Q:

Jerry’s slugs

Hi all,

I got Jerry’s slugs last week and could not wait to try them. They made my 43’s look like babies. Today I shot the 6 ring slugs at a 1 and a half inch board at 24 yards, and it went through and hit the concrete block behind and mushroomed to 3/4 of an inch. I’m not sure about anyone else, but it seemed that my condor sounded a lot quieter. Maybe because of the size of the slug. The 43’s hit hard a make a huge impact when they hit. I have not used a chrony yet and I’m curious to see the velocity. They did shoot bullseye every shot at 24 yards. If anyone has any info on there chrony and experience please do tell.

I’ll be looking forward to the report. We designed and started making these slugs years ago because folks wanted heavies to max out their power and supposedly hunt with them. Sadly, we never see any hunting posts!

Talon Tunes SS with Condor high flow valve and 17 3/8″ .25 barrel from Walt. I got two small pigs, about 25 pounders, last month, one with a Barracuda and the other with a pointed Eun Jin. Range was just 15 yards, brain shots taken from a tree stand. Dropped ’em both instantly. Tony’s shroud was so quiet that one stuck around after his mate went down, which was a fatal mistake.

Today in the mail I got a package from Jerry: 100 X 6 ring slugs, 75 X 7 ring slugs, and 25 X 9 ring slugs. I’m also investigating having my valve modified. I’m going out after their big brothers and sisters, and will give you guys the report. Norgeiron

80 the pig skull looked like it just got chopped off. The only thing missing was the fur. It still had the brains eyes blood etc. pretty gorey stuff. On youtube it’s “Myth buster test ” by Roy Weeks. Check it out it’s pretty cool how he set it up and showed the shots at 50 and 80 yards.

Nomatic Pirate on the Yellow has killed a truck load of pigs with an air gun. He has used 22 and 25 and 45 on many of them. If your on the yellow he would be the one to ask.

Having said that, one of Jerry’s slugs would have no trouble penetrating a living hog skull if hit at the correct spot and angle.

I think I saw that video awhile back. If it’s the one I’m thinking of that would not be a good criteria to go by as the skull bones get brittle after they have been sitting awhile. I do have many hog skulls that my hunting buddy gives me and depending on how they where “cured” can also effect how brittle they become. I would imagine that a real live one with fur, fat, mussle and live bone would be much tuffer than a mere skull.

I just got off youtube and saw a video by Roy Weeks. He was penetrating a pig skull at 80 yards with his Benji 25. I think his rifle is producing like 70 fpe of energy, and it was going through like butter. So I know that now in confidence if I place my shot right i’ll drop one easily. Any Condor hunters want to comment?

Perhaps some of the Hunters will chime in, and I fear if they do it will open up that “old can of worms” on “ethical” hunting…but If I was to hunt with these larger .25 slugs—ones producing sufficient energy—I would want to know that they are consistantly accurate at longer ranges. I have not done enough tests at 100 yards to speak on it, but I know a few of the men here have….

Yes 114fpe hits real hard! I have a cousin and he has 22lr and my Condor hits as hard if not harder. Except my gun makes s bigger hole in the target, usually wood backstop. I wanted the heavier slugs to hang with the boys and their 22 lr’s. So far so good. I havent shot out too far yet bet I want to be able to take out coyote, bobcat, pig, and turkeys out to 100 yards with good shot placement. I know I can my make my bird fly so hopefully the slugs slam the target that far.

No, I’m not much of a hunter. Mostly plinking. I did manage to kill a 2×4 (I think it was out 40 yards) and a 7 ring tore right through it like butter. 114fpe is impressive. I’m sure my rig can get some more energy if I wanted it to. It shoots the kings most accurately. Soon I will do some more 100 yard testing now that it has better glass on it.

Nice 80. Im getting 114 fpe with the 6 ring slugs at 905 fps. I wonder what I’ll get with the 7’s. Have you hunted with them?

Here’s an old post of mine with some good info. These 7 rings could do better than the 3″ group I shot @ 100. I was only using a 14x scope. I’m sure some of the fellas have achieved better 100 yard groups with them…Mine where leaving the muzzle at 100fpe. Can’t wait to get back out and do some more testing. It has been far too long…

not yet but looking forward to it.

Have you tried the 7s yet?

Nice! Tony is a magic man with those things!

Yes it was! I hope the 7s fly as well…
