.22 LR vs. .22/25 Bp ( of any kind)
There´s been lots of talk whether an airgun in .22/25/30 beats an .22 LR in accuracy to 50,75 and/or 100 meters ( or yards) so i´d like to add a new thread where we can compare group sizing on those aforementioned rifles/distances to get out something more than assumptions and biased quesses out of it. I. myself, have been leaned towards to airguns – at least up to 50m. but i´m no longer all too sure about that. i love my EdGun but when the groups get all that much tighter with my .22 LR i´m beginning to wonder….

Got out to shoot at 82 meter (91 yards) range at my friends house today. Rimfire .22 LR again while waiting the WST. Did OK with training ammo (Norma 2, SK Std Plus) despite the winds that got worse by the minute. I really want to get to stretch things out at 100-150 meters and try things with match ammo. That means high-end Lapua in my case…

The last ten shot group at 82m and you can clearly see what picking winds do to the size of a group.
Three conclusions :
1 – It´s so much funnier to shoot at greater distance than 50m.
2 – When the range opens up, even with measly 32m, the wind factor increases fast.
3 – I NEED to get to 100 + meter distances. This is FUN !
Bingo! Discovered that too. RF ammo is the weak link. You say you shoot 10x´s? I´ve actually never tried those in my Quad. It shoots one hole (not one ragged hole but like one bullet hole) groups with all Lapua but i mostly feed it with Midas + when it´s competition time or so. Maybe i should try 10x´s just for the sake of it … My Finnfire sure likes them – both Match and Tenex.
On another note i´m in a process of buying a Sako TRG 42 in .338 Lapua. Those damned rounds cost 6-7$ a pop so i´ll have to start to load my own cartridges and get that price to cut under half of that by doing so. At least i´ll be able to control the quality of the cartridges – which unfortunately can´t be done with RF rounds. Too bad really …
I´ve even tried weighing and scaling/sizing the bullets and measuring the rim thicknesses. NOT worth the effort. It´s just like with air gunning – it´s a RF thing. You´re either lucky and get a good batch of bullets/pellets or not. Do you feel lucky,Punk .. ? 
I shoot 5 shot groups, that’s what the magazine holds. Some guys won’t use a magazine, but I haven’t found it to be any less accurate. The inconsistency in .22lr ammo is what determines accuracy the most…… Weight, rim thickness, concentricy, ect.
When you guys refer to “groups” exactly how many shots do you mean by that?? I always shoot either 5’s or 10’s for grouping.

I just got a .25 Cricket, I won’t get to shoot it till I get home in a couple weeks, I can only pray it would shoot as good as my Anschutz 64MPR. I can shoot 2.5″ groups at 250 yds with my .22lr. It will shoot .125″ – .250″ groups all day long at 50 yds off a bench with Eley match. I have shot thousands of rounds through this gun with addition of barrel tuner, trigger adjustments, and some tinkering to get to this point. How much tinkering, polishing, adjusting, pellet sorting, ect are you guys doing to get .5″ to 1″ groups at 100 yds with your air rifles?
Holy mama! 2.9mm ain´t half bad at 80 yrds/72 meters. My best group lately with the .22LR was 4.85mm/5 shots/50 meters/55 yrds.

I have a Condor with an R&L Extreme valve and plan on adding a .257 Haley barrel from R&L when they get the Lyman cast standard worked out where I don’t have to do any casting but can have a somewhat accurate longer range gun. I will need plenty of forum assistance when I get to that project. 🙂

But I am now castin for the .257 Talon/Dor and it shot a .090 group the other day. (Thats 2.29MM) at 80 yards. Best it has done. But under 1/2 inch is normal. (12.7mm).
And this with a heavier, and better BC bullet than a .22 LR. It is shooting 54 gr. 74gr. and 81 gr. bullets presently. 😀

A little history on Ville, his wife and two daughters….
Ville’s wife was visiting Finland, shopping for a house pet, when she noticed an African Green Parrot for only 25 Euros.

Then Ville’s two daughters came home. The bird looked at them and said “New house, new madam, new girls!” After explaining the bird’s history, all the girls had a good laugh.
Promptly at 6:00 PM, Ville arrives home, comes into the kitchen smiling. The bird takes a quick look at him and says…”Hi Ville!”

There were scared the Fed would ban all things firearm, in all likelyhood the 22LR cartridge would be the last to be banned. I sold all my 22LR rifles and ammo (SK brand, most of the 22LR ammo produced is total shit). I think most pellet rifles can outperform the cartridge at a fraction of the operating costs and the ammo rarely runs out or gets so expensive that it isn’t worth even buying it (did I mention that most of it is shit?). I had a nice rifle too, the ammo makes tons of mess to clean, had to totally disassemble everything every time I got home from the range.
I prefer to push my 22 caliber rounds (boat tail projectiles, flat assed ammo is worthless) via a 223 case with a real primer at real powder burner velocities.
And I reload. Did someone say ammo shortage? Shit, not for me. 😉
