Q:

How is this smooth edge created ?

In the attached image of a tank adapter I can understand the 4 centerlines (red, green, blue, yellow) needed to turn this piece. What I don’t understand is the purple circled area. How is that shaped so nicely to blend with all the other curved surfaces ?

no maybe the yellow eather way a mill would be so much easer

oh and how i see it if u put it in a 4 jaw wouldnt u use the green line and put a center in the tail stock so u can clamp it right and make it center becace therses now reason to have it off ceter.

yeah i have one and that just not how id do it id make a quick jig/mounts out of plastic (then thery would all be the same) and hold it in the vice of my mill and run a pass over it way faster then chuvkinig in in a 4 jaw . im not saying it wont work or your wrong im just saying how i would do it. be case the question was how was this smoth edge created?. and the only person that can say how that was done was who made it. if u made it i bow down. if not then sit down lol j/k and a 5 axis would do it withe the right programing then u can mass perduce them .

Do you know how a 4 jaw chuck works? The piece is chucked up off set to one side of the chuck. Center would be your yellow line. I doubt it was a 5 axis mill. Would have been easy to make if it was and multiples could have been made and sold.

sorry the mill wound be my choice

it has to be a final mill cut after everthing was done i mee i guess a lathe but that would be my choice to make that cut.

Where is the centerline for the “off set” you speak of ?

It was done when cutting that side. The piece was taper cut. Started a piece of round stock and put in a 4 jaw chuck with the center off set. One side was done and then flipped for the other. Then the flats were cut on a mill.

a 5 axis mill would be my guess or where all the straight lines are it the final cut its easy to do with the right machine bit and speed. i could be worng but some one else might have a better i dea
