Quick session with the cricket
This morning I went out for a quick paper punching session before the harsh South African sun gets high in sky.
I filled my Kalibrgun Cricket .25 to 220bar, cleaned the barrel with surgical spirits and got ready to send some lead.
The wind was quite strong blowing about 12-16km/h. I used shooting bags in the prone position. Not the most comfortable way, but it is stable and that matters most.
I shot three, 5 shot groups at 50m. All with JSB king 25gr straight out of the tin. I dont hunt much further than this, becuse I rarely have a stable platform. I mostly hunt out of the seated position, out of hand, or off some homemade shooting sticks.
The wind varied quite a bit, but I kept the same POA the whole time. Unforunatly I pulled one of the shots, but otherwise I am pretty happy with these 3 groups.
I would like to see what kind of groups you guys are getting.

GKU: you see the POI drop on the last target, what do you think that come from a change in AT pressure? or maybe a different in outside air temperature?
I’m not a paper puncher, but this is 1 mag = 14 shot groups at 50 yards with different JSB 18g pellet lots I’m testing.
Rested on 3 Caldwell bags and shot off my tail gate of my truck, all pellets unsorted straight out of the tins / no lubing.
Target spec .22″ bull, .5″ mid and 1″ outer ring, first target is about 1/4″ ctc.

I have a Cricket .22 on order and once I get it and it has broken in properly I’ll get back to this thread and post some 50m results.

I am in Texas, of course I live out side the city, But in the city air guns are restricted, You can not shoot them in the city limits and you can not have one in your car past sundown, Lots of vandalism from kids with BB Guns.
You can carry a hand gun in your car as long as its not in plan sight, Under the seat or in the glove box,
Or you can take a four hour class and get a CHL , Carry a hand gun in the open or concealed ,
We have only been open carry since Jan, of this year, Its still strange to see someone walking around with a gun strapped on,
We have been concealed carry for years and I made it a habit to count the gun butts I could make out under the shirts, Lots of them…

I guess it is their way of forcing airgunners to either use .22 caliber and smaller or licence the larger calibers.
They know very well that 6fpe is useless, except for flies, but shot placement is key on flies with that power :biggrinn:
Yes, you americans have it good. There is no limit to your fun, the best part is that you can shoot in towns. Just like the guys in the UK, there is such awesome airgun community over at you guys. You get together, shoot some pests and have a good time. Most airgunners here are far apart.The price of all airgun equipment is much cheaper over at you guys aswell 👿
Holly Shit that’s insane!!! Here in Ohio, we can shoot just about anything from squirrels to woodchucks to most crop eating birds. FPE, skies the limit. What the hell good is a gun that only shoots 6fpe?? Both my cricket and Vulcan shoot 32fpe and when they hit you hear a big SMACK!
The only law regarding the physical air rifle we have is any caliber larger than 5.5mm (.22) has to be licenced as a firearm. However the law states that you can own any airgun caliber larger than .22 without being licenced BUT it cannot exceed 6fpe in power, so you can own a .45 cal ranger, but it must be under 6fpe to be owned unlicenced :ugeekn: . No restrictions on silencers either.
Any as I said it is not allowed to discharge an air rifle in a built up area (town or city). The hunting/killing of ANY animal in city limits is also against the law.
But once we leave city borders we can shoot/hunt as much as we want with no bag limit or closed season on any small game :biggrinn:

Same here as in Sweden only with small difference. We have limit 12fpe silencer and hunt is forbidden too… 😡

“Strictly speaking” our airguns must be restricted to 10j or around 7,4 fpe in order to be legal. You can have higher if you got an “FAC” or as we call it, an airgun license. We have VERY strict rules on airguns. Silencers are illeagal unless you are lucky enough to get a license for one however shrouds allready mounted are leagal as far as I know.
We are not allowed to hunt anything without permission and a hunting license, and even then, very strict rules. You also need a weapons cabinet if you get a license and if the police knocks on your door and find your airgun outside of the cabinet (and it is obvius that you are not headed for the shooting range) they Basicaly take away your guns and licenses…. :angrymob: :3:
I live in the western cape province (southwestern part of the country) and there are basically places to hunt all over. From grey squirrels in pecan and acorn trees to spur winged geese and egiptian geese in grain fields. If I drive North about 350km I enter the “Karoo” which is where the Dassies are (I am sure you have seen Matt Dubbers videos on them)
Where most airgunners from around the world have to go around asking people to hunt on their land, I have been lucky enough to get calls from people asking me to take out squirrels that are in their pecan orchards and pest birds that chomp at their table grape vineyards.
To be honest we have airgun heaven down here. Except strictly speaking we cant fire an airgun in any built up area. 😳

That is some nice shooting Greg!! The potential of PCP’s are amazing. How far do you guys shoot and hunt out to? I regularly see guys on YouTube and forum hunting out to 100m with .22 airguns and posting amazing results with paper punching. How realistic is that type of shooting really? or maybe I need more practice 😐 😳
