more ACCURACY issues please help!!!
So I was finally able to get to the range again today at 100 and 50 yards.my accuracy with bags is less then I would expect from a 1700 dollar rifle 2300 dollar system. The rifle has over1400 rounds threw it and it has been tuned by me as some of you know. Just yesterday I reconfirmed my fps here is my results. not only is my accuracy not as good as i thought it would be but the shrould changes the poa by 2 1/2 inches at 100 yards it is not hit, i think it is either due to weight or harmonics of the barrel. i free floated the airtube before also so airtube changes should not be and issue. could my accuracy issues be due to the wrong fps for my gun? could i send my rifle back after this long of having it? should i send it back? i am at a loss with this rifle! i spent just about everything i got to own one and it does nothing that people claim they do!!!!! this gun has brought me more stress then three kids have ever, because at least i can spank children! can’t spank the cricket! well it wouldn’t do me any good!

You might also want to check your pellets – JSB’s are good – that’s my preferred projectile for my ag’s but Crossmans are what I plink and they are a dirty lot. I have to reset everything after shooting with those. But usually at 50yds I can hit what it points at .25 or .22 and with good accuracy. Also what is your zero 15, 25, 100?
For the range you are shooting, and I trust you know your range well, a slight breeze even grasshoppers wings beating nearby, will move your POI. Your shot strings look very good – much much better than mine.
Keep at it.
1) I clean my pellets with hot water, dish soap, more yot water, blow dryer, then lube with mac1 sauce.
2) my zero is 100 yards, I do 100 becuse this allows me to use all of my mil dots.
3) its an out door range but yesterday was not that windy. And the 50 yd range buffers the wind a lot.
> rebuilt the regulator (and all that implies)
> chamfered the breech end of the barrel
> lapped and polished the inside of the barrel
> replaced all the o-rings with some magic o-ring material
> different hammer spring and aluminum screw
But the most important thing he did was drilled tiny holes in the shroud because the internal baffles were creating turbulence and moving the pellet around. In addition, we slowed the speed to about 875 fps because I am interested in accuracy, not speed or power (875 fps in a .25 is pretty powerful anyway). We even bored the end of the shroud a bit more but not at the expense of added noise. I also weigh my pellets and keep them separated by .1 of a grain, and can now shoot .25 in groups at 40 yards (5 shots). For fun, I shoot the tops off dandelions at distances out to 80 yards and I am amazed at how accurate this thing is now.
I find the best accuracy is between 180 bar and 220 bar – about 28 shots. Also, I have not cleaned it in 4 months or about 750 pellets.
Hope this helps a bit. Let me know if you want to see pics of my shroud.
I have one of donnys shrouds it does not seem to be the shroud and I have tuned my gun with the help of ernest, GKU, dman, and many others.
My Cricket shot like a laser out of the box and emitted a sharp, high-pitched “tink” sound; however, I wanted increased shot count. So, I tuned it to shoot at the velocity I am currently getting, which is 610 FPS. In doing so, I swapped the high-power spring for the shorter, low-powered one that also came with the gun. After adjusting the regulator and valve spring, I noticed that the shots sounded sloppy and the gun was shooting lots of fliers. After adjusting the hammer spring to the correct tension, and in in the end yielding to the desired velocity, I was able to achieve pellet-on-pellet accuracy.
1) my hammer is basically all the way in
2) I always bring my tools shooting and have checked and rechecked and rechecked all mounting screws.
3) at first I thought “it might be that my fps/ barrel/ pellets just dont match each other giving me bad accuracy but over an inch at 50 yards? And over 3 inches at 100 yards?
As dman says your groups at 50 yards determines there’s nothing wrong with your gun your spead is excellent shooting out to 100 yards with a air gun is very tricky lots put up groups resembling .223 live rounds at 100-200 yards they just make me laugh tbh lot can put up pics but you don’t see any witnessed or better still videos of them doing it getting a tight group at 100 yards as way to many variables to be getting pellet on pellet time after time ESP with a .22 pellet
Hello Chad,
Yes, your crony string looks good to me very comparable to many.
The POI shift with and without is most likely from barrel harmonics in conjunction/addition with the Shroud/LDC added mass.
Try resting your hand on the shroud when shooting to dampen the effect and see if it has a difference, mainly the grouping should go up like without it on.
I’d also try and remove just the LDC, leave the shroud on and try it again.
The reduction of removing the mass on the end may lessen the effect.
Also not to offend you or anything but Bullpups are and can be harder to learn how to shoot well then a standard long rifle, especially the larger cals.
Question, what type of barrel clean method/system have you been using ?
~ GKU
Chad what do your pellets look like from the back. The thick skirt pellets or the newer or 2014 kings did not do good in my 25 cricket. Your shot string is good so it’s either the shroud or your barrel. I believe it’s a bad shroud plus bad pellets. Try to find some older thin skirted pellets. My 22 cricket group at 70 yards was better that my 25 at 50 yards

If you haven’t seen this video yet that shows an X-Ray’d Cricket being cocked and fired, it should give you a visual of how the hammer spring behaves. Pay attention to how the hammer spring after pushing the hammer forward. Note how the midsection and front end of the spring bounces back and forth quickly.

I had the same exact problems and sent it to Ernest. Here is what he did – basically.

Ok. I forgot to also mention that you need to set the hammer spring so that it doesn’t double-bounce. I know it’s perhaps inconceivable, but if the spring exhibits some chatter (evidence of double-striking) due to it being relaxed, or if there is too little tension, this could be the reason for inaccuracy. It happens very quickly, but it’s pretty audible as when the spring has the correct tension it exhibits a sharp and tight sound. If the hammer were to strike the valve a second time (and this happens very quickly) it will emit a second charge that can disturb the pellet while it’s still traveling outwards from the barrel. Perhaps this is why unregulated guns exhibit POI changes because their valve becomes easier to open and thus allows the spring to be overly springy which then causes the the hammer to thrust back after its initial strike and then hitting the valve again in microseconds. I believe this phenomena is another common cause of inaccuracy in airguns in addition to the other mechanical issues (e.g., dirty barrel, loose scope mounts, loose barrel screws, etc.).
My Cricket shot like a laser out of the box and emitted a sharp, high-pitched “tink” sound; however, I wanted increased shot count. The gun has only had jsb 25s :biggrinn:
Chad, also, try to refrain from shooting any other pellet than what the rifle prefers. I believe that a given quality and consistent pellet (with respect to weight, dimensions, etc.) will leave it’s signature leading (path) on the barrel which is exclusive to that particular pellet. When this is established after shooting several rounds of it, each subsequent pellet will position itself during the shot cycle in accordance to how the leading pattern is left on the chosen pellet.
If you want to try other pellets, clean the barrel good to remove the leading pattern/signature of the previous pellet then shoot several rounds for the new pellet to create its leading signature.
Just my thoughts on things.
The bottom picture is at 50 yards 1.161 inches I would say I am a decent shooter.
chad i don’t know your shooting history but i would test at 50 yards… if you can put ten pellets in a half inch hole or under….. its good.
shooting out to 100 yards is extremly hard. and take a bit of practice.

I dont know the difference in thick or thin skirt I dont have anything to compare. I am getting the same accuracy with and with out my shroud as shown in picture 1.
