always called these metal wire nets chicken wire, but the correct term is Hardware cloth.
“Chicken Wire”, made from the ligaments and tendons of dead chickens, is commonly used in the bee keeping industry to capture “drones”, which are then sold to the U.S. Government for use in clandestine operations, commonly known as “Black Ops”, although to my knowledge many White people are also involved. Donny….that is not “Chicken Wire”. It is commonly called “Hardware Cloth”, and can be had in several different sized square holes, ranging down to as small as 1/4″.
“Chicken Wire”, made from the ligaments and tendons of dead chickens, is commonly used in the bee keeping industry to capture “drones”, which are then sold to the U.S. Government for use in clandestine operations, commonly known as “Black Ops”, although to my knowledge many White people are also involved.
