Q:

While you’re waiting for your Matadors……..

I thought I would share with you how I coped waiting for my Matadors. It’s a loooong story with a lot to learn. I started this thread back in June 2011 while still waiting, – and oddly enough it became one of the most viewed threads on this forum.

This is how it started:

As it happens, I am the lucky owner of a serious harem of nice guns. And I frequently visit my summerplace on the coast down south in Norway, where weather is the only restriction to my shooting….

Summernights are nice and light with sunset around 22hrs….:

So yesterday I quit Oslo for a few weeks. Fed up with my loooongish waiting for ED and friends to deliver I took 11 members of my harem with me.

Here they are:

As some of you may know, I test and review guns for our Norwegian forum, and this time a comparison of springers is on the agenda….

So go ahead and name them, from left to right…….

And yes. There will be a more in depth test of Lelya 090 who has got new glasses for the occasion…….. 😉

Life is too short to sit put and wait……… 😀

If I did refill on time my second group, I could have won the scope! 🙂

We have this saying in my country: ‘If my grandmother was a male, I could have been born a girl’ 😆 😆 😆 (May be not as pretty one as Zoco would have liked me to be 😳 but nevertheless….)

Best of luck next time, Kazzz!

😀

Thanks guys… 🙂

@Zoco: no sorry, I don’t have a pull weighter 🙂 But it’s not as light as a daystate its, but as light as a Theobens’ and a lot lighter then a BSA’s!

@Koljo
: ok thanks, I will not complain and explain anymore. 🙂 But only 1 more thing: If I did refill on time my second group, I could have won the scope! 🙂

Not bad at all, but… I made a mistake!

I don’t know why (because of the cold) but the edgun only shoots good from 200 to 165 bar! They it grouped almost perfect!
But I forget to refill and shot 6 pellets orso under 165 bar.. causing group 2 and 3 open up! Refilled and again, 4 last pellets in the 10!
Darn…

But it was not mine Edgun, so I’m can be very happy with the result! I’ll give them hell next year!!!!

HEARTIEST CONGRATULATIONS, Kazzz :thumb: You are beginning to prove that you are not just a ‘flash in the pan’ boy. Consistently good shooting is worth much more in my opinion than the odd lucky win 😉

As for your commentaries on your performance may I suggest a very wise rule to follow: ‘Don’t COMPLAIN and don’t EXPLAIN!’

BTW, I agree with our friend Trygve that those BSA .25 Lonestars are very tough to beat. My John Bowkett .25 Special would probably be gun I’ll never part with.

😀

Very well done Kazzz !! 😀

Congratulations, – nothing to be ashamed of with a gun you dont know and in temperatures beyond normal……… 😉

And those BSA’s shoot very well indeed…

But too bad you did not win the “Terminator”…..!!!

😀

PS: Has anybody measured the weight of their Matador trigger pulls ? 🙄

I need data for comparison……

Please…….. 😀

I’ll try again:

And back from the Championship!

I got……. 2nd!

I guess I may have missed something one more time….. 🙁

Oh well, – this is not the first time our dear Mr Kolonik has been violating somebody’s terms of service……. 😉

😀

Well, I guess Image shack censors come from the Bible Belt area. I wander if they will find this one offensive 😳

Try to almost complete turn out the 1stage screw and a complete in of the 2nd stage screw…
You should get a very light but sponzy triggerfeel..
Then turn out the 2nd stage a bit, if not good, turn in 1st stage etc…

Stop foolin around with the ladies and post the trigger pull figures!

Unfortunately its snowing here now…. 😥

My GF loves to look at the snow, – but only from inside the window and next to the fireplace….. 😉

So I had time to continue my tests for a while……..

Here are the average readings based on 10 measurements for a few of my guns (all numbers in grams, may be lbs later):

First a couple of my HW100s:

Both in the 300 gr area, – which is what I prefer…

Then one of my Daystate Huntsman Classics:

– and my BSA R10:

Here’s the Veles that I have not had the time to play with yet:

And finally my Matadors as they are right now:

There’s a world of difference between ED’s guns and my other playmates…

And I am struggling to get them adjusted down below 500 grs (2.2 lbs) triggerpull………

Comments….???? 😀

Judging from your figures, I would say it’s highly likely that you were “off the regulator” in your previous tests and with a hammerspring not giving enough. As a consequence you may have conducted your tests from the part of the string that was “unregulated” but away from the “sweet spot”.

What you have done seems very logical, – and should help in my opinion…. 😀

Keep us updated please…. 😉

Ok, the chrony settings explained already a thing:

I fiered the first shots around 140-135 bar:
923,7
924.2
923.2
925.1
924.6

So nice consistent I thought. Ok time to fill her up!

200bar:

880.1
880.7
879.6
881.1

WTF???????

So I raised the speed to 950 fps. Yes quite high, but my overal best results shot whit MY matador, were between 930 and 980fps!

I don’t have enough pellets and air to test further on the chrony, but I’ll go to the range tomorrow. I expect it will group better then before! Maybe the speed was too low for the reg? Or the reg too high (140bar vs mine is at 130 bar)..?

HmmzzZ…
tomorrow I’ll do the chrony work..

Came from the shooting range again and.. sometimes I manage to get a reasonably group, but most of the time NOT..

Benchrested it and almost the same.. POI difference in height..

Let me see what the chrony says..
