Jerry’s slugs
Hi all,
I got Jerry’s slugs last week and could not wait to try them. They made my 43’s look like babies. Today I shot the 6 ring slugs at a 1 and a half inch board at 24 yards, and it went through and hit the concrete block behind and mushroomed to 3/4 of an inch. I’m not sure about anyone else, but it seemed that my condor sounded a lot quieter. Maybe because of the size of the slug. The 43’s hit hard a make a huge impact when they hit. I have not used a chrony yet and I’m curious to see the velocity. They did shoot bullseye every shot at 24 yards. If anyone has any info on there chrony and experience please do tell.

Been a very long time since on the forum or even the computor in general. With work and then buying a new house and having to find time to move is at best a beastly thing to get done…
Still not through moving, but did find time to troll the web and always love reading here on this forum…
Jerrys slugs are great stuff and I have even been lucky enough to get to try some of the experimental .22 slugs he did way back when… They just had issues that was going to be hard to make consistant when sizing… Least that was the last I had recalled…
Now the .25’s are great and fine to say the least Just a little large for most of my shooting… Still have not got back on the modding of my already custom Condor from hell LOL… I need to work over the valve more to really make use of the 6 ring slugs to the speeds I want them at…
Would like to point out one think I have not read here on this thread to maybe make sense of the shots made on one Robohog… Guys I have filled my Condor many times to have the first one or even two shots not be of the more normal consistant shots it settles into after those first couple shots…
In other words the first couple shots can end up as a pooch shot at best, so not sure if this might have been considered or not??? I could have read over it as I was speed reading through this thread… Just thoought I would offer up what I have had happen so many times if not really careful when filling my tanks… Even with the E-Tac I use on a 800 something cc tank I have on the Condor…
Jerry, you do ever get the itch to make the 4 and or 5 ring slugs, I would sure be in for some of those myself, as I am one of the guys that would be willing to pay for the double the price of the same weight or close too, of the EJ’s…

No, I’m embarrassed to say I haven’t, after that failed attempt with the Combro. If I can ever get out to Walt’s house I’d do it, but I’m coaching every weekend and have little free time. Tungsten carbide penetrator—yeah, if it’ll work on tank armor, it’ll work on hogs!
I don’t think a thin cap will help. A tungsten penetrator embedded might work!
I don’t think there is a penetration deficiency. Shot at high power, the slugs have penetrated all manner of stuff. A lot of the initial posts from new users mention the slugs going through stuff or their needing a new backstop.
Have you chronied your gun yet?
Think of this, would you rather of Air create the perfect frontal cone or Material ? That is why dome pellets are truer than pointed pellets, as the Air is closer to perfection.

I’ve been thinking about this and wonder if it would work. What if there was a small pointed steel or aluminum “cap” that could be attached to the rounded end of your very excellent slugs. Maybe it could be attached with a tiny dab of epoxy or construction adhesive. With all the slug’s weight focused on a steel point, wouldn’t the slug penetrate deeper into whatever medium it hit? It would be time consuming and possibly expensive to retrofit these, but maybe it would pay off as a dedicated hunting slug for punching through bone and hide on larger animals. The steel or aluminum cap would have to be slightly smaller than .25″ in diameter, so as not to engage the rifling, and not so big that it would screw up the flight path of the slug. I’d like to experiment with this but can’t think up where I would get such a pointed “cap”. Anybody have any ideas for what I could use?
Actaually guys my bone stock condor 22 cal was hitting 66 fpe with eun jins. i wanted mor stopping power so went to 25 cal. 114 fpe.
We don’t have a power limit, I’m trying to get hold of a .22 barrel and then I’ll see what power I’m getting out of my rifle. I will look into that valve you mentioned-thanx.
If South Africa doesn’t have fpe limits like the UK, you can still up your power in .22 by getting an Extreme valve from R & L airguns. I bought one [$75 US] and used it with good effect on that hog. They just send the brass insert and a small installation tool, so it wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg to ship it to you. In a 24″ barreled .22, you’d probably have well over 60 fpe. Norgeiron
Dammit you guys are lucky, I’m green with envy. Until fairly recently we needed a fire arms licence for any calibre larger than .177. .20 wasn’t available and .22 was consisdered a fire arm. Luckily due to a loophole, we now have .22 as our largest calibre allowed without the hassles of applying for a licence. What I would give to convert my Condor to .25 or larger calibre. They’re not Robohogs—-I just hit that dude too low on the forehead. When I hit the other one two weeks ago, I aimed higher on the forehead, and with Jerry’s 6 ring slug at 10 yards it was an instant kill. Haven’t been out hunting since, though—-wife’s birthday was this weekend, and you know I gotta come through for that occasion or I’m in the doghouse big time. Took her to a fancy hotel in Waikiki and had a good time.
