Q:

New Talon SS .22 Chrony Results

I started with a 2700PSI fill pressure and after about 20 shots I was down to 2500 with the powerwheel set to 1. I was shooting JSB Exact Jumbo Express Diablos that weigh in at 14.35gr… I had the PW set to 3 before the test, but the velocity was at nearly 870, so I decided to take it down to 1 on the PW. Are these highly variable results typical with the PW set so low, or is my gun just weird? All 20 shots fit into a dime size hole at 15-20 yards, with very little effort.

Spec on a stock Talon SS is ~700fps. (In .25) More hammer weight = higher usable tank pressure. Add increased flow from modified valve and you should be fine. Given how many here run the TT hammer, you can surely find a sweet deal on a weight, or just go directly to a TT hammer to begin with. I’d try just the valve stem with an o-ring. That may well give you what you want.

I have 4 tins of the JSB Excact King Diablo in 25.39gr. Wouldn’t they go 750FPS+ in the 12” barrel?

I can push JSBs over 1100 (a whole lot over) with an 18″ barrel. I’d think 900 would be reasonable at 12″.

I was getting up to 1000 FPS with 14.35gr JSBs out of a .22 12” Talon SS… I don’t know why I wouldn’t be able to reasonably get over 800. I’m assuming I’d use a lot more air in the process.

Hell, use an even lighter pellet and you can increase your fps. Is super high fps the be all and end all??
You should be looking to hurl a decent weight pellet down range at a sensible speed so you can retain good fpe at the target.
An 18″ barrel is fine for a hunting barrel, not too long for the bush. You can use a 12″ barrel and achieve the same sort of velocities but you will use more air.
How many shots do you need for a hunting outing? 20 shots max if shooting small game that is abundant.
You want to shoot Yotes? Then 5 shots with max weight pellet is enough. (You should be so lucky to have 5 yotes in your crosshairs for one outing)

Choose your rifle set up depending on what your prey is. That’s the beauty with this platform, unlike the rest of the PCP market. Airforce rifles allow you to pick and choose what you want to do.

If you’re not getting the velocity you want, you should be close enough to fix the problem fairly easily. You’re already running a hammer weight, right? Port and polish the valve stem, maybe. The shorter the barrel, the more air needed to get equal velocity.

I don’t think so. What distance have you zeroed your rifle too? You just need to know which mil-dot to aim for that’s all…

I have the Hawke 6.5-20×42 with 1/2 mil dots at 20x so I have a lot of them to work with. Trying to figure out where to zero it though. I guess the further out I zero it the more range I should have.

With the 12″ or 18″? The 18″ will push 31 gr. pellets over 950 fps. Using the 12″ if my memory is correct you will only top out around 700 fps or less. 700 fps is still powerful because the pellet weight is high and has good energy but the pellet will not shoot very flat at the lower speeds and will have a big arc. The other benefit with the longer barrel is that it will be more efficient than the shorter barrel so that is something to consider also.

If I’m shooting under 50 yards mostly, is the arc a big issue? I have 4 tins of the JSB Excact King Diablo in 25.39gr. Wouldn’t they go 750FPS+ in the 12” barrel?

I like my condor ss in .25 with the 18″ barrel. I dont know if i would like the 12″ because the velocity drop but it would depend on what you wanted it to do. My .25 is pretty quiet in the ss form.

What kind of velocity do you think I could expect in stock form?

There you go

So you think the .25 12” barrel is a good option?

PA is asking me to return the rifle since the gauge is off by more than 5%. I think I might exchange it for the new .25 cal version. The sound-loc .22 version was super quiet to begin with, I’m sure the sound of the .25 won’t be too bad.
