Q:

more ACCURACY issues please help!!!

So I was finally able to get to the range again today at 100 and 50 yards.my accuracy with bags is less then I would expect from a 1700 dollar rifle 2300 dollar system. The rifle has over1400 rounds threw it and it has been tuned by me as some of you know. Just yesterday I reconfirmed my fps here is my results. not only is my accuracy not as good as i thought it would be but the shrould changes the poa by 2 1/2 inches at 100 yards it is not hit, i think it is either due to weight or harmonics of the barrel. i free floated the airtube before also so airtube changes should not be and issue. could my accuracy issues be due to the wrong fps for my gun? could i send my rifle back after this long of having it? should i send it back? i am at a loss with this rifle! i spent just about everything i got to own one and it does nothing that people claim they do!!!!! this gun has brought me more stress then three kids have ever, because at least i can spank children! can’t spank the cricket! well it wouldn’t do me any good!

Those are some great groups Chad! I think you’re set. Bear in mind that because it was windy, the wind influenced the point of impact of the pellets. I always say that the only way to test a gun’s accuracy is indoors. A 3 MPH crosswind even at 20 yards is going to let the pellet deviate (about three clicks of windage) from a straight path from the point of aim. At least that’s with my gun, which is set to 605 FPS shooting 16 gr pellets. Chairgun can show you this. By the looks of your groups, I’d wager you’d be getting quarter-sized groups at 50 yards or maybe even less…in an indoor setting and without wind.

When you shoot beyond 30 yards, you are testing the pellet and not the gun. Obviously, at such a distance the barrel no longer has any control of the pellet. It’s all up to the pellet from that point, maybe even less than that distance :thumb:

Yeah I am starting to figure that out! Wind is an airgunners worst night mare!

i am back!!!! today i went to the range and bench rest shot with and with out bags and at 50 yards and 100 yards here are my results.

i had two flyers i did not count in the size for obvious reasons the wind was again very unpredictable, it also varied alot down range compared to what was around me. it was around 10 mph average with some slowing and gusts of 15 to 20 mph crapy day to shoot but my results are awesome i think. if it was not windy i think i could get 1 inch groups at 100 yards. also this group was shot supported with bipod and a rear bag.

the top left was sighting in the rest on the top row was supported with two shooting bags. the middle row is supported with rear bag and bipod. the last row is supported with two shooting bags again. the poi seemed to shift down a little bit with the bipod but i did not experice this on the 100 yard range.

first i must say that i shot the 50 yrd range first then went to the 100 yrd range and the first two mags i shot gave me pretty bad results and at first i was thinking that nothing changed, but i kept in mind that the wind was really bad. untill i kept shooting and the wind slowed down and my groups started getting really tight, so i moved to a new target and that is what i got from the 100 yard target. so from my thoughts here it takes my gun about 6-7 mags before accuracy gets really good and the stock was way to tight and my shooting was not good for an airrifle.

is it normal to take about 72 shots after cleaning the barrel to get back to good accuracy? lubed pellets

i am going out of town in a couple of days but when i get back i will do more testing with the pellets that GKU gave me.

Thank you so much GKU!

Hi Chad,
I know you’ve try the upper limits with Kings.
You might want to check even lower speeds, it may not be right on the sweet spot yet.

Accuracy with Kings can range anywhere from 880-950 fps and with some rare cases high still.
Top fill your gun and reduce HST by -5 fps at a time CCW on the HST.
Shoot 3, 3 shot targets and dial down again another -5fps and repeat all the way down to 880 fps from 920 fps.
You will need to top fill twice.

Also my 22 cal is tuned to 880-890 fps and does 1/4″ ctc grouping at 50 yards.
It just hates anything lower and higher than that !!!
At 877 fps it will increase the grouping by as much as 1/2″ (opens up to .75 ” ctc) at 50 yards.

So you see the sweet spot can be hard to find sometimes and can be very deceiving with some barrel/pellet combo.

Hey that’s good news Chad! Glad you are making progress. One of the things I did that helped my paper shooting (and shooting from a ground blind) was to get a Caldwell dead-shot field pod. When properly adjusted, it’s about as close to bench shooting in the field you will ever get without a bench.

Good luck!
Charlie

here we go guys! the moment we all have been waiting for!

today i woke up and lightened my stock screws and did a trigger job which consisted of polishing all of the trigger components i still need to shorten second stage, i also filled my gun and tank and then off to the same spot of shooting prone in the field again.

photo bombed by my 4 year old daughter! she is so sneaky! :biggrinn:

sorry for all the writing i was measuring everything the left target is from today the top group all by it self is with out shroud. todays target was original pellets on the first 2 rows and GKU’s pellets on the last 2 rows my oringinal pellets are cleaned and lubed and GKU’s pellets are as they came so the fact that the groups are a little bigger is unfair to them. but i am thinking it is not the pellets. i must say that GKU’s pellets actually look more uniform when comparing the 2 and i would have never known this with out seeing them side by side. cant wait to clean and lube them and take them to the range.

here are my calculations of group size and furthest shot from POA averages.

today AVE. group size = .712″ (16 groups of three)
last week AVE. group size = .995″ (18 groups of three)
today AVE. furthest shot from POA = .727 (16 groups of three)
last week AVE. furthest shot form POA = .947 ( 18 groups of three)

so the trigger work and stock screws deffinantly helped to shrink my groups.

now i must say that the very first group i did at 50 yards, not included in these averages, was at the range with a very sturdy sand bag and bench rested. i started thinking about this today when i was shooting. these averages are prone in a grass field with an unstable bag (my back pack folded up) and a little more wind then the range. i am starting to feel alot better about my group sizes because yes these are not great groups for benchrest shooting and that is because i am not benchrest shooting! i am starting to think that the issue was the stock screw and me as a shooter because i was shooting the gun as i would a powder burner (holding the gun tight). i have sense then fixed the trigger grittiness, stock screws to tight and did some reaserch on what i was doing wrong as an airgun shooter now :biggrinn:

i am most deffinantly going to make it back to the range soon and retest at the 50 and 100 yard ranges with my new “upgrades” and knowledge. and will report back!

I got the pellets! And the HST! Thank you gku! More testing! :biggrinn:

Well that might be an issue! :biggrinn: because I tighten my stock screws pretty tight :confusedn:

It was reason why I asked about stock screw(s)… Each cricket has over tighten screws 🙁

Thank you again!

I just checked, on my Wheeler it measured only 5 in/lbs.

~ GKU

On PCP Airguns you don’t need to they don’t recoil as hard like on fire arms.

Even the shooting of is a bit more sensitive too on the Airgun.

no, you don’t need to if you Free Floated the AT just don’t make it to tight.

~ GKU

so should I loosen my screws? with a free floated AT?
