Try slugging the barrel before and after to see if it makes any difference… 😯

Fantastic info, Tedd! For every post on this thread, I’ll bet there are 20 non-posters soaking it up. The groups look much improved since yesterday, and your tone seems much more positive. The photo you’ve attached not only shows a good comparison of the two guns, it also shows a good comparison of the two different shroud designs.
So, be honest, has it killed anything yet? 😉

Those groups were a little past the 50 yard mark and I was shooting at an angle, to keep out of the sun. I estimate they are at about 55 yards. I haven’t put a de pinger in it. It needs one. Even shooting at 1094fps, It is a lot quieter than my .22. I have to almost try hard to hear it.
All groups were shot with JSB 25.40 Exact King pellets. I was going to try the Kodiaks but, there was a hell of a storm coming. If I can’t get the gun slowed down and still have it shoot consistent, I might have to try the Kodiaks. They slow the gun down about 60fps and might be the answer, if they shoot as well as the JSBs.
It was kinda cool shooting today. The pellets would go thru the target and continue down range. When they finally hit the ground, they would throw up clods and a small dust cloud. They hit hard, even at 950fps.
I’m sure that you will do the barrel work before you go shooting. I didn’t and was kinda bummed out with the way it shot. Dr. Mamcrackin’s prescribed treatment helped a whole lot.
That .375 ctc group looks HUGE compaired to a .375 ctc .22 cal. group. I had to measure it a couple of times, just to be sure I was reading the calipers right! 😆

want to stop shooting.. I am set and ready for some heavy testing on

What was the yardage and what pellets for todays testing?
Mark, Here is the pic.
OK, some of you wanted shot counts, groups and speeds. You asked for it, you got it.
I used fine valve grinding compound, on a patch and ran it thru a couple of times. Cleaned it out and then used polishing compound. I also polished the in lead and crown.
Today I got my tanks filled and went back to the range. I got 60 shots on a fill from 3100 to 1700psi. These are the 12, 5 shot groups, all shot on the same fill. I started on the lower left and went across to the right. I then worked my way up the target, next row up and right to left on each row.
The first group was 11094fps. JSBs don’t like going that fast. I tried turning the gun down to 880 and got real close at 873. The 2 groups at 873 weren’t to bad. My Matador, when set that low shoots a bell curve. The next group was at 890 then 909, the 909fps group was.450. The next group was 909-920, I got a flier that ruined a good group.
The next group started at 920 and the top 2 holes were 938, the 938s ruined another good group. The next group started at 935 with a 945 flier. The best group, of the day, was next it started at 959fps and was .375 ctc. On the top right hand group, the speed went from 982 to 992. On the middle of the top row, the first 3 shots were 991 and the speed started dropping to 978. On the last group, the first shot was 979 and the bottom hole was at 947.
From yesterday, I knew that setting the gun at 880 would give a bell curve. I thought that a bell curve might be a good way to find a sweet spot. It looks like 900 to 950 is a good speed range.
The long version is a lot harder to cock and I thought that the hammer spring was stronger. I tried the spring out of my standard and I think that they are the same spring. Something is making the long version much harder to cock. Maybe Tony or Ed will give their input.
Tomorrow, I am going to try a 940 to 960 starting speed and see if I can get 30-40 regulated shots with no more than a 3-4fps variation. I might have to play with the fill pressure also.
The gun is shooting much tighter groups today. The tightest group I got, the .375 ctc still had too much of a fps variation. The first 3 shots were in one ragged hole, the last 2 were higher fps and opened up the group.
I might have to go over the barrel once more. I was sold the wrong size bore mops and might not have done an adequate job with the compounds.

Interesting you should use that analogy. In the early days of whiskey making, there was a job in the distillery that required pulling the corks out of the barrels. Since the barrels were so heavy, the workers had to use both hands to hold the barrel and then grasp the cork with their lips and literally suck it out of the barrel. These men were known as “Cork Suckers”.
Given the date, in the 1800’s, they were generally not well educated, and were thus were known as “Ignorant Cork Suckers”.

Looks like the 25 is starting to live up to everyone’s expectations. Thanks for laying down the ground work on the gun. With you and Jeff on the gun, it will be very interesting to see what the end result will be 😀 I ‘m afraid to call Tony and ask him about the next shipment of 25’s. 😯
Pigs have been coming back to the property every night. They are still rooting around the wife’s pineapple patch. However no pineapples to be found since they ate them all while we were on Oahu last week. 👿 They are either coming out late at night or early morning. I’ve been putting out some papaya and pineapple rinds to draw them in. Hey—– here’s an idea, why don’t you overnight your 25 to me so I can try them out on some pigs? Betcha that 25 would be good medicine out to 25 yards. 😆
