Ranger 45
Well I have a tracking number for the Ranger 45 that was assembled, test fired, chronyed, and shipped today.
28 inch barrel, standard stock and black crerakote finish, $1230 dollars including shipping.
To early to get the arrival date, it is not in the system yet.
Chrony numbers were:
Round ball. low setting 3000 PSI……1018 FPS
225………. low setting 3000 PSI……..877 FPS
405 shot 1 hi setting 4500 PSI………804 FPS
340 shot 2 hi setting 4500 PSI………843 FPS
These numbers will improve by 30 to 50 FPS as the rifle breaks in.

RC,
What was the final tally on the slugs I sent? Did the .4515s shoot worth a hoot? I don’t care the devastators but I’m curious as to how the three sizes for the Raptors and 340HPs stacked up. I figure it’s just a matter of time before someone who does not want to cast buys a Ranger and want’s to buy some slugs. It’s always good to know what size to recommend…. .452 looks like a safe bet so far!
Dan,
1300 RB! That is about 320 fills. 😯
I bought 10 of the 45 acp cartridge boxes to fill with the 416’s and I have been putting my RB into a bottle of Corona until I find something more suitable.
Good use for it now that I can’t drink booze.

It shot minutoe of Doug Fir, I just shot them over the box. Now yesterday they were holding about an inch or so on Madrone tunks, but I have yet to put them on paper.
They do appear to be quite accurate tho.

cool , i casted about 1300 so far , i know i will be shooting the hell out of them anyway, so far they are the best bang for the buck , they also have shot the best out of my 909 308 cal so far, 310 sized , for closer ranges .

Same power with the same projectile and far better accuracy than what Captain Walker had in 1847. 😆

how was the accuracy ? or how did it group ?
Well, I shot 5 shots thru the Ranger with RB at a 3800 PSI fill on med power. 1047, 1240,1130,1047,855 FPS.

I sure did B. But that video is long lost. But its ok, i have more raptors and a better camera now so maybe i will do that video/sound clip again.
I think Tofazfou made a video once where he had the camera downrange next to the target so it could pick-up the sound of the Raptors screaming by. Pretty cool sound….I’ve only heard one other design make that type of sound out of all the designs I’ve tried.
RC,
Sorry to be so late to answer your question… The Raptor slugs are now $23 per 50 plus shipping. 50 slugs come sized as requested and we’ll do red or burple (we used to only do red for the standard price) and we’ll send them in 2 bags of 25 so half the slugs stay secure if you don’t shoot them all at one outing.
Shipping: We can get 50 slugs in the little flat rate box so 50 slugs comes to $10 for shipping (includes insurance and delivery confirmation) and 100 to 1000 (or more) will cost $15 for shipping.
BTW, have you heard the scream? I imagine that shooting the Ranger might leave you deaf just long enough to miss it, but these slugs actually scream towards the target! That’s what Ced and Chris were alluding to…
Marvin the only molds i have ordered are the larger heavy stuff , i need to find a lighter bullet also , so if you still want to send those , that would be great , Thanks Marvin , ………Dan
Dan I see that you ordered your molds already . I have Pm. you with no response . I don’t mind helping you but do you really need these bullets now .Marvin
Dan,
Yes I did size them, perhaps yours likes the sized bullets better.

I am pretty sure with the 408’s it is the sizing, whether it is the sizing to 452, time will tell, but today shooting the unsized slugs, they shot very well.
I am ordering lead tomorrow, and I mean pure lead, I had the mold cut to cast 452 wth pure lead, so I will try that, if they are too small I will just add some tin to get some girth.
You have to realize I am using a cheap caliper also, and who knows how accurate it is.

Charlie did you size the bullets you sent me 425’s ? i cleaned all the lube off them with some lacquer thinner , and as you know they stacked next to each other ,when i shot those slammers ! 😈
i just ordered the same accurate mold 452 sized , with a added casull 340 grain , 3- bullet mold , i like the speed of the 340 g , so i figured the casull was close in design as the 425, i am ordering a 255 grain also that is like the others
with what you found out on the lube , i am going to clean those hard cast bullets lube off that i bought , the laser cast ones , and see if that improves those a bit ,
chasing the perfect bullets for low /mid/high power ! 😆 😆
I have en larged the dies before . And .0005 -.001 is about all you will want to do . They are very hard . Use some of that atf and some 1000-2000 paper and see what happens . A final polish with semi chrome or some tooth paste will give it a smooth finish . I have had some of their dies that were so hard it was almost impossible to enlarge and some that were soft and easy to enlarge . You can order any size you want from lee as well .Marvin

well i got enough air 😉 HA ! HA !
i may not cast as many 416’s…. maybe 500 to start off with , i got another 80lbs of lead coming , and i still have 60lbs left of the last i bought , at a $1.20 soft pure lead price per lb …. it was hard to pass up a deal like that , i just hope the casull 340 shoots well , i think there is a good chance it will because the design is about the same as the 416 you are casting ,
check this storage box i got at HF, it’s the deeper one , i am going to use this one for all the 45 ranger stuff , i think i will get one more for orings / smaller pellets ….they work great, for around 14 bucks .
