Just got my 30 cal R3 long off of the UPS truck
Just tracked the UPS driver down. Last night, I was just like a kid on Christmas Eve, I couldn’t sleep a wink.
More pics and info to follow.

Nothing I have noticed but I’ll go shoot it again and hold my hand over the breech.
Yes bolt probe. Yes its pretty weak, but I can feel it with my cheek/eye. Nothing that I cant live with.
You guys have same?
I had mine shotting 905fps, but just tamed it down to 888fps.

Whew you guys scared me a bit. No breech wind here but I will watch that bolt handle. 😯
That’s not just a puff of air, damn near blew my right eyeball out 😀 but of course it was completely operator error. If you make that mistake once trust me you will never do it again. Immediately I looked at the bolt handle because I new that I neglected to rotate it down after pushing the probe forward. 242 shots later not one time did I neglect to close it and rotate the handle down. Fast and Danger to answer your question on velocity, I did not chrony it this time. In fact I was going to ask SECoda if he checked velocity. What I forgot to say before was that it is moderately back yard friendly. The hammer sound is louder than the .25 R3 and I can’t say for sure that it is quieter down range as compared to the .22. If I can separate the sound of the hammer by my ear it probably is a little quieter than the .22. I think SECoda believe it to be quieter than the .22 R3 down range.
I got 871 fps on a single shot at night but the Standards are slower. My son stood out at about 30 yards and 45 degrees and said it is quite bit quieter than my .25. There is too much hammer noise for the shooter to be able to tell.

You mean the bolt probe? Are both orings in place? Is it a weak or strong puff?
Any issues with puff of air into the eye from the fill probe?
How fast is yours set?
Cool – Very similar to my results with the STD .30. :8: Mt trigger is about 2.5 lbs but I am setting it down a 1 lb to start. Most of my good guns are at 12oz.
I got around to sighting in the .30 this morning. The distance to target was a lasered 25 yards. Once sighted in the .30 had relatively good accuracy. I’m comparing the accuracy of the .30 out of the box to my .22 R2.5 and .25 R3 out of their boxes. This could be like comparing apples and oranges but this is an Edgun and I have expectation due to my experience with Eds bullpups. The .22 R2.5 and the .25 R3 were consistent and amazingly accurate out of the box. After shooting 90 unlubed and unsorted pellets through the .30 my groups started looking excellent with an occasional shot while not very bad but a little different from the group. At 25 yards it could have been me and not necessarily a flyer. The trigger on the .30 for my liking was better out of the box than my R3 .25 caliber out of the box, however I still made an adjustment. I found my trigger to be at about 3 lbs after the take up before breaking. I adjusted the trigger to about 1 lb and feel very pleased with it now. With the lighter trigger and if I do my part I’m getting basically single hole groups from bench rest at 25 yards. I think allowing the barrel to lead a little will most definitely help out in the accuracy department and reducing the weight of the trigger pull have me satisfied with the .30 for now. Interesting side note is that I think the .30 lead up fairly quickly and may require a pull through more often than the .22 or the .25 calibers. I pulled the moderator and found no clipping. Once I’m able to stretch it out to 40 yards or more I think a better idea of its potential accuracy cal be realized. At 25 yards they seem to fly true. I put about 250 pellets through it this morning and so far I’m very pleased and have no issues regarding my .30 Long.
All new barrels are rough so hopefully it’s just that. I keep my fingers crossed !
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2. This POS iPhone sucks though …
Mine is shooting really well out to 40 yards so i guess you could be on to something. Let me know. Mine shows less even less chips the more i shoot it but i am not sure. I will push a lot more pellets and see if it clears up. 🙂
SECoda: While at work, I saw your post asking about clipping. When I took that pic, I just thought that it was “gunk” and didn’t think twice about it.
I got home tonight, pulled the baffle cover and found that the “gunk” was lead shavings!
After cleaning the lead shavings out, I used a 10X jewelers loupe and I couldn’t find any damage or rub marks in the baffle’s holes. I don’t think that I have a clipping issue; I think that the barrel is new, not broke in yet and is still kind of rough. I think that the new barrel is stripping lead shavings off of the pellets.
I gave the baffle a good cleaning and then shot 15 pellets thru the gun. When I removed the baffle cover, I had more lead shavings but, the accumulation was no where near what I had when the pic was taken. I don’t know how many shots Ed takes when he sets a Matador up, I doubt that the number is over 15-20 so, my barrel might already be smoothing out and breaking in.
I took a liquid bottle of White Out and used the application brush to paint the last 2 baffle holes and the baffle end cap hole white. Tomorrow, I will shoot another 20-30 shots, remove the baffle cover tube and see if any of the white paint is missing.
Tonight, the Matador had 150 bar in it when I shot the 15 shots, it ended up with 110-115 bar. I plan on filling the gun to 240 bar (3500 psi for all of the people that laugh at all of the metric bandwagon savages 😆 ) and see how many regulated shots I can get. I plan on setting the reg and HST so the Matador shoots the JSBs at 885 fps and I think that I might get 37-40 shots per fill. More would be better!
I haven’t put the 30 cal on the chrony yet. I planned on doing it today until I found that both of my tanks had less than 3000 psi in them. I will get the tanks filled in the morning and shoot the chrony string. I really hope that the gun shoots in the 920-930s so I will have an excuse to open the gun up.
I want to see what changes Ed has made on the 30 cal!
Ah, Yes, I see the casting lines. Sweet! 😀
Those chips look like packing popcorn fuzzies to me. 😆

Same here.
Not a issue with my eye but makes the gun loud.
