Q:

Jerry’s slugs

Hi all,

I got Jerry’s slugs last week and could not wait to try them. They made my 43’s look like babies. Today I shot the 6 ring slugs at a 1 and a half inch board at 24 yards, and it went through and hit the concrete block behind and mushroomed to 3/4 of an inch. I’m not sure about anyone else, but it seemed that my condor sounded a lot quieter. Maybe because of the size of the slug. The 43’s hit hard a make a huge impact when they hit. I have not used a chrony yet and I’m curious to see the velocity. They did shoot bullseye every shot at 24 yards. If anyone has any info on there chrony and experience please do tell.

I’m running a 100gr barrel guided hammer and a heavier hammer spring with Blod valve. I crank the wheel up to 12. I know if I forget and leave it on 0 after shooting reg tank it shoots eunjins around 860 fps. So I just preload it all the way. I’m going to do some testing this weekend with condor valves and see how much I can get out of one.

What is your power wheel set at for that kind of power? That is awesome! My condor on max shoots the 62 grain slugs at 905 fps for 114 fpe. /quote]

You must not have a stock Condor. Tell me more about your setup ?

I would love to get your kind of power, what if any mods should I do. As for accuracy once your slugs are sighted in they shoot just as well if not better than the 43’s just with more bang! For medium sized game I would use the 43’s, but if it’s a coyote sized animal the slug is my choice. You don’t have to be super accurate with this kind of weight and power. Just hit the kill zone and the slug will do the rest. I’m happy with a 2″ group at 100 yards any day.

Dyotat100 – please tell us all the mods that you do to a stock Condor to get it ready to shot 6 rings well ?

Was doing some testing with Jerry’s slugs today.

9 ring 841 fps
7 ring 911 fps
6 ring 945 fps

All this with a .25 Blod valve. Put it in stock Condor tank to make sure etac was not staving it for air. Actually got better numbers out of etac but I was having stem seal problems and had to remake the acetal seal. When I was done I put it back in the etac and in the 53 ci tank. A member on here has shipped his gun to me and wants to shoot 6 ring slugs. I’m going to go to my friends house this weekend for some testing and see how good the slugs shoot at 50 to 65 yards.

Jerry – nothing against the slugs, as they fit a niche very well. But to say a pellet is bad regarding accuracy because it is shot at an unstable speed vs one that is shot at a stable speed, I just didn’t see that as comparable.

quote AirGunner1:

I question if that was a fair comparison, as the 43.2 gr EunJuns were flying close to the speed of sound and even close is in a zone of severely compressed air which would reduce accuracy.
If you reduced your power to 975 fps for the EunJuns and then also shot the 6 or 7 ring, that would be interesting accuracy comparison.

I don’t see what is unfair here. The heavy slugs are designed for maximum energy on target. It makes no sense to slow the EJs down as that would just yield an even greater power difference. Slowing down the slugs to where the EJs are in their best velocity would just defeat the point of buying custom slugs designed for max power. The fact that the slugs deliver more power more accurately from the same gun setup for power is exactly why the slugs got made.

Eunjun suck for accure at least in my gun and most guns. As far as i care there good for testing or setting up your gun for slugs.

Please tell me more. What don’t you ike about the EunJuns – not uniform in Size, Shape, Weight, Tip design ?

I see exactly double the group size at 50 yards with the 43gr Eun Jins as I do the 6 ring Surefires. About 1.5″ vs 3/4″.

And the accuracy was ???

I get the 43 gr to go 1060 fps and the 7 rings the best I’ve seen is 885 fps. Yesterday it was 871 fps after shooting a couple eunjins. Gearhead was there. Shot close to 20 shots over 1000 fps.

Iv seen the 7 ring do like 870 from daytons gun. I could be mistaken maybe he will cime in

I’d still want to be sure of the power output….
