Q:

Damn, but I’m good.

I made a revision to my valve design. Knocked out the body a few days ago, got the stem done today.

It glides in the body like silk, yet when I suck on it it pulls the stem up, and I cannot blow air past it. No o-ring required.

I am a lathing and milling god. Anyone want to buy one? I fancy a holiday in Argentina.

My rat-smellin’ SAM-launch alert-radar is squawking at me from all speakers. WAH WAH WAH!!! 😆

I’ll take one along to Blod’s party if he’s interested and let him have a look, just for shits and giggles. Let the valve-master evaluate it.

GTBJ, I’ll get me hands on one of the new valves and get it to you for testing…. 😉

Sweet, just let me know when, I’ll be ready to give a fair and honest review.

Somthing about different kinds of head! 😆 Yep, we already have a heavier hamer and spring + tha ability to adjust the spring tension higher or lower.

This is why I think your valve might be popular here. A lot of us enjoy bench shooting almost as much as hunting. But we just about have to shoot at full power to keep the tune correct. It takes a while to get it right. Especially the hammer strike. By changing only the top hat, this would be eliminated. A hell of a lot cheaper than having to have two different rifles and set-up for pleasure and hunting!

Now give us head! 😯 Errrrr, I mean the L-Heald! 😀

Ultra-fine precision is a joy to behold and an even finer joy to create. There is one potential problem though: fouling. I once had a rifle with a bolt that was machined to a very close tolerance. A bit of something got in the gap between the bolt and the bore it rides in and made a difficult to clear jam. All ended well but it was a bother for a bit.

Can the valve be well protected from fine debris? Maybe a looser fit and a forgiving o-ring would be a better solution for a field rifle?

That’s a very sound observation.

Yes Knifemaker, I know where Blod is at, I’ve been to visit him at his home. His valve is the bollocks (that means ‘very good’), but it has the problem of incurring a prison sentence if found on a rifle belonging to somebody who does not have a FAC licence. Such a person, however, might be going to countries where the full-power rifle is permitted. In such a case he’d have to own two valves, low-power for the UK and high-power for abroad. Not only is that an additional expense, it’s also a pain in the arse.

My design has an interchangeable head, which can be swapped in seconds, without the need to remove the bottle from the rifle. I’ve tested both heads at varying PSI and the low-power head gives no more than 11fpe.

I can see no reason why anyone in the USA would need that facility, given the availibility of the power-adjustable Condor and no legal limit.

True that! Unless we get Obamaized over here! I can feel it in the air!

Is the same valve interchanbeable between .177 and .22 calibres?
I might be intetested depending on the cost.

The only difference between a .177 and .22 Talon is the barrel. You’d need a more restrictive head for the .177, otherwise your pellets would be melting before they left the muzzle. 😆

I haven’t thought much about prices for this model, but I’ve been selling my previous ones here in the UK for £100 a pop. I don’t think the exchange-rate is much of a goer for you colonials though. You’d also need a stronger spring and heavier hammer, unless the US-spec rifles already have those as standard.

Blod would be in some serious trouble otherwise.

It’s not as far as i can interprate the VCR bill illeagal to produce.
Much as an OX type spring for a springer isn’t illeagal.
It becomes illeagal once it’s fitted and the gun is proved to be over power.
Pluss to be on the safe side, i put only a fraction of movment on the tophat so as to gauruntee power to be much much less than is the leagal limit.
I gauruntee sites such as these are moniterd by the authoritys, and i and many others would’ve had there collers felt by now if there were a breach of the law.
But since Brad is now in controll of producing the valves, i cant see a problem anyway.
Later big crazy dude.

21gr Bisley Mags, 3000psi, 10-shot string, went from highest 1089fps to lowest 1054fps.

Took a spacer out, 2750psi, 10-shot string, highest 953fps to lowest 940fps.

As 950fps seems to be the most accurate velocity for these pellets I’d say the job’s a good’un. 😀

First shot at 1900psi, 1012fps. I’m particularly pleased with that because on this model I’ve made the rod onto which screws the Delrin seal 3mm dia instead of 2mm dia. The 2mm has been giving me trouble with keeping the seal attatched, but I figured it needed to be that thin to allow enough air through the aperture (which is 4mm). I didn’t expect it to fly, but so far it has. 😀

No reason why not, Its just a case of using a restrictive grub nut in the top as opposed to the full open one( its used to hold the top hat at the height you want.
Difference with Langs is that to change power takes about five seconds, to a predetermined power output with no other adjustments. With the BN valve, you have to take the bottle off, unscrew the open grub nut, put in the restrictive grub nut, then adjust the tophat to match new grubnut. Also works great, just takes longer.
I also use a BN valve and its very good.
I like the multiple, near instant power choices the Lang valve gives me….( few more head choices would be nice though Lang!-hint-)

Does Blob still make them with interchangeable inserts to vary the power?

When Brad comes out with a valve will it have the interchangeable inserts?

Thats what I was wondering as well.. was my understanding that Blod was doing that, but somewhere along the line, he started doing the hopped up ones… that or I misunderstood…

If you are making such valves, please get with me offline regarding one.

What kind of shot count are you getting at 11.5fpe?

Rob, never counted. I use the 11.5 hat for plinking and letting my daughter have a go. I would say I’ve shot at least 100 without seeing a drop.

Nice….

I’m getting around 80-90 in .177 at 14fpe with a restrictive spring retainer from Tony… Just put a 22 barrel on now and am looking at shot count… would guess near 100 at roughly 14fpe…. but without a gauge, bit hard to tell.

Of course, one doesnt have the ability to go up in power as quickly… but still the restrictive spring retainer has done very, very well… and if I need more power, I grab another gun.

I only test up to 20 shots, because I never use more than that on a hunt. I test for consistency and I’ve not had a valve yet that varied by more than around 10fps between shots.

Anyway, here’s the pic of the bits. I’ll be testing it later.
