Q:

My Cricket Bullpup Wood Stock Hack

I’ve been meaning to do this for quite some time now, and I finally have some time to do so.
Stay tune while I hack off some serious weight off this old Pug.

I’ll be posting as I go, thanks for L@@king !

Warning this is and will be a drunken post / thread, please be kind.

Freakin amazing man!! Great lookin stock

I appreciate that guys, thanks !

After a bit of 400g sanding, I ended up giving it 8 smoke coats, one regular coat = 4 smoke coats.

Compared to my other KG Bullpup stock I have.

Wow. You do good work!!

Looks really nice, what’s the actual weight now? Love the finger grove work on the grip. :8:

…yep, one more reason I don’t do wood!!! WAY to slow of a process for my patience (or lack thereof)! It does look great however! For the final coat(s), will you remove the cover from the logo and checkering to make them look blended and sealed?

One of its kind! Just what I would expect from you Greg
What’s the final weight?

That is one nice looking stock I may say….. :8:

WOW Greg, that is beautiful work and decent replacement of WST stock. Kalibrgun made a big mistake when they canceled WST stock! They should keep WST or similar style like Greg did and cancel buldog stock 🙄

Thanks Jan !!!
Yes I agree with you KG so have went the other way.
I think what SECoda said is also true,” I think it was a bad decision by Kalibrgun but the skeletons were more expensive to make and the factory priced them higher.”

First coats of clear finish.

2 coats, lightly sanded with synthetic 000 steal wool every other coat.

6 coats after.

10 coats after.

12 coats after, I started to smoke spray the surface with the finish to give it a soft frosted texture.

Top notch Greg!! That’s beats plastic by a mile! Trouble is, it will be to nice to take out hunting and chance getting a scratch on it!

Yes, but in a year of ware and tear, it’s not to hard to strip the entire stock with paint stripper and do minor tweaks here and there.
Then lightly sand and refinish.

My local hardware store was out of wood conditioner, it might look and come out a little blotchy.
3 coat of Dark Walnut Stain so far ….. looking okay.

Ready for the clear coats, very thin ones maybe 8-12 of them ?

Lovin it GKU

Sealed the action bed interior …..

Finish sanding down to 220g, sand ,,, ,, sand ,,, ,,, , sand …..
I rounded over all sharp edges especially the one on the top outside corner, I hated that sharp edge.
Made sure that all the nooks are taken cared of.

To sand out the concave finger wells, I taped my thump and place it inside of each and pulled the sandpaper out from under.
Works great on other areas also.

I paid special attention to the inside of the trigger guard, I don’t like to feel anything rough or sharp there.
Looks ready for staining …….
