Q:

How is this smooth edge created ?

In the attached image of a tank adapter I can understand the 4 centerlines (red, green, blue, yellow) needed to turn this piece. What I don’t understand is the purple circled area. How is that shaped so nicely to blend with all the other curved surfaces ?

Who sells good quality gauges ?

I am familiar with the “Tits Up” on the last cut thing 🙄

6 hours to make it

One second to ruin it 😀

It’s alot of work and it can go tit’s up on the last cut

I would think that one could avoid lathe threading by tap and die.

I didn’t mean to offend any machinist here, just trying to get the piece into production at a reasonable price point (think volume sales). Surely this has to be “hobby” priced vs. “make a living making this piece” priced (or somewhere in between).

I would pay $100, for it with fitting and gauge.

that works for the 90 degree offset, but what about the more elongated offset? i just can’t see how you would get a drill bit in there without boogering the inside of the collar.

When the port for the gauge is drilled that must open it up. Plus it can be ported conventionally with a rotary tool and burr.

ok, first off i’m no machinist. but, the thing that bothers me the most is how do you get the hole drilled through the main part of the body? from the looks of it , the hole has to be extremely small in dia. so as not to weaken the integrity of the walls at the ” elbow”. and if that is the case, how much does it restrict the air flow? like i said, i’m not a machinist and this may sound like a stupid question, but, i’d really like to know.
if this can be answered to some degree of satisfaction, then i might be interested in one in the near future, as long as the price can be kept within reason, say 100-200$.

How much would you guys be willing to pay for one if I was to make some? My lathe is going to be here next week some time and will be able to make them. I was going to make something similar for my reg.

Sell it to us Baz buddy!!!!! 😆

The more I looked the more I was impressed. 😉

Whatever happened to MM123522 and McMike, they were making some incredible stuff too!!!

Baz and his minions over there have made some top shelf stuff.

Gip, the part isn’t available here and we have been told it won’t ever be sent here as well.

You are correct in what you state but if the original owner is unwilling to make the part for those who want it then I don’t see what the original owner could be upset about. Sure it may sound a but harsh but wtf if the original designer is being stingy with an excellent design.

If I design the best stock and everyone wants it but I don’t want to produce it I have basically relinquished my rights to bitch unless I go and patent the design to protect it.

If the original designer is producing this design and selling in it the USA then I absolutely agree, not cool.

Asking permission is also a good “noble” way to go about it, perhaps even some palm greasing as well. 😉

I also believe that two versions of this particular design have been made, one in the UK and the other in Argentina… And still neither want to sell it in the USA… And there have been lots of requests for it to be made and sold.

Baz has also been very generous with images and measurements.

Baz, please correct me if I am wrong! 😉

Here is the one from Argentina:

It even looks like the original ETac was made by Baz way back when the TOG was around…

Ok – enlighten me. How much for material and how much labor time.

Maybe I can convince myself to go buy a Grizzly Mini Lathe and tooling for $800 and start making these. I don’t know, Maybe I’m dreaming… 😯

Are you a machinist? Doesn’t sound like it.

If you imagine you’re going to just buy a lathe and some tooling and start cranking these out the next day, then yeah…you ARE dreaming. 🙄

Obviously someone IS making these….where did the picture come from??? Is it Baz’s?? Not nice to copy the work of others (in particular with profit in mind)….nor is it right. 👿

It IS a nice piece though. 😎

The material will only cost you about $4/lb in T6061 or better…

I’d hold out for a real mill. The G0602 lathe or better and a G0704 mill or better. The combo units lack in both departments unless you spend twice what the G0602 & G0704 would be together…

Then you would have to learn to thread on the lathe… Which is a whole other ball game. 😉

I see a minimum of 15 procedures to make this part.
