Just ordered my first Edgun…say hi to the newb.

This is my first post, but I have been reading and enjoying your posts for the last week or so. I just ordered my first Edgun from Tony! I have a .25 R3M Long coming with the next shipment (Nov. that’s all he said). Tony is not the most talkative of fellows, is he? It took me 2 weeks to finally decide what I wanted. I have to say this site has helped me with my decision tremendously. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge with me. I haven’t seen a more loyal and proud family of members towards any other gun, as much as the Edgun….that is what swayed me over.
Well, now that the gun is ordered its time for a scope. Well here goes…. I want a scope with a 5-6 times zoom range that’s great in low light, not too heavy, not too long, parallax adjustments from 10 yards to infinity, great eye relief, great tracking, durable, good warranty, and under $1000 bucks. lol
Well…I really do…but its not gonna happen. I have however narrowed my selection down to 7. A couple are over my budget (as there always will be) and the rest are in range. Can this great forum help me in: #1 selecting the one best for me #2 Put the 7 selections in an order from best choice to worst choice (if there is a worst…they’re all quite good im sure).
Info about me: live in Houston Texas. Lots of places to go and shoot…including back yard, thick wooded areas near subdivisions, short drive to the north, south, east, and west with acres upon acres of undeveloped land. Some of it is open, some is wooded (nice to have friends with acres and acres of land). Lots of plinking, hunting birds, squirrels, rabbits, coons, bobcats, and coyotes, as well as target shooting (outdoors and not at a range). No point in shooting anything under 15 yards…very interested in acquiring the skills to shoot beyond 125 yards. Mostly 25-100 yards. Oh, and I do lots and lots of night shooting. So a good low light scope is B I G ! !
I look forward to all comments from anyone that has something to say…but im also looking for replies from Zocoloco, Knifemaker, Ted, and Oldgoat. Ted….you’re my hero! Mr. EdgunUSA himself…What?!? jk 😆

Well – the facts are the SR Pro and MCZ II are new designed modern reticles (Christmas tree type is a good label) and better for sport airgunning in nearly every regard. That said it is very difficult to convert to it from mil dots after decades of use for us old guys (look at my list of scopes 🙂 ). I did it cold turkey and the improvements (especially for windage at long distances) are night and day (I pride myself on being an over 100 yard sparrow shooter 😆 ). Other than being able to retrain on old dog, I don’t think there is really any debate at this point which is best for general high-power long range airgun usage. Of course there is the SFP and FFP debate too. 🙂
My resume is competitive powder burner bench rest shooting in 80s and 90s for better or worse (light varmint class) and frequent prairie dog shooter. Other than that I have shot airguns my entire fun filled life.
So would you guys say that the SR Pro and MCZ2 reticles are calibrated in MRADs….or some other unit that can be dialed in? The EBR is is all mil-dot all the way, making that very useful. Especially in the wind, right?
That’s near perfect. Now the Hawke SR Pro graduations are not equidistant but follow a trajectory curve making the distances in between identical if that makes any sense.
So you can sight in the center at 50 yards and then have say 10 yard increments for each notch down. It makes ranging very easy and no need for a cheat sheet.
A new European brand-actually Polish. Those Polacks get these made in Japan to their own specs. Have you checked the Delta Optical website ?? There is some more info in English too.
MCZ2…..that, I can do. Sir Ville I got to admit the Delta is looking like a top 3 contender now. I wish their was more info out there that I could read in English!
I can go as far as an EBR2 reticle (vortex) but that H37 is just too busy for me. I want to enjoy the optics. Who knows, maybe my tastes and requirements will change in time.
The Delta MCZ II reticle still tops the Sightron IMO.

Back to task at hand have you looked into scopes with Horus reticles? (H37) Though, the price seems to jump up with them from what I have seen.
I really put these in the Zeiss category but they appear a little better made than the Latest Zeiss that are going all out to cut weight. At this point the Sightron 10-50x60s (or the 8-32s) start looking pretty good too for about $1100 also of Japanese vintage. Synopsis just picked one up for FT and I think he is very impressed. I viewed one in comparison with the other high-end scopes like the Zeiss a few weeks ago and it topped my picks of the ones we had available here in the US.

Check on that Swedish site and pay attention to the Delta Ti FFP. First focal plane reticle tailormade for airgunning / FT. I know the owner of Astro Sweden good enough and he´s a really good guy. He may be able to send to US and drop the Swedish sales tax.
I mean this scope. Sad it´s only 4-14x …. But the reticle is wonderful-and FFP for those who care.

Wrong reticle but close (I think we need the MCZ II – maybe it is the last version). So these scopes are in the $1000 category here in the US. I guess they will beat a Hawke or Leupold Var-III. Ville your living high on the hog!
One negative – they do only have a 5 year warranty and you would have to ship internationally but shipping has become a non-issue these days.

Looks like if one is a bit brave one can get them through suppliers on EBay. This one is from Germany but willing to ship worldwide. He carries a lot of high-end scopes.
