EDgun Matador, caliber .30, second generation.

Some of you has problems with the valves on these guns. I have to confess that is my fault. The point is that I made heavier hammer in order to get more power, but left the valve rod the same diameter, 2 mm. So, when the hammer impact the valve, its inertion doesn’t allow the valve to move properly “forward and back” and the rod has too strong force and due to that force can curve.
Once again, that is my fault as the designer and engeneer of this gun. Sorry for that. I’ve ordered new 3 mm. hardened, polished rods (to tell you truth that is a kind of quest to find them, there is no one in Russia, I’ve ordered them from EU and they promissed me to deliver them in February). As soon as I have them I will make new valves and the valve guide to change in the back plug. I think that is quite easy operation which can be done by owner himself. Besides I will make a vid for that.
Sorry for that disadvantage, as you say “He is lifeless that is faultless.”
I will do my best to solve it as soon as possible.

Don’t you have a pellet spiralling at the speed of 900 FPS?
Ok here is the fix. You need a 3 mm valve stem that weighs around 14.5-15 grms. The regulator needs to be set around 140-145 BAR. You need a 500 gram hammer and the sear to be tuned to handle the extra weight of that hammer. The speed you desire for the 44.75 JSB is around 880. This will turn your EDgun into a long range monster. I have no problem hitting targets at 200-250 yards with that set up.
This is the fix that should have happened sooner than later but now your R3 Gen 1 will be the EDgun it was meant to be. Trust me, you won’t be sorry and no more busted valves!
Interesting. Mine was shooting faster (high 800s/low900s) but that was with the hammer spring really cranked, and it seemed like that was overstressing things, so I went to the low 800s. But mine is also a long, which probably gives me a more latitude on the speed.
There is not fix from Ed for the 1st gen, send your gun to John Haggan, he has built a new hammer and a bigger/strong 3mm valve stem, this is the last update from John

I’ve kind of lost track of this. What, if anything, should a Gen 1 owner be thinking about here? I have a gen1 that is shooting fine, although tuned to the lower end of the speed range (low 800s) and probably a lower shot count than many others here. If there is a way to make it better (less likely to fail, able to better handle a higher speed, more efficient, etc.), I would like to do so. At one point, I thought there was going to be replacement parts for both gen 1 and Gen 2; reading the recent parts of this thread, it looks like only parts for Gen2. Can someone give me a summary of what the situation is for Gen 1 owners? Thx
. The main difference is how the regulator attaches through the action and air tube. If you watch my R3 .30 review video or the EDgun R3 .30 “problems” video you’ll see how the Gen 2 is different than the Gen 1. The Gen 1 plug is the same as the standard Matador.
By “back plug” do you mean the complete front valve housing or just the brass sleeve the valve stem rides in?

That part rounded with red. So, it will be back plug and the valve. You just take the old out and install the new one with the new valve. That’s it.

Is the Gen 1 .30 “back plug” the same as the .25 Matador? If so then what are the differences between Gen 1 and Gen 2 housings?

I am one very happy man !! Thanks to keyser for for letting us .30 cal owners no about this and all the effort he went to get John hagon to help if we were stuck. And thanks to ED for addressing the problem and fixing this !!! The .30 cal matador has been my favourite gun to date :8:

I understand that it took me long time to organize everything and some of you could think I left you alone with the problem. I know that I don’t visit TAG quite often due to heavy working schedule, due to the pour English which doesn’t allow me just to glide over the text to understand everything like I do in English and someone could think that is because I am out of the issue. But that is not true. I know the problem, I try to find the best way to solve it and it just take time. A little patience and everything is solved. I appretiate those who had patience and Ii completely understand those who hadn’t. At he end, I hope everybody will be satisfied.
I shot 3 R3 .30 standard with 3 mm valves yesterday and I found them working verey nice.

Only for 2nd gen. as the first has the same plug as Matador R3M.
Ed is the new Plug/valve housing going to work for both, 1gen and 2gen or its just for the 2 gen only?

Just curious as I have a spare .25 Maddy housing in bound as a back up for my Gen 1. More spare’s the better!
So really the only difference is how the breach gets screwed to the housing (from the bottom up). No difference in valve inlet diameter, outlet diameter or brass sleeve hole ID. Well, let me take that back…..the outlet port diameter may be smaller on the .25 vs .30 but could be opened up if needed?
John is hooking me up with a new hammer and I already have the valve stems. I should be up and running shortly :8: Christmas in March!
