Q:

LOTHAR WALTHER TO OFFER A 9MM BARREL !!! GOOD NEWS!!

I noticed a new entry on the Lothar Walther site.
They will be offering 9MM airgun barrels!!!

READ THE FOLLOWING BACKWARDS these are Emails going back and forth:

Woody:

Thanks for the quick response!!!
How do I get signed up for one of these barrels?
I can announce your intension to offer 9MM airgun barrels on the airgun forums.

The bullet I use has been 105 grain, conical, flat nose.
It is about .5 inch long and hand cast from a lee mold — soft lead.
I can get 1050 FPS (250 foot pounds energy) using this bullet.

The gun / bullet combination is very inaccurate (4 inch groups @ 50 yards).
I am using an Addams & Bennett, $79 , 1 in 15 inch, barrel, 26 inch long –>junk!
I cut the barrel OD from 1.25 inch to .75 inch, as a result there are tight and loose areas in the bore.

I just tested with a 125 grain, conical, flat nose bullet. Lee mold #90238
It is .6 inches long and 135 grains, as cast.
I get 1000 FPS, for 300 foot pounds energy.
This is the bullet I intend to use, as it produces more energy.
As of yet, I have not done accuracy testing, with this bullet.

With airguns, increased barrel length equals more power.
28 inches is better than the 26 I am using now.
$125 sounds good by me!

Again: How soon can I get one of your barrels?

Thanks!!!
Mark

Mark,

We are setting up production now on 9mm airgun barrels. They should be ready for ordering about late october.

The OD will beprobably 0.700-0.750″ Length is to be 28″.
Twist will be 18-or 20″. (650fps) However, at the velocity you are getting 16″ would be better.

For a single one, you are looking at $125 give or take some. Possibly less depending on quantity.

After these start production, they will be a stock item here.

What sort of projectile do you use. This may affect the design of the barrel.

Sincerely,

Woody

The main reason I am pissed is I paid for the tooling for the 308 barrels. I tried to work a deal with Denis to purchase the barrels, and believe me it would have been a lot cheaper to buy them from him; if he would have answered one of the 10 emails I sent him, then I wouldn’t have had to go to woody for the project. I wanted to do conversion for the Air Force guns as stated in my emails so I wouldn’t be competing for any of his customers. Just like I contacted Sean AKA Blodnob to see if we could make an agreement to produce his valve design here in the states, well I could have just made them and not sent him his royalty check. So I don’t want to hear any crap a bought stealing a design from Denis it’s his fault for not responding to my emails anyway the design he is using is an overgrown Crossman anyway I don’t hear anyone bringing that up.

Note left on Brad’s Neighbours doorstep after his Corvette disapears.

“Hi, I just borrowed your car, I left several notes saying I wanted to buy it but you didnt respond… its your own fault for not responding”.

And now your accusing Dennis of stealing Crosmans design? Even if that were true, “Someone else did it” was never a valid excuse when I was in school. No one mentioned it because its irrelavent to this thread as Crosman never made a .308, so what Dennis does in other area’s has nothing to do with the issue at hand.

Makes me wonder what would have happened if Sean had of said thanks but no thanks regarding his valve.

I would have not made them point blank, if he would have told me no then end of discussion no valve.

You know if this is the type of grief I am going to get from the Daq followers maybe I’ll just sell all the barrels I had made by Woody and scrap the project, I don’t need to make them I have plenty of other money makers in the works. I will still make the valves but no conversions. Ill post them on the for sale area they are 27” long and .640 od my cost was $215.00 ea ill throw in the S&H only 7 available.

Were they instructed to “Destroy” the tooling after your run of barrels or where was it agreed they could only make barrels for you with the tooling?

And BTW if you had made Blobknobs valve with out his permission you would not be selling them here TAG or on the Yellow Forum. So I doubt it would have been worth your while unless you had the support of this forum or the Yellow Forum

Selphb,
I don’t see how using the tooling you paid for to sell product is any less honorable than you using the barrel DAQ paid (in time and labor) to develop to get product delivered to you. It seems you and Woody have both decided to use someone else’s efforts for personal gain without permission. Is there a difference I fail to see? Seems to me, no response equals “no” as opposed to the idea that silence equals consent…

I’m no fan of DAQ but I don’t think for a moment that any insults or even fair critiques that LW might toss at DAQ’s barrel work is any defense of the basic infringement or principle here. This sounds like pure industrial espionage here except for the fact that DAQ is too small to protect himself from any decent size company stealing any novel or effective innovation he might have pioneered. And that’s the only reason a major barrel maker would want to examine a DAQ barrel, to see if there was a good idea they missed… and could take. It’s not like twist rates for 900 FPS projectiles of a given weight/length are a secret to LW…or anyone else on this planet!

It sounds just like Gamo stealing (copying) the design for the predator pellet. Or any other number of uncompensated design copies/thefts I’m aware of besides the Chinese national policy…

I kinda hope I’m missing something here and will have to apologize for jumping the gun…

That’s cool they are going to start producing the 9mm & .308. I saw on their site where it looked like they’d do it on a custom basis but I figured they’d be way more expensive than that. $125 doesn’t sound too bad.

I sent Woody a check for 3 25cal barrels last Wednesday and they were on my doorstep when I got home today. I don’t know why he’s acting shifty to Selph as he answered all my emails within 24 hours.

Just trying to bring more products to the air rifle community, believe me if I didn’t like shooting air rifles I sure don’t need the extra work I have a successful gunsmithing shop just trying to help you guys out anyways the DAQ is just a oversized Crossman anyways.

“Just trying to help you guys out”? I mean, come on, WTF is it with that kind of bollocks? Don’t get me wrong, I’ve nothing against somebody making a little earner, putting bread on the table etc, and nor does anyone else around here, so why do you feel the need to resort to that kind of shite? You’re doing it to make yourself fucking money, for crying out loud! Christ, next you’ll be wanting a fucking medal with the money people send you for stuff you sell them. 🙄

The only thing I know is Woody wanted me to send him the barrel and ammo I was planning on using.

I do agree with you I wouldn’t ever think of copying his gun design, the only thing I did was send a barrel to Woody to get him started on the right track, Woody told me that the rifling is really messed up in the Daq barrels and no even consistent.

So why would LW need a DAQ barrel at all to get them on the right track?

They are the barrel masters and I find it strange you would need to send them a DAQ barrel.

What is it that Dennis knew that LW did not?

One of those million dollar questions.

I cannot speak for all airgunners but I for one do not want a copy of DAQ’s stuff as that in my opinion is not honourable.

I didnt meen to open up a can of worms here!
