Returned my Talon SS, help me decide what to replace it with
I had a Talon SS in .25 cal and just wasn’t happy with the top hat valve design and its inconsistencies in velocity due to it moving around on me… so I returned it to PA. After owning the Talon, I know I want something a little higher end, that is still compact and quiet. I still have my Hawke Sindwinder Tactical 6.5-20×42 scope and am trying to decide which Cricket to buy… or if the Edgun is worth the extra hassle.
I am a little concerned about the process of acquiring the Matador, so I’m leaning heavily towards the Cricket. I really like the skeleton stock, but it seems like it’s $300 more than the standard tactical version. I am just using the rifle to plink and hunt in my back yard… but I have several hundred yards to work with.

You should be ashamed. Such a small supply of pellets but a decent start. I’ve normally keep appx 50k of each of 22 and 25 and around 15k of .177. 🙂
Should I just buy pellets from PA with there buy 3 get 1 free? Would it be stupid to buy 12 tins of JSB 18.13gr so I get free shipping since it’s $152. Or am I better off buying a few different types and seeing what the cricket likes best?
I knew Demp had me beat from past posts and there are many others. I am just a pup in pellets. 😆

Woah that’s crazy. I guess pellets will only go up in cost like traditional ammunition… so may as well buy as much as you can while the prices are still relatively low.

Get want you want and don’t worry about three tins of pellets. I am ashamed to report in the last two months I have bought and crossed the 40,000 pellet mark in my inventory as I stocked up on 30 cal JSBs and .177 JSBs and .177 Predators. You will use them on the next gun. 😯

Seriously, Steve is a great guy to work with and Crickets are a pleasure to shoot. If you ever have trouble with it, Ernest can fix you up. Ed’s more the “fix it yourself” kind of guy.

Guess the overall length of the .25 is about the same size of the talon ss, and the .22 is about 6 inches shorter. I do like the idea of a super compact package, but I do have 3.5 tins of JSB .25 pellets laying around… decisions, decisions.

The walnut skeleton is lighter. Get yo’self over to WWAG and plunk down some money for a .25 Walnut skeleton Cricket and some JSB Kings. I picked one up, and would do it again. Day 1: unpack gun, fill and scope it. Day 2: fill up a kitchen trash bag full of squirrels.

I just hate the way the fore end is so bulky and what the did to the rear of the stock. The skeleton design really looks unique and was much lighter… Wish they offered the synthetic in skeleton form… Maybe that’d look cool.

One thing I wanna say, I tested a Cricket with the BullDog stock,…and I hated the feeling of it, soooo darn bulky.
I know what you mean. I too have the Burris Z Rings (high). In order for me to see through the scope I have to take the cheek piece off. I ordered the extra high to see how they work. I wish Burris made a set of inserts for 30mm scopes like they do for the 1″ tubes. What camera mount is that?

Yeah, it’s a big decision for me. Especially since it’s not like something from PA that you can just return if you’re not 100% happy with it… Luckily I was able to get rid of the Talon SS with no hassle so I can buy a proper rifle. Rather just pay more and buy the right gun once and not have to mod it to get it to shoot well. No regrets 🙂
I was in you place 3 months ago with the same thoughts. If the cricket wasn’t available I’d have sucked it up and be waiting to buy a used edgun. I bought the wst .25 from Steve at wwag. I absolutely love my cricket super accurate at 960fps, regulated and Steve is the only guy to buy from IMO. (I’m sure I’d like a matador if I had one as well. )

Once you know what it likes then yes buy bulk. I usually buy when they have the 10% off and free shipping combo and will buy around 40 tins at a time,15-20k pellets. Other than that just make sure to buy enough to get free ship.
