Air Arms Rifles: Which one do you have experience with
I have noticed that many own AA rifles, or have experience with them. Which one do you own, (Rob probably has a safe dedicated to AA airguns 😀 ). The XTRA FAC has great stats but it is so long at 44 inches. The carbine is sexy at 35″ and 5 lbs.. The Classic is a good compromise but is louder. So, if you don’t mind me asking, which do you own, or have owned, and what do you think of it? Also what do you do with it? (Look at it, hunt, target, etc..)

Thanks Iceman for sharing your experiences and pics. Those are beautiful examples. Cygnus X had mentioned swapping out the tanks, but I didn’t think of being able to swap out barrells also. Is barrell swapping something that can be done in the garage, or does it take an airgun smith to do that? Thanks again, it’s good to hear such consistant reports about good accuracy.

I had AA in different “flavors” S400 / S400C / S410C and all of them had one thing in common….accuracy!
The classic with carbine barrel look something like this – ideal for f.t / hft. You can also do this conversion to the extra fac and slap on a classic barrel if you want even more shots and still want to keep it down to a reasonable length.
I will be honest with you and say that my thoughts were how embarrassed I am going to be walking onto a field target course with a gun like this and getting my butt kicked by a slick dude shooting a rig worth one fourth of the price.. It is nice to have people say cool things about the gun though..
I use both the anti cant and the scope level. It is sort of a double check that I have gotten use to. depending on which position I am shooting from, one can glace at the of two a little easier than the other.

Here is a photo of the knee riser that comes with the gun. It will give me about a 2 inch extension.

Mr. Wilson, that’s some gorgeous rig you have there. You know what, I find the EV-2 the best looking among all the dedicated FT rifles also. AA obviously paid attention to details e.g. that curb feeler there 😉
Question: do you need both anti-cant levels or you find it easier to use the one on top? Does AA have a knee rest or you have to get an after market one?

Clarification
The Talon SS with baffles is quieter.
The Talon is very loud
The AF Talon is not quieter than the AA S400 series rifles. It doesn’t even come close!
I’ll chime in here and say that these are nice rifles. My only real complaints are the thin ass bluing that rusts and scratches easy and plastic OE mags.
I think mine is quiet as hell, though does get a little louder when the pressure gets low. All I hear is ping—->thwack. Seein as how I’m plannin on gettin an AF sometime in the future, I am encouraged by the comment that the Talon is quieter.
My rings are a little shorter than Adams’. I think with anything over a 30mm tube, you need a little taller mount.

Thanks Adam for the info. While I might play with reduced power just to see what it will do, like you, I enjoy the full power. I just love tapping on a rats shoulder with a .22 cal. CP at 830 fps from 24 feet. 😈 I imagine what 900+ fps with greater accuracy will do.
As I have said before…I shoot at ridiculously short distances. I am hoping that having the scope mounted significantly closer to the axis of the bore will allow me to zero at that close range. I noticed that the pic of your Classic shows it with high rings. It appears that you could have used shorter rings if you had wanted to.

The the other name for the Classic is the “H” model
My is not velocity adjustable and is balls to the wall. It is NOT as quiet as a Talon SS.

I wish there were a few air gunners around here. I would love to try different guns. I’ve been leaning toward a Rapid or Air Ranger. But I do like the AA’s.
The Super-10 looks like a nice gun, but I’ve never heard a thing about them.
What about the HW 100. I hear it accurate!
