Just ordered a Short one
From Tony, it should arrive in 2 weeks or so after he test shoots it.
I can’t wait, in the mean time what to crown the little one with, a Bug buster ?

Some tips on weeding out some possible fliers, seems to work with all non-spring loaded mags guns.
I shake load the mags press pellets down and give the mag a firm slap on my open palm.
The ones that don’t fall forwards into the mags are punch out and reloaded for one that do.
I save the imperfect ones in a separate tin and use them for plinking or crony work.

I also have been filling to a lower pressure, it seems to help tighten up and improve grouping consistency throughout the fill.
My guess is that it’s minimizes the AT expansion and movements that can cause POI shifting.
For JSB 18g I fill to 230 bar and set HST to send it out @ 815 fps and get 3 mags down to 135 bar.
For JSB 16g I fill to 220 bar and set HST to send it out @ 842 fps and get 3 mags down to 135 bar.
The German barrel on mines seem to be lot sensitive and didn’t like JSB 18g batch 8/2015, but the 16g are nail drivers.
I’ll be checking more lots as I shoot ………. …. ..
The Ballistol seems to have a hard time with all that excess factory lube that gets blown out of the AT and gets fused onto the bore.
I switched back to Otis 085 Ultra Bore Solvent and it has been holding accuracy longer between cleanings, even after shooting 2 tins of 500 ct pellets.

It can’t be beat pulled though with a PatchWorm cleaning system.

Also, the gauge on my Shorty reads about 15 bars less then the gauge on my tank.
Polished the hammer spring and cleaned out the channel housing with denatured alcohol.
Added a bit of Moly grease on the cocking lever ball bearing.
All in all made for a smoother cocking effort.
This little one needs all the help it can get, being harder to shoot well then my Cricket 22 std but just as accurate.
So I also lighten the trigger pull down to about 7 oz and balanced the second stage weight with the linkage arm weight.
On a good day temporarily mounted with a Hawke Sport Optics 6.5-20x42, I’m getting 5 shot groups of 3/8″ ctc @ 50 yards.
I’m hopping the barrel doesn’t go to crap (after some 3,800 shots so far), a CZ barrel from the factory would be good to see if it can be better, any word ?
Still loving my Shorty, it’s a real blast to sh@@t her !

That’s a great tip for the trigger rod screw, Thanks :thumb:
Yes, If you disconnected the trigger rod.
Align the LDCs back cap end flush with the front frame on the inside, align the indent on the barrel with the breech block and lightly tighten the locator set screw hex.

Then apply the frame torquing sequence mentioned above.
Play with the trigger rod to engage the safety first, this will set the trigger/safety location back where it was before.
If not, your safety may not engage.
Tighten the trigger rod linkage, I used a hex wrench so it wouldn’t bend the rod end when tightening up.

Also when loosening.

OK so it’s like the Cricket, just let it mount up where it wants to. The Cricket has a little help with the locator set screw that indexes through the rail into the barrel divot. Thanks Greg
Yes, with most Airguns their a bit off Lateral Alignment or some refer it as Canting Error ?
I employ the technique Dman mention above and what little error is left I do the correction within the scope rings.
I wouldn’t fight this, let the gun go where it want to go and most gun will return to the same aliment even after a complete rebuild.
My Crickets have been both properly aligned and after a complete rebuild and after attaching the scope back on it held zero !
You could also use scope rings like the Burris 420520 Signature Zee Rings 1 Inch – Medium, Black, w/ Burris 1 Inch Signature Posi-Align.
But I have been lucky with the fact that the cheap UTG rings are a bit off from each other to begin with.
Swapping them back and forth and flipping them, using that to make any lateral alignment correction in the gun.
In FT they need to be able to shoot accurately at close as well as far ranges.
Some Airgunners never know why when they sight in at 30 yards and shoot out to 60 yards POI is 1/2″ to the side and at 90 yard it’s twice that, an inch.
They except that, and say it can’t be help that’s the way this gun is, that maybe so but it can be fixed.

It’s a lot to read but this is how I did it on my Crickets, with an alignment checking jig I made years ago.

Hey sprocket…..
When you re install the barrel…. the breach gets tightened first. Then the bottom row. start from the breach end working forward.
once you have the bottom tight. then do the same with center row from breach end fwd…. then the top row.
the top row doesn’t need to be as tight as the bottom or middle.
And if you remove all the screws….. PAY ATTENTION TO WHERE THEY GO…. top, bottom and middle are different lengths and bad things can happen if you disregard my warning LOL
Greg on reinstalling the clamp optic rail to the barrel and AT you said to align flush with the rear of the dust collector mount, OK so that’s for the front to back position. How do you align the clamp for the proper side to side position so the barrel is straight with rail and AT ? Thanks
I removed the hammer for inspection and cleaning.
So that the hammer can be slipped out I used 2 Allen keys and I lifted the linkage arm just enough to clear, careful not to bend it’s spring.

I swap out the UTG 80mm side wheel for the 60mm I think it looks more proportional on the Shorty.
The rubber insert are the same so I’m using the same one from the 80mm and saving the new one.

Are those high or medium height rings your using with the Mamba’s ?
Thanks X356b !!
Up date on the Mutant Shorty 177 cal:
Greg,
We are not expecting the Mutant shorty in .177 until early next year.
Hope you are doing well.
Aloha,
Steve
Very good hack!

My UTG side wheel hack to fit onto my Mambas. :fishinghole:

I’m using the 80 mm from PA for $13
http://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/UTG_New_Gen_80mm_Add_On_SWAT_Wheel_For_AccuShot_SWAT_Scopes/4513
the same for the 60mm
http://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/UTG_60mm_Add_On_SWAT_Wheel_For_AccuShot_SWAT_Scopes/5416

Removed the inner rubber fitting, it wasn’t even glued in.

Turned the rubber fitting inside out and disc sanded all the high spots off to make it round.

Turn the rubber fitting right way out and slip it onto the Side Focus Wheel and marked out the high shops that need to be sanded off. Making sure of the proper orientation to the focal length markings on the scope and side wheel.

I pinched the rubber fitting and sanded all the location marked out down to 3/4 th of the thickness of the fitting.

Turned the rubber fitting inside out and disc sanded all the high spots off to make it round.

Carefully push it onto the side wheel and tighten up the 2 grub screws lightly.

Mines been getting better and better in the reg department, my ES is much tighter. If the accuracy falls off 🙄 which I don’t think it will, I have a LW .22 .590 OD barrel blank ready to be machined 1″ longer like Ernest’s .20 cal.
