Q:

Dr. Steele’s Cricket finds a new owner this evening

Well, I’m gonna give that favorite little Edgun shorty some compact company as I got a hold of Steve again this evening and was able to purchase a special little used Cricket Compact Skeleton Stock in .22 just as I was wanting.

I feel fortunate in that this is a used gun with some nice tuning work from Ernest and has both the original and a N.C. moderator with an optional extension and was the gun previously belonging to the late Dr. Steel here on our forum. I have to say I am a bit sentimental and would much rather have this gun than a new one, it will always seem special to me. Rest in Peace brother, your gun will be in caring hands, enjoyed as you would have wanted and well kept in pristine condition and I will be honored to look after it for you.

Steve is as nice and good to deal with as everyone says !! Two thumbs up !!

Doug D.

The Search function doesn’t seem to work but I was able to find the thread where Shanu went after the Leupold scope. On my baby Cricket .177 I want the parallax focus down to 10 yards and I know Leupold will do that for me. 10-100 yards would be perfect for the .177 or even .22.

About $800 but optics rival the best.

Leupold 4.5-14×50 Side focus 30mm 16.5 oz. Varmint Hunters Reticle.

Ordered the VX-3L 4.5-14×50 scope customized with parallax focus 25-150 yards, M1 turrets, and varmint hunter reticle. Pretty much a custom Mark 4, but lighter. All under 19oz. Should be near perfect for a compact .22 cricket! I’m having Earnest tune the cricket to 25-28 fpe so I can get 40 shots. Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

It´s all good except for one thing : 14x doesn´t cut it for me much beyond 50 meters and for BR that would only work out to 35 meters or so. For hunting and plinking that scope should be about as good as they come.

I have done some more looking today and I like a lot about he IOR and Delta’s but I am starting to think, that ugly “C” word is going to come into play. I am just not god at ” Compromise ” . It seems either features or weight has to give a little.

Yep. It´s weird there are no lightweight, compact scopes with SF and good reticule to be found. You always have to compromise on some of those features. Damn it – Hawke has build its entire line of scopes around the AG industry. They should know by now : Bullpup´s are coming !! Scope needed .. :angrymob:

Did you look at Shanu’s Leupold? Very light yet most of the cool features including side focus.

Ville,

You are right, there is no easy to find perfect scope that is small, lite weight, high power, nice quality. I have read and shopped all evening for options, I cruised the Leupold offerings, considered the Swarovski Z5 for it’s nice weight- vs specs looked at March and gaged on the price. Looked at Aeon, Hawke Nikon, Falcon. Going to look at the IOR and Delta you mention often, tomorrow when the cross eyed thing goes away.

Both Delta and IOR are very nice – the IOR being superb with German (Zeiss, Schott) glass. Delta is Japanese. No lightweighters though …
Delta has a 6-24x with AO but for now only with common Mil-Dot reticle. That one weighs under 18 oz though. There’s also Clearidge with good glass/light weight but with MD reticle.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2. This POS iPhone sucks though …

I too doubt that he got to shoot it. He had just gotten his new compressor and was playing wtih it.

We sent a couple of PM’s back and forth, and then he was gone. Was it a Heart attack, or somthing else? Kinda enjoyed talking with him. 🙁

Brother Knife, whatever ,,, or (however i really would like folks here pretend their real names not nick names, in order to call the real actual names of my brothers )

My passed brother Shanu was gone because of a heart attack, this is what i got from his wife when i asked her for the reason, peace be upon his soul

I am compelled to let everyone know that I found out this evening that Shanu was in the process of ordering two cheek pieces for this gun in order to aquire and ship one of them to Trygve (Zocoloco) in Norway. After finding out about this unfinished business this evening and wanting to help I called Steve to get the part myself and finish the job for Shanu, and upon asking for one, Steve at Wild West Air Guns, to his gracious credit, would have nothing to do with it and insisted sending one direct to Trygve him self. This is really a pretty special community filled with good people and Steve is without doubt one of them.

Zocoloco, Pm. sent requesting your address information for Steve.

Congratulations Ride !

I feel confident Shanu would have appreciated the new home of his little gem. He was an exeptional member of this community of ours, – and extremely helpful and friendly to all of us who had the pleasure of communicating with him….

His toy deserves the best, – and you seem to be just the right person for the challenge……..

Cheers
Trygve :biggrinn:

PS: I have sent you a pm on a related subject…….

I talked with Steve at WWAG this eve. and he looked at some dates and confirmed that Shanu passed before the gun arrived so Ernst was the last one to shoot it. Shipping out this evening.

a Shame. I liked the Guy!

He never shot it. It went straight from WWAG to Ernest for tuning. I had quite excessive e-mail correspondence with Shanu regarding several things like the Delta deal, our Sidewheel order and whatnot. Like said the next day he was just gone …

I too doubt that he got to shoot it. He had just gotten his new compressor and was playing with it.

The gun is shipping today,i wont see it until next week. Give me time to thinkbon this scope deal in the meantime.
