Q:

Meet the Taipan Mutant….(updated)

.22 cal multi shot.

Heres the whole family…. :8: :8: :8:
yeh the baby is only 22.75″ long….

These don’t discriminate… left or right. Just flip the linkage over and away you go. (this is a pic of the Taipan 2 but they are basically the same, Predesessor of the mutant)

Pretty sweet trigger if i might add…

I will have more info to follow in the coming days…. I figure i would at least throw some pics up …. and get this ball rolling.

They made in Ukraine…..

and now they are available in the US…..

The manufacture claims….

60 shots at 34 FPE…. 250 bar fill .22 cal.

They use CZ barrels…

also avail in .17 cal.

I filled one up tonight to 200 bar and loaded a magazine with jsb 18’s …. it shot 943-947 the whole 12 shots

These come with a soft case. 2 12 round mags.( they fit the Pred’s and other long pellets) a single shot tray, fill probe, orings and tools to adjust the Hammer spring. and to remove the baffles from the shroud….

Tommarow i will take some more pictures and start shooting these…

Mighty impressive! 🙂

Thanks for you personal comments, thanks for the part list, but little out dated, different mag, 4 cap screw on top of breech, 2 set screw for the barrel, valve spring retainer different, no details about the reg rotor and oring–see photo

Yes the stock is the least to be noted of all the BP, I started to sand the stock and rip off the butt pad, going to put a rubbery coating on the stock and put an adjustable butt pad.

I see no burrs or sharp edge in the transfer port on mine, maybe they have listened. I see no issue with the size of the TP the pellet head do not dip in the TP to cause damage, and my ES are within 6-8fpe per fill from 45 to 50 shoots 210b and the shot count is higher then the cricket Std .22 with the same FPE even though the mutant has a smaller AT.

Even though the reg is set at 135-150B — it seem to shot down to 120b like it was set at 120b then drop off fast. I tried setting the reg below 120b but it wasn’t consistent and wasteful in air usage. One thing I like about the reg is how consistent the reg is when lowering the speed to 400, 500, 600, 700 and 800fps you do this with the cricket and the edgun they will always shoot way to slow the next morning when firing the 1st 3 shot then they level off. best also is the HSTA there is no pre-load on the hammer spring—none! not like the other 2, so that means you can lower the speed down to zero and up again to max 940FPS + with 18g and when you have the speed set you can tighten down on the delrin seated set screw on the side of the action–you do that on the edgun you will damage the threads on the HSTA—heck the cricket don’t even have one–and you know they back out.

I haven’t seen a R3M mag index properly 100% mod or no mods its the nature of the best—-at most you have to find that perfect torque on the cocking bolt to index the mag—-at least when its full of lead and when you get down to half empty that idea goes to shit and the cocking is the roughest of them all —-know lets don’t forget about that cricket that’s another bitch with a weak elbow–I mean soft finger metal that will affect the index/over and under shoot the rotation. Now the Mutant Mag index IS the real shit–just watch the video.

Now lets talk about the trigger, the edgun is about the worst one, you will never get a light trigger without the gravity affecting the shear engagement—sure nice trigger at horizontal but when you cock that baby when muzzle pointing up or down its another feeling, and whats up with this no 1st stage travel adjustment—they made me put another adjustment screw so they can shorten the travel –go figure! and whats up with this trigger rail–only one screw holding it at the rear and its so flimsy it flex in the middle when you push on it—and when you over tighten the stock it affect the shear engagement. don’t forget about those cheap and loose turn buckles on the end of the trigger rods on the cricket!

the valve spring retainer on the mutant has a snap ring to prevent it from backing out, you know the cricket will back out unless you dick with it, the edgun has none—its not even adjustable and wish it was.

The mutant Regulator has a metal pre filter inlet—cricket / edgun none.

The Mutant fill check valve and oring are over 2 times as large, and you know the edgun and cricket use the same screw and oring size and you seen all the post when they leak.

Mutant has great safety Edgun and cricket —– none

Can you shift the cocking lever right to left on Edgun and cricket—-no

Cricket has the worst machined Air tube–look at the oring sealing surface–not even smooth–no wander I had to lap a lot of them to stop them from leaking–they are the leakiest Air tube by far.

The Mutant Has the smoothest cocking side lever that rolls on brass bushing—Edgun and Cricket metal to metal cocking and you can feel it.

Mutant has a great dust cover that rotate with orings resistant, Cricket you have to fight that heavy spring and careful it might pinch you probe oring or your fingers—–just as worst in using an ear plug as a dust cover on the edgun like me.

The great parts is the accuracy is about the same–all depend on the shooter!

I can talk up or down on all 3 and still own 3—-3 different bitches that I cant live without!

Not sure what your talking bout shooter3…..

I found the machine work on all of these that came into the USA to be very good. He must of sharpened his tools after making yours.

mine shoots like a dream. I don’t care what the regulator is set at…. I’m getting 61 shots 881- 890 on a 220 bar fill. with 200cc’s of air… Good luck getting that with your edgun

Ohh… Hows that trigger on your edgun??? :rofl:

Btw How big is the Transfer port in your edgun? a 4.5 mm Tport in a .22 is not big at all.

Guys, I had Taipan in my hands and I was disappointed because of the poor machining of the air tube. It looked like the knife of the lathe was blunt. What is more the stock is really ugly and the rubber butt pad is glued in non elegant way – you can even see some white glue remainings in the picture submitted by Ernest. When I grabbed Matador I smiled because of the superb quality. However, when I grabbed Taipan I felt nothing. I would say that Cricket is machined better.

I also heard that the regulator is set crazy high to 150 bars. Tha last bad thing I heard is that the transfer port in the barrel is too big (the diameter is more than 4.5 mm) and it can have some rough and sharp edges. Taipan uses CZ200 barrels with enlarged transfer port.

I do not claim that Taipan is bad. The design seems to be robust but the overall impression is not positive at least for me.

I went to Czech to buy Taipan but because of these downsides I abandoned that idea.

Ernest, if you are interested in the schema of Taipan 2, here you go:

BTW, how much did you pay for Taipan?

Subscirbe! :popcorn: :11:

Great .. Thanks ernest..
Have you had chance to disassemble one yet . ..?

I was ask how low can the speed be adjusted with the HSTA.

You can adjust the speed down to zero with about 3 thread in the action remaining.

Here are measurement of the brass HSTA sticking of of the breech in relation to speed with 18.1g:

3.83mm = 394fps

2.78mm = 637fps

1.74mm = 816fps

.79mm = 944fps

0.0mm = 950fps

-1.03mm = 939fps

There is a spring guided on the end of the hammer that slide in the brass short spring guided on the HSTA so the spring stay straight while compressed. on the good note there is no hammer spring preload on the valve stem around 800fps and below —that’s why the speed can be adjusted down to ZERO

Here is the HSTA position when at 394fps

Please keep us posted.
Dave

Been turning Edgun, Cricket and FX for awhile now—-that said—-> I love the mutant the best, it’s has the best trigger and mag system. I still need to disassemble the air tube and see the craftsman ship. More later after I see the whole package.

Ernest how does the Mutant compare with the other bullpups?
Thanks
Dave

Wow!

So at the moment apparently Ukraine has the lead over Russia on the battlefield of bullpups!

Very impressed so far.

So the mutant is shooting at 940 ish out of the box .. To get it down to around the 880 fps mark can this be done by adjusting just the hst or would you have to adjust the reg ?

As you can see on the photo the brass HSTA positions set at 895fps with 18.1g. There is a set screw on the lift side to lock the setting. When HSTA is flush it’s shooting 940+

how to shift the cocking lever right to left Video!

Jamie .
Any pics of grouping at 70 yds ish

I will try to accommodate that this week…..
