.22 short shooters?

I have about 1K invested on my 10/22 and I don’t use it. I want to convert it to .22 short with a kit from Volquartzen. My question is on ammo. The only rounds I’ve shot are CCI CB’s that go about 730fps, now Ive seen shorts that say anywhere from that to 1100. I want a nice quiet round that I could shoot all day like the CB’s at 730fps. Any suggestions, yes I would like more power, but not at the price of pissing people off.
How can they get a short to fire at over 1000fps when the bullet weighs the same as the CB bullet? Or could it be marked on the website as Short when its actually LR.
I did see some CCI’s that go 830fps which I may buy because I cant imagine they are too much louder, but could be wrong.
The weight on most I’ve found, if curious, is about 29gr.

The 1-9 barrel is what i have on my 10-22. The Aguila SSS ammo sucks to me. Its ok in a barrel with a 1-16 twist but in my 1-9 barrel, it shoots like buckshot. But it is fun to shoot in my old remington bolt action .22. But the CCI Subsonics is all i shoot and the are tackdriver in the 1-9 barrel and they also shoot really well outta my bolt action
CB Caps work great for dropping an occasional tree rat in the back yard, I shoot them through an old Marlin bolt action .22 I do have to say, I get a lot tighter group then that with mine,But they are much louder then my RWS 48. Since I bought my Talon SS, I parked the powder burner in the closet along with my RWS 🙂
while searching for the Aquila ammo online I found there are barrels especially for the sss round. They have a 1:9 twist, will the accuracy be good enough with the standard .22 twist? Also I thought a slower projectile needed more twist?
Found one place that has some SS ammo, but they don’t know what kind, I’m going to go get it just for noise test. Ill have to order the Agulia.
I was thinking just regular standard hunting/plinking rounds. White box/plastic packs.

You aren’t talking about the winchester super-x target ammo that is at standard velocity are you?
If so, that crap is NOT subsonic. I chrony’d it at 1250fps. They lie! But accuracy was OK, it just ticked me off that I couldn’t shoot it in my backyard.
What about the big sewer pipe Ruger has been putting on them for years, have they broken off?

How long would a sporter barrel have to be to equal the weight of a bull barrel 10-22?

I think you have to consider not just the weight, but the weight in relation to distance from the barrel. People with 16″ bull barrels have to worry about adjustable v-blocks. sticking a sporter wieght twice that distance from the action and v-block will obviously put more stress on the v-block and action
The standard velocities make a respectable klank, when hitting the steel plate @ 100 yards. You barely hear the mini-mags, and haft ta watch the plate with Stingers.
If you can find the winchester super-X sub sonic’s, try a box.
If you try the CB’s, it may take 10 or 20 rounds for the chamber to seal. The Remington CB long rifles I tried, you could see burned powder blow back on the first few hulls, and I saw them hit/fall short of the target. All Clean barrel first shots fell short/underpowered. The following shots come up to expectation. What I learned was the CB’s shoot better in a fouled barrel.
Mamcracking had to explain this to me, they don’t make enough pressure to seal the chamber, the burned primer, fouling in the chamber, seals the cartridge.
So the first CB shots are not going to be what you expect, maybe after 10 or so. So I recommend shooting 8 or 10, maybe then the bolt will cycle as normal.

I had the same problem with the cci subsonics. It is strange, they don’t seem long, but it definitely happens. If you jam the bolt closed, they work. And they are absolutely devastating on squirrels. They will tear half of the squirrel’s head off.
CCI standard velocity don’t destroy stuff as much, but they do feed like they should. And only 30fps faster than the subsonics.
Sounds good to me, never used Aguila, but have read good things about them.

Don’t use “CCI Sub Sonic’s”, they won’t feed, if you fire one. bolt will not close on the next one! They’re a bitch to load in my 452, no problem ejecting um?
You have been warned, try another brand. You’ll have better luck with Remington’s, but I don’t recommend them either. Close the chamber on A CCi subsonic, then eject it. You’ll see rifling marks on the lead, no problem firing, Problem is not enough bolt closing pressure to force the bullet that deep into the bore?
Thus the bolt will not close, not good, possible open bolt discharge!

I was at one in Wisconsin that only had the CB’s. Ill check the one here.
I think wal mart has some, i just glanced in the case , but i think.

The only thing I could find was CCI subsonic @1050fps. They were loud to me, and I think they travel to close to the speed of sound, I swear some of them were not sub sonic. Still no luck finding a used 452 Ultra-Lux.
