Offset Moderators Ed promised us?

Based on the simple physics of increasing volume for the muzzle gas to expand in, you will definitely experience a noticeable difference in noise.
There is no such thing as a true “silencer” for a firearm, only a “moderator” which is little more than a muffler in it’s effect. In any caliber larger than a .22, it can only help, but not eliminate. The BATF is finally realizing this and a bill is pending in the Congress to permit “silencer” sales with nothing more than a background check.
However, in pcp airguns, this becomes a different equation altogether, because of the low air pressures involved in the muzzle gas release. A true “silencer” is possible. There are only three ways to significantly reduce sound from a pcp, that is give more volume for the gas to expand before exiting the muzzle, baffle the gas stream to slow it’s exit, re-direct some of the gas, in small quantities, away from the muzzle by venting the shroud.
Ed addresses all three of these elements. His vents at the base of the shroud are too small, in my opinion, to offer the full potential for sound reduction. That can be remedied easily by re-drilling the openings to be slightly larger. Eccentric design is the best means of permitting muzzle gas to expand prior to being released at a lower pressure. Ed’s baffles are time tested and effective, perhaps not as effective as DonnyFL’s felt muffled design, but certainly effective enough for the average shooter.
I don’t see how anyone could possibly go wrong in buying this mod from Tony. Unless DonnyFL comes up with an eccentric moderator of his own that could be fitted to the Edgun shroud. That would be worth the money! However, the barrel-tension design of Ed’s shrouds might not permit an after-market ldc to work. Neil Clague tried that and it just wasn’t worth the time and cost to be marketable.

There is no info just Toshik taking names on a list for when they do come. Yes it would be real nice to have the real information about this moderator.
If would great to hear from folks on how well these moderators work. I have a .25 standard and have been seriously considering picking up one of these moderators. I am holding off from jumping in until I hear back from someone with a more detailed assessment. My experience in the past with moderators has taut me to lower my expectations and get some meaningful information before jumping in. Improvements can be very subjective. Thanks in advance to anyone that can share their experience.
Cheers!
Does anyone in the states have one of these on order? Just wondering what you were quoted time/price wise?

Just managed to get it off and having to cut the Allen key now with a bloody dremel. Should have this fitted soon hopefully. I’m half way through cutting now and taking a rest as been at it for 30 minutes.

Hang in there!!! We’ve all been where you are now, and a bit of patience will pay premiums in the long run. Working on these “instruments” can be very frustrating sometimes, but the results are usually worth the effort.

Thank you Hoot
I have been in the hobby for just a couple months so still have a lot to learn.
Just got the new moderator fitted.

It’s the baffles I could not get off.

Parrot…is it the cover on the moderator you can’t get off? Or are the baffles giving you the problem?
The cover has always been a problem to first get loose because it is put on very very tight! It is very hard to grip it tight enough to put a lot of pressure on it.

Hint, hint Donny. Anyways I have been using one of Donny’s last designed ldc on my Matador R3M standard 25cal for the past several months and I’m totally satisfied with how it works. Been knocking off iguanas left and right with no complaints.
