New CF shroud & muffler for the Bug !
I received my shiny, new CF parts today. The shroud makes the barrel and airtube equally long so now the gun looks that much better. The end cap is removable and underneath it there´s threading for the masive muffler if/when one wants to go stealth.
Unfortunately me and the manufacturer had a little lack of communication so the shroud is 20mm too short at the muzzle-end and thus the much bigger OD muffler can´t be threaded on.
No worries though since he´ll make me one in correct length.
Sorry about the usual “high” quality of them Pic´s … 😳

Thanks Steve (Scirrocco) for hooking me up !! :6:

I hear you! I don´t care about the noise that much – it´s just new Toys for the Wifey stare at with that hollow look in Her eyes.
I´ll have a shorty ( 30mm shorter than the OEM) made for the Compact too – together with an extra muffler. That will be one quiet little Bug with the extra muffler attached. And as you said the noise from the pellet impact is next to nothing compared to the .25 smack – much less in comparison to the .30 cal.
I don’t generally care about the noise with neighbors but I do care on the “other” sparrows. I am hoping with the .177 I won’t have that substantial crack on pellet impact that I hear on the .22, .25, and .30 that scares the other birdies away for a while. In my youth I often used to shoot birdies from a electric wire by the road with a CO2 pistol and they often watched their brethren fall w/o any flight at all because the impact was so negligible. Anyway, at that point I may need to start worrying about gun noise too. I think Ernest tunes his gun down a bit as well and has a good moderator on it. Baby Cricket will be a dedicated sparrow/Starling/Pigeon gun and for the woodpeckers on the house. :biggrinn:
I need to measure. The “shorty” is 60mm shorter than the OEM and, if i remember this correctly, the muffler is 220mm long so that in turn adds to 160mm longer OAL compared to the std length at 840mm = 1000mm/ 1 meter, which in turn is 39,37 inches. I think.
It´s long but not overly so and since the Muffler and shorty shroud are very light it doesn´t much rub the balance so it feels weird.

Sir Ville, you are truly a man of honor and responsibility!! Condoms are a vital link in protecting the gene pool, even if they are over sized. :winkn:

PS. very nice muffler
It’s Purdy! :8: How long is that with the muffler?
Now i got some pics, finally. I gave the muffler the all-important Backyard test with the OEM shroud, the OEM length CF shroud, the shorty CF shroud and the shorty with the extra CF muffler and had my neighbour as a Judge for the noise level. He was standing behind the Fence and so he couldn´t see what shroud was on. The results were as espected ,counting from the loudest to the quietest:
– Shorty CF
– OEM
– OEM length CF
and of course the quietest was the shorty/muffler combo. It is rediculously quiet with that can attached. I´m supersatisfied !

… and NO – i have no Redfield scope on it, heaven forbid. Just the Condom with the Redfield-logo to protect the scope.
Even though I’m happy with my set-up, I think I’ll just for grins, take that round piece of masking tape covering the end of the shroud, then take a .22 cal pellet, ink the end and put a ink circle in the center of the bore. Shoot the pellet, flip it over and judge what I get. I’m not sure if a pellet would cut a clean hole through masking tape, Guess it would be easy enough to find out.
Thought provoking at least, I’d like to experiment with some testing of this theory in warm weather. I think the build up a tape for testing for clipping or poi shift if applied on only one side of the port would answer the question. I would not be surprised either way. I still think if it does have an effect it is no real world big deal as it should be repeatable.
On a side note, I wonder if a piece of masking tape cut to a circle and taped to the end of the moderator would allow for some guesstimation that it traveling at a safe distance from the bore sidewall.
That´s my take on the matter too , with one caveat : It´s not impossible to get everything exactly lined up but once bumped onto something , removed , retightened etc,etc it won´t be exactly lined up anymore.
I´m no engineer but that much i do know.
I talked to the Gunsmith i regard as one of the best in business and asked him about this. Although i couldn´t see his expression i can imagine he was staring at me, thru the connection, the way one stares somebody who asks a dumb question ; “Is he joking or what ??”
The way i usually look at Dr. Evil …
Ride – I quarantee none of yor guns moderators /shrouds will be that exactly dead center. None! I know what you mean about the air in front of the Pellet but i seriously doubt it will have an effect that´s even measurable. The little air the Pellet pushes in front of it has plenty of space to get out of the way in between them baffles. The air behind it – the propellant – is just that, behind the Pellet.
It´s , of course , essential that no contact of any kind is present during the passage but i don´t buy the “dead-center” -thing. As said none of us , you, me or anyone in this Forum have a gun with excatly centered shroud/muffler.
I think the real question is if it’s possible possible to truely get a pellet to travel through the dead center of a moderator. Impossible task of chasing infinity . Considering that the pellet is rising as it leaves the end of the barrel is just one variable to deal with. I’ll go with the premise that it’s not necessary and inherently impossible to do, so I’ll settle on being Happy if it doesn’t clip and the pellet is consistently hitting true to what I’m aiming at.
On a side note, I wonder if a piece of masking tape cut to a circle and taped to the end of the moderator would allow for some guesstimation that it traveling at a safe distance from the bore sidewall.
Well – i’ll do the same i do with everything i’m not familiar with and test / see myself. Untill now i’m very satisfied with these bits , the price and the customer service. I’ll order shorter shroud / extra muffler to my shortly arriving .177 compact too and have no reason to believe that combo being less wellmade than my two current shrouds and the muffler.
I still don’t get the claim about the pellet passing dead-center thru the baffle stack or the accuracy suffers so i’ll ask my trusted Gunsmith about that.
Clipping, even the tiniest touch, will of course have its effect but if no contact occurs while the pellet passes thru the stack what does it matter whether dead center or .08 mm left/right/up/down during the passage? Am i dumb, blind, ignorant or all those combined??

I have to admit I don’t know this answer but for what it is worth in the world of aerodynamics I would think the air in front of and and rushing around the leading edges of a speeding pellet would have a significant effect on point of impact if it did not travel through the very center of a shroud port. I think it could well be repeatable but there would be an influence. Think of bugs and snow flying up and over your cars windshield but do not hit it. I just feel certain is can matter. So while neither of us can say for sure I am at least on the other side of this question. maybe we can find out with a little testing.
I’ve now searched thru several UK Forums and to me it seems like it’s the same couple of guys talking negative about the Pegg handywork. Seems almost like something personal to me.

This will be my second CF NC air stripper. I picked up one for my AA S510 and have had no issues with accuracy that i’m aware of and I’m happy with my grouping. I have not received or tested the .22 Cricket with or without the stripper but will be sure to but it through the paces. But what i’ve seen in the quality of Neil’s work it is impressive and I’ve been please with the product that he has put out in the past.
