Time to test new Pellets !!
I got a Tin (or actually a Plastic Box) of Hurricane .25 cal. 30 ge pellets to try out. Really good looking Pills made to Hurricane Air Arms specifications and they resemble Daysate Rangemaster. I want to go Pellet testing right now but it´s dark, cold , humid and very windy. Maybe tomorrow.
I´ll , however , send a Tin of these to Whineyman so he can measure and test them since he´s much more qualified than i am. My approach is far less scientific : Shoot them and measure them Groups. The old way from those days before the Berlin Wall came down .. 😯
I actually inspected every single one of those 275 Pellets that came in the Box and there is zero percent distorted skirts. The skirts are kinda thick and these Pills are actually called ” split skirt” , whatever that means.

What’s new about the Hurricane 18 grain lead Exterminator air bullet?
1. It is made on a single die system and the wire feed is controlled by a laser micrometer, so every one is identical with minimal weight variation from batch to batch.
2. The unique patented split skirt allows it to adapt to the various types of rifling providing better accuracy and increases muzzle velocity because of lower friction through the barrel.
3. Its bullet shape has a superior ballistic coefficient which provides greater downrange energy.
4. The presentation of the Exterminator in its robust packaging ensures that you will not be throwing away distorted pellets because of cheap inferior packaging which should be a major consideration when assessing the cost per pellet at face value.

These are found in .22 & .25 cal. In .22 there are three different weights to choose from ; 18gr, 25gr and 37.5gr . I need to get the Doc to test those .22´s in his Cricket and EdGun.

My take on that : one can not just shoot a couple of groups at X velocity and rule a pellet out when/if it doesn’t perform.
Test different velocities is task nr. 1.
EdGun barrels are designed around them JSB’s at certain velocity so it’s especially important when testing pellets in one of those.

Many months ago i have asked this question if some body tested this monster on Edgun, my dearest brother Tregvy answered me yes, i have tired them and they are not performing as good as JSB 18.13gr performs …. you might need ask him
Wingman,that group is impressive indeed! Don’t know if they are avaliable here in the USA though. Would love to test them out in my custom .25 barrel.
Tried the Monsters, and they were a bust. But then again, I didn’t try pushing them to a higher velocity. Maybe I should have.
Too busy testing and trying different things with the .257 these days. 😀
Right now, it is shooting the 60 grain bullets at 1000 fps and dead accurate to 250 yards. This with only a 21″ bbl. 😀 Woo-Hoo!!!
But it does have a faster twist rate of 1 in 14″ so I think you are on to something! 😉

I´m quite sure there´s same problem with those – they need either high speed, steeper rifling or both. That longish shape has to get into rotation. Those look good though !

Thanks ! Next time i´ll have some air with me and i´ll pump the speed up to 1000 + ft/s and see what gives. I was very pleased with them Benjamins though so i´ll order 10 tins of those.
I managed to fit in a little trigger time today with the Hurricane pellets and plinked away a my 100 meter gong with both the AA S300 Bullpup and the B-Rod with mixed results.. the .22 pellet seems to be loosing stability at about 70 yards and the groups at 100 yards opened up to about 3.5 inches..
The .25 cal Hurricanes however were still very stable at that range..

Finally I set up a paper target at 100y and printed this 8 shot (full mag)1.25″ group with the B-rod.. Nothing wrong with the Hurricanes as long as you can get the velocity up..
Since the Cricket is “spot on” w/ the kings, I’ll use it as is for my benji test. I have a pile of kings on hand and don’t want to mess w/ the cricket’s accuracy. It’s pumping kings around 897 fps (273.4056 m/s) while the hypersexed Edgun is spewing kings at 948 or more (299.9232 m/s)= too fast. What’s interesting about both ‘pups is the ES on the Edgun is 10 and the Cricket is 9, and both have an SD of 2 (fps). so they both seem to be very good at what they do. Unfortunately, the Edgun needs more tinkering (“out of the box”) while the Cricket just needs prey.
If the Edgun can deliver the heavier benjis at accurate velocities, it’ll simplify things. Instead of tuning it down, it’ll just deliver more fpe using different ammo. Given the above fps numbers, benjis might work perfectly and save tinkering time. Plus, stripping bolts is less likely 😛
Like I said earlier, they shoot fine at 50 yards. It’s when you push them out to 80 and 100 yards that the Benj’s turn to crap. 🙁
Same results with kodiacs. Shoot pretty good a short range. (50 yards) but not good at longer ranges. 🙁

At the rate this winter is going it will be March before I shoot groups outside. I can do 20 yards in the basement. 😛 It’s the coldest global warming winter in over 20 years here.

Make sure you test them at different velocities to find the best speed for your barrel. I went on in 5 mps increments (18 ft/s) . I quess your Cricket will like them too.

Coda, please post your findings on the Benjis. My R3m long .25, shooting Kings is producing pretty crappy groups at 40 yds (3/4 -2 inches), so it needs a tune (probably fps too high). Better to know which pellet to gear towards first.

Just got in a couple tins of Benji domes, 27.8 gr to try out. *** Came home, hand-pumped up the Edgun R3M .25, loaded and quickly went outside in dim light with erratic breezes. After setting up at 40 yds, it took awhile to find the new poi, which was significantly right of where JSB hit 😕 Anyway, with such crappy conditions, I was expecting garbage results. Really wanted to see if the pellets were shotgunning.
However, a ragged hole started to form into a short line after 10-12 shots. With Benjis? WTF? I was shoveling snow/ice for hours-then hand pumped the gun and the results were still not disgusting? Since this was quick and dirty, it’s nothing but encouraging a closer look-see. I’ll continue when conditions improve and also get some chrony numbers. My guess is they’re probably zipping at a good clip, since the JSBs are going 950+.
Screw on lid, made in USA. 😀 Too bad the packaging includes a picture of Jim Shockey “World famous professional hunter”. Gag reflex has been activated. Proceeding with corrective measures: Will dial-in for Benjamin domes and paste image of Jim Shockey in Bull’s eye. Data points indicate converting the image to a big hole will present a more accurate visual representation of Jim Shockey. Urge to hurl fading…fading…
