Q:

who wants to try to predict the future?

so i received my USED .25 Condor a few days ago and finally had some time to shoot her…

drew around 5 shot groups

OK so my “bench” is a Rubber Made trash can, the bag rests are from Dick’s and i sit on an old speaker….

its 27 frick’n yards!! these Kodiaks should stack!

so i started looking a Little closer…

a little CLOSER…

clip the baffle much?

OK, lets tear it down and see… rattle rattle.

WTF?

pull the Silencer off… rattle rattle.

so, back to the title… who wants to try to predict tomorrows groups?

again, use my finger as reference for the 2 shots, i turn the barrel 180 but DIDNT move my finger.

close up of the “2-sided” set:

uggg.

this ISNT pretty!!

(taking pix)

MetalHead too

I’m thinking new bushings may fix the problem. Does anyone here make them? Maybe tony can make a couple…

The barrel has 2 dimples in it. Take the bushings off and make sure the two set screws go into the dimples on the barrel.

.

ok these shots will do 2 things:

-show how much play is in the barrel (bushing’s undersized O.D. compared to frame’s I.D.)

-show that the barrel and TopHat can never align

making things worst:

making things BEST:

now, if i spin the barrel in the frame i can get it to align better but the setscrew’s dont line up with the collar holes 😕

Did you get to try EJ 43grs. yet? Supposedly they don’t fit in “your” particular gun or so says the previous owner.

yes i did (check back on page 1 about 11 post ago) and they “can” fit but it takes A LOT of work to get them in and PW@1 , 2500psi isnt enough to get them OUT the barrel 😕

its tough to get perspective on these but in “real life” they look about as “off” as in this pic:

r60us,

ive tried to roll the tank to see if the stem is bent and it looks good but i cant say for sure.

ive tried to roll the barrel (like rolling a bar pool cue on the table to see if its “straight”) but again, this technique is basically worthless.

BUT

what i really dont like are the collars on he barrel:

NOTE: my finger is on the SAME spot on the barrel in BOTH shots, just rotated the barrel 180

EDIT:

ok it hit me how to see if the barrel and stem align…

.

from the video… How about bent stem that holds the tophat?

Yeah, that looks messed up. Very little concentricity there. How about if you remove the breech, does the barrel line up with the tank? Maybe you just need a new breech?

That’s a good idea. Take the whole thing apart and put it back together without the breech or any of that. Then get another picture so we can see if the barrel is off or just a crappy breech.

this is looking @ the breech pushed all the way “back” (toward the tank) but with the tank removed so that the breech is hitting the frame.

i KNOW angles distort this but look @ “11: 00” compared to “5: 00”

here is a video of opening and closing the breech 1-handed

80 GRIT,

No Problem man!!

all i “know” is what ive read, and what ive read is 800-900 is about the fastest “accurate” speed.

now we ALL know this is VERY dependent on pellet, gun, wind and about 100 other things so take it with a “shaker” of salt.

i really need to get some heavier pellets… get’m down around 875-925

i’ll try to lower the power and shoot some 800-900 fps groups tomorrow as well as a few without the shroud.

Wasn’t trying to “Jack your thread”…I noticed that you said you wanted to get them traveling slower, so I became curious and hoped for enlightenment. Thanks.

To continue with some minor thread jacking, there is a range below the sound barrier where the pellet begins to get unstable, as it gets close to the barrier. But, if it shoots accurately, leave it there. 🙂

Joey, go to the local lowes store and get some silicone grease. Just ask, it’s somewhere in the plumbing are and is a little container about an inch across and gray. This is the same as diver’s silicone, get some of that and slap it on teh barrel where the breech rides. Maybe that’ll do something?

Dry breech O-ring

that is the case, (no diver’s lube yet)

BUT

its waaaay more than that:

the breech hits the top hat.
the breech “sags” down and to the left so i as i put pressure on the breech knob (to close it) with my right hand, i need to use my left thumb to push the breech “up and to the right” to get the hole in the breech even close to lined up with the TopHat… so all this is going on long before the topHat gets anywhere near the (dry) O-ring.

sigh

let me try to get a picture or video

.

Oh well, sounds odd. I can not see how that is happening. It does not sound good. Please keep us updated
