Q:

Leshiy Legalities

quote Parrots:

Pining for the leshiy even more after all these pictures and line won’t ship till next week 🙁

Gotta say, i do like the one’s from the Russian forum without the specific cal written on the gun, unlike the recent picture. Why put a single calibre on a multi barrel gun, any idea’s?

It’s probably required by some socialist country in Europe.
Pippo are these the same countries that make women apologize for being raped? Makes total sense :angrymob:

Keyser and don’t forget, in the UK you get a minimum mandatory imprisonement of five years that can go up to ten years if your air pistol is running on 7 ft/lbs.

Don’t know how many centuries they get for robbery but must be 700 or 800 years.

I believe all air pistol owners tune their guns to a max of 3-4 ft/lbs just to be sure to be on the safe side.

We need you to investigate the following !!
I have just read that the uk importer of the steyr 5 shot semi auto air pistol ,has just had his complete stock confiscated by the police as they think they are section 5 (prohibited) its a fluxed up country we live in

I tell you I prefer buying a .357 Magnum revolver going through all the hassle of paperwork instead of buying a so called “license free air weapon” that is somehow in a not well defined category because with all these measurements and unclear law interpretation you could discover yourself to unintenionally own an illegal weapon.

At least with the paperwork you have proof that everything is ok.

This thread should be a lesson to us all. Don’t let these control freaks in office. I love England after all she is the reason we have a constitution. I cannot believe what she has become.

My understanding is this whole BS 12 foot pound “sensible gun law” thing was enacted because BSA couldn’t compete in the high power airgun market.

Once again corruption in reveled through “public safety measures”.

Those are some Rich thugs

are there a lot of gangstas in uk using steyr pistol?

Pippo, as for a letter from the manufacturer to confirm it’s legal, it means squat. It is the responsibility of the owner to make sure the gun they have is legal.

Actually I was referring to a written reply from BASF to your written inquiry.

Lesley is Legal in the UK, so is the Verminator, pointless to keep going around in circles so will be my last post on the matter. I thought we had already finished this discussion, seems not.

Pippo, as for a letter from the manufacturer to confirm it’s legal, it means squat. It is the responsibility of the owner to make sure the gun they have is legal.

Let’s move on, we have all said what we had to. Now it’s the responsibility of the people considering buying these to do their due diligence before buying any gun, not take anything any stranger on a forum says as gospel.

If you read the wording properly regarding the air pistol, the length and barrel length only come into force if its over 6ft lbs of energy… read and understand the last few words..WITH A MUZZLE ENERGY…..IT MEANS IF YOU HAVE AN AIR PISTOL WITH A BARREL LESS THAN 30 CM OVER 6FT LBS ITS PROHIBITED..

IT MEANS IF YOU HAVE AN AIR PISTOL UNDER 60CM IN LENGTH BUT OVER 6FT LBS ITS PROHIBITED..
THE DEFINING WORD IS…WITH

. Any air pistol which either has a barrel less than 30cm in length or is less than 60cm in length overall, with a muzzle energy in excess of 6 foot lbs is a prohibited firearm.
So according to pippo even.our old webley air pistols are illegal
!!!

Scirocco,

or I don’t understand your post or you got me wrong.

What I’ve posted a few posts above is an extract of your UK law saying concerning air weapons:

Any air pistol which either has a barrel less than 30cm in length or is less than 60cm in length overall, with a muzzle energy in excess of 6 foot lbs is a prohibited firearm.

I believe it says exactly what you’re saying.

Pippo i believe you are missing the point,an.air rifle under 12 ftlbs doesnt need to be 60 cm or longer ,if its over 12 ft lbs and on fac it needs to exceed to 60 cm.
And then.it will also have to have the minimum barrel length, you can.put an air pistol action into ,lets say a bullpup stock and call it an air rifle,, and then increase power above the 6ft lbs and below 12 ft lbs, if its designed as an air pistol ,legally it will.always stay as an air pistol, overall length of firearms measured in the uk,is not in a straight line, but from end of muzzle to the toe (heel, bottom of the stock) ,have a read up on long barreled pistols(powder burner)

OK guys, I’ve tried.

You certainly know the UK gun law better than me.

Regards.

And I would like once again clarify that I don’t say and pretend anything I would like only make people aware of possibly being illegal without knowing it.

This comes from the fact that in another country with a gun law similar to yours (Belgium) a few years back a shop was selling the Verminator without licenses and it turned out that the Verminator in its configuration needed a firearms license.

One thing is being prosecuted for not having a FAC another thing is being prosecuted for owning a PROHIBITED FIREARM (with a mandatory imprisonement) but finally you do like you think it is best for you.

The only last word I would like to add to this is “unbelievable“, every sound advise coming from my side is always seen as an attack!

Cheers

Update!!!

Sorry actually my information above was not accurate.

It turned out that to buy a Verminator actually they didn’t need a FAC but something above a FAC, an M4 which is a special authorisation.

Just to make an example, with a FAC they can buy a M700 Remington in .308 but to buy a H&K MR308 in .308 (semi-auto) they need a M4.

Now is a Verminator more dangerous than a M700 .308? I don’t think so but to buy a Verminator (airgun) they need a special authorisation according to their law.

It is completely unlogic IMHO but it is what it is.

Cheers

I did a little research but couldn’t find anything explaining explicitly what makes a pistol a pistol :biggrinn: so I think they make their evaluation purely based on the length of the barrel and the overall length of the weapon.

What is a bit more worrying in my opinion is that I couldn’t find anything saying how to determine the legal length of a weapon (more specifically a weapon with a foldable stock).

I’ve discussed this with a friend of mine who is a lawyer and he told me you better ask the question if the Leshiy is legal in writing and not to risk your safety purely on a phone call for which you don’t have any proof (and that anyway doesn’t count anything from a legal point of view).

There is the law and there is the interpretation of the law and the interpretation can change over time (while the law staying the same).

Sorry if this sounds like “parental advice” but this is how I would reply to a fellow shooter asking me for an advice on this matter.

:2cents:

Congrats for the collection and sorry if I pushed you to make that phone call to stay safe.

Thank you, it’s an old pic and nothing to be sorry for, something i was already aware of, but no harm in clarifying again.
