Q:

EDgun Matador, caliber .30, second generation.

Dear friends,

Some of you has problems with the valves on these guns. I have to confess that is my fault. The point is that I made heavier hammer in order to get more power, but left the valve rod the same diameter, 2 mm. So, when the hammer impact the valve, its inertion doesn’t allow the valve to move properly “forward and back” and the rod has too strong force and due to that force can curve.

Once again, that is my fault as the designer and engeneer of this gun. Sorry for that. I’ve ordered new 3 mm. hardened, polished rods (to tell you truth that is a kind of quest to find them, there is no one in Russia, I’ve ordered them from EU and they promissed me to deliver them in February). As soon as I have them I will make new valves and the valve guide to change in the back plug. I think that is quite easy operation which can be done by owner himself. Besides I will make a vid for that.

Sorry for that disadvantage, as you say “He is lifeless that is faultless.”

I will do my best to solve it as soon as possible.

With the best regards

Ed

Which “excellent” Edgun do you currently own and shoot again? :fishinghole:

objectively: the Matador R3 .30 is unreliable

Historically correct but currently misleading. With the new 3mm valves I have had no issues nor do I recall anyone else having issues since the update. More time is needed but as of today it looks like a very reliable solution relative to the previous 2mm valve. Is that your reference point?

Actually I was referring to your expression “Overall I think Edguns are excellent”. Currently I don’t own any edgun and won’t till something new AND RELIABLE will come out.

Just in case, concerning owning and commenting, I think a lot of Americans speak and comment about football but I don’t know how many of them commenting actually own a football team.

“Historically correct etc. etc.”, are the R3 .30 currently coming with the new 3mm plastic valve or do they need the “first fix out of the box”? (Speaking about reliability and historically)

If they come with the new 3mm plastic valve then let’s see how long they will last before they break but I don’t believe much long since Ed anticipated that valves now became “service parts”. (Again, speaking about current reliability and robustness of the R3 .30)

The parts should break. Thanks to that you need to buy new parts during the whole gun lifetime. You buy a subscription and this is better for the manufacturer to increase the income.

Ok but if you want to base your income on parts and services then sell the gun cheaper like everybody else basing the activity on services does…

At this point I would say:

– objectively: the Matador R3 .30 is unreliable

– subjectively: “Overall I think Edguns are excellent”

We all know there is no perfect gun and there is no mechanical tool that doesn’t have the potential to fail but probably stainless steel parts have less potential to fail than plastic ones specially if the part is “on heavy duty”.

What does it cost to a manufacturer to make an “almost” unbreakable part such a valve for example by using proper materials? 10 USD?

How many of you would be willing to pay 10 USD more for their gun just for piece of mind?

The “breakage” can still happen but it should be “unexpected”, certainly a plastic part on heavy duty will not be “unexpected” to break.

Yes it’s true, lessons have been learned and it is once again a testimonial on how much you love your edguns by turning a blind eye on engineering mistakes.

I really do consider the valve a wear item considering the environment and forces it is subjected to. Beat on it with high pressure and HST any valve has the potential to fail. Design it weak and it will fail..quickly… like the .30 valves. Not all .30’s failed, granted, but enough did to create an inflection point for change and a whole crap ton of posts on TAG about the issue. It got sorted out.

Overall I think Edguns are excellent; well thought out and well engineered but mistakes are made and eventually fixed. Lessons are learned and applied…3mm valves for all .30’s now + improved efficiency!

My suggestion is to ship each new Edgun with a spare valve just for this reason. If someone shoots 4-6K rounds and busts a valve (example) then a spare ready to go for another 4-6K. No need to seek one out. For some that is a lifetime for other’s that is a year.. maybe less! :suprisedn: Edguns are easy to work on so why not?

PS I also have spare valves!

Spare parts are always good, please don’t misunderstand me…

But how many of you are driving around with a spare steering wheel just because the one you currently have is likely to break very soon?

Does anybody know if the Leshiy will come with regular barrels or plastic barrels?

I would rather like to know before I get “possessed” by one. 😀

Ville was right when he was saying that edguns today are “after-engineered”, meaning designed by negative customer feedback

(Cmon keyser, now that you are an official dealer please don’t take every comment on edgun personally, actually a plastic barrel would be a “world news” and they don’t rust, just another service part, following the trend very soon we will have a “biodegradable edgun”, 100% green, green like the dollars you pay for the gun, when you say you get what you pay for …)

Situational awareness is a good thing. Observations can be subjective or objective. I think we have a little of both. Having been on the non-working end of an Edgun I can certainly appreciate some the observations being put forth. :2cents:

If designed and mfg correctly a 3mm polymer valve should hold up very well. I don’t have an Edgun mfg valve in my .30 but my out sourced valve seems to be holding up pretty well. For how long I do not know. For the time being I am able to enjoy my rifle and haven’t had to take it apart for a few weeks! What a blessing!

Everyoone knows that Pippo is obsessed or rather possessed.

you seem oddly obsessed with a gun that you don’t own :3:

I see, a “workaround”, replace the valve regularly till the warranty expires and then bye-bye.

Probably the owners have just to remove the adjective “reliable” when they advertise their gun for selling….

Now I understand the description of the gun on the website “The improved model of multiply charged rifle “Matador” will save time on recharging. The number of shots per one filling not less than x (if the valve doesn’t break before)”

Probably under the rail Ed has now added also a valve holder…., that would be a huge improvement…

Did somebody of you guys pay with “Monopoly Money”? This would explain the current situation…

But you guys just forget about the Matador. Throw it in the trash bin like I did with mine, the Leshiy next generation gun is coming.

That 3 mm valve is still a plastic one.

I got my parts in last night… Thank you Ed for getting this out. 😀

This is great news, even though we’ve reached the paradox by thanking for something that is A MUST.

Actually Ed should thank all his customers for having been so patient after all these troubles and after having spent all that cash in good faith….

(Ed didn’t one or two T-shirts find their place in the parcel? 😀 )

(OK at least the promise you will forget about doing plastic valves and do more thorough testing next time….)

I got my parts in last night with the new 3mm valve and rear part of the reg to just plug and play!! Going to get it all put together in the next week when im off work and get some shot strings going!! will let you know how it all go’s. Thank you Ed for getting this out. 😀
