New Talon SS .22 Chrony Results
I started with a 2700PSI fill pressure and after about 20 shots I was down to 2500 with the powerwheel set to 1. I was shooting JSB Exact Jumbo Express Diablos that weigh in at 14.35gr… I had the PW set to 3 before the test, but the velocity was at nearly 870, so I decided to take it down to 1 on the PW. Are these highly variable results typical with the PW set so low, or is my gun just weird? All 20 shots fit into a dime size hole at 15-20 yards, with very little effort.

Makes sense. I have the new gun coming in today and I’ll fill it up to 2500 and see how it does. I guess when the pressure gets too high in the tank the hammer may not have enough force to open it up for long enough to get the maximum amount of air, etc.
I cannot speak for chronograph end results. But using chair gun backwards using my poi changes I’ve been able to calculate I’m running my Kodak 21.14 at around 930-940 fps(chrony should be in next week). My power wheel is set to 4-4. I never fill to 3000 with where I have my gun set if I do I waste shots and air losing psi in my tank to gain fps in my pellet coming out of my barrel. My optimum range is from 2450 down to 1850with no poi change at my 70 yard zero. But with that said if I fill to 3000 and shoot down to 2500 my groups suffer, than when I enter my “magic range” of 2450-1800 my groups have been superb and than like the latter when I drop below 1800 my groups begin to suffer again. Just because the gun is rated to take 3000 psi doesn’t mean it works best at that fill in every situation every time, often times and for most members on here who shoot unregulated 3000 psi is most likely not their fill starting pressure. It kind of like how they make xxxxxl thongs just cause they make them and say they work doesn’t mean they should be worn :8:

Mine has an o-ring looking lip on the delrin cap, but it’s a single piece.

How does the hammer slap mod work?
I have a hammer weight if you want to try that first if not the TT hammer you are looking at also has the hammer slap mod so it will quite down the sound from the hammer

I can push JSBs over 1100 (a whole lot over) with an 18″ barrel. I’d think 900 would be reasonable at 12″.

I was getting up to 1000 FPS with 14.35gr JSBs out of a .22 12” Talon SS… I don’t know why I wouldn’t be able to reasonably get over 800. I’m assuming I’d use a lot more air in the process.
You must have been lucky to get 1,000 fps from a 12″. Both my 12″ top out at 820 with 14 gr. pellets. I did have an o-ring under my top hat but i dont think it would lose 180 fps using one. Personaly i like the 18″ barrels in all three calibers because of the better efficiency. It will all come down to personal preference but for me here are all my reasons for the 18″
1: efficiency
2: i can run a lower pw setting which lowers the trigger pull required compaired to higher pw settings
3:lower fill pressure to get the same velocity so more fills from the tank. This is a small consideration in the grand scheme of things.
4: quieter shots because less air is required to get the same performance as the shorter barrel. This can be overcome by using aftermarket ldc but that adds length and ultimately puts you closer to the same oal as a condor ss. When i pushed my talon ss to the higher velocity as an 18″ using a high flow tank and hammer weight it got noticeably louder. I ditched that experiment and installed an 18″ barrel into my talon ss frame and built an ldc for it and that put it the same oal as a condor ss.
That’ll do it.

If you need a one piece heavy hammer, let me know I got one for sale…
Used it on my TalonP and there was simply no way to tune it. This 100g hammer is too heavy! The hammer is hitting too hard and I can’t set the PW any lower.
Take your tophat assembly to your favorite hardware or auto supply and get the thinnest o-ring that fits the stem.

Spec on a stock Talon SS is ~700fps. (In .25) More hammer weight = higher usable tank pressure. Add increased flow from modified valve and you should be fine. Given how many here run the TT hammer, you can surely find a sweet deal on a weight, or just go directly to a TT hammer to begin with. I’d try just the valve stem with an o-ring. That may well give you what you want.

so what gun did you decided to get?
PA sent me a replacement Talon SS in .25 cal… it’s actually being delivered today. If I have issues with this rifle I think I’ll just return it and maybe save up for a Cricket or Matador R3. If the gun works well I’ll end up doing some performance mods to it.
