Q:

Mach 1+ f.p.s. Condor Groups, I won’t be called a liar :)

quote pablouk:

You are getting Kodiaks to shoot well at 1200 fps? 😕 😯 😕 😯
😕 😯 😕 😯

Well, see for yourself. 😎

Now, these aren’t the Kodiak’s, these are the JSB 18.1 Exacts. I shot the rest of my kodiaks at a tree to get rid of them, These Exacts have replaced the Kodes For Ever. Cleaned the barrel, oiled the pellets and sighted in (almost dead on) by shooting off hand at two birds. First bird, head shot but was aiming at center body mass. Second Bird, hit barely to the right, adjusted for this, and the gun was for the most part sighted in. Kodes have NEVER shot that nice out of my gun.

I received a nasty email, I guess from a member here, no name, openly stating that what I had previously said I was capable of is a lie. Well, here are my First Groups Ever with the JSB’s, I love my Condor 😀

BTW, all of these groups are shot at 1,215 f.p.s. average. (Chrony’ed it)

Yes, this is an Offhand group. As I said in a previous thread, I have been sharpshooting for years, and for an airgun shooting pell’s over Mach 1, I’d like to think this is a damn good group. (looks Like I shot Washington’s head, then neck off 😈 )

This isn’t my best, but this is in a 23 MPH crosswind, after dark with the target paper lit by a flashlight on a stand, and yes, at 40 yards 😎

noob i shoot 128 grn weights out of my 9mm 201s that i modded to produce 201fpe i get dime sized groups at 50yds and have killed deer with it within bow range i have pushed my 22 condor to over 1500fps with 14.3grn pellets just look for my post on it i think it was 1549 but u still get no fpe from it go with a 32grn pellet and do the mods and u can get it to 90fpe it will kill big game find mu post in hunting it reads another squirrel down i think but i also shoot 2hours a day atleast

Congrats on an entire post without punctuation. 🙂

And I must say, because I forgot earlier. I definitely would have guessed 15-16 as noob’s age. 🙂

And like roachcreek said, velocity does funny things, and it is hard to predict. I forget who it was, but someone was talking about shooting his 17hmr and how it would penetrate a steel plate, but if he shot a raw egg with it the bullet would fragment. You just never know what it may do.

However, you will be able to let us know how the hypersonic pellet performs on the tree next to the animal you shot at. 😉

Noob,

Yeah what they are saying is true.

Idealy, you want to get the heaviest pellet that you can, to go just under the speed of sound, then fine tune it up or down in air pressure, dwell time on the valve, impact velocity of the hammer, ect., to get the most accuracy you can.

And sometimes even this will not work for you, as some of these pellets will not go fast and shot accurately.

Dropping below the speed of sound effects all projectiles, 7.62 M80 ball, is a fine example, 660 yards it goes subsonnic and loses stability, in Black powder cartridge shooting, a bullet that goes beyond the speed of sound degrades accuracy, and of course this is why accurate target 22 Long Rifle ammo is subsonnic. Diablo pellets just get hit harder from this phenomenon, due largely because they can’t stay supersonnic for long due to poor ballistic shape

And remember these are solft lead pellets, if you drive them at hyper velocity, which they are not designed for, and hit firm muscle and bone, you may not get good penetration.

And even at your young and tender age I am sure you know, as all of here know, the importance of penetration. 😉

I really don’t like the idea of shooting something, then having to track its poor wounded ass across country. BUT- If it was food for the table, I’d beat it to a slow death with my cock.

Just like you do WOK’s butt hole ?

Didn’t your mum tell you not to play with your food???

I love my condor in .22 but I don’t like shooting bigger critters with it…that’s why I got a 909s …that being said if noise is an issue and its coon size or smaller then the condor goes to work but if noise is of no concern then its 200grns @ 925fps to bring the rain… 😈 …but that’s just my .02

Hi Sam,

I thought so too. 😉

The concept of “possibility”, the old “I wonder IF?”, is the driving force behind experimentation. I’m of the opinion that fostering such experimentation can only be a good thing.

Because you mention it here…I’ll agree…don’t be putting combustables into your springer, or on your ammo…a proven BAD idea…proven by experimentation. 🙂

Gippeto : Good link, a lot of what if’s and True super sonic shots, absolutely no accuracy claims, and just plain fun facts of life.

One thing I do want to say is “please don’t spray combustibles into the compression chamber of a spring gun”, “it might just blow up into your Face”.

This is dangerous also, but a spec of kerosene into the skirt of a pellet, will get those spring gun velocities with no consistency that Gamo claims it does.!

😎

Noob, what you’re asking for may well be beyond possible…1500fps in .25 with a pellet of decent mass won’t be easy.

Close however??? Testing and more testing would be required. I won’t shit on ya for having the desire to do it, but I won’t gloss it over and tell you it’s gonna be a walk in the park either.

Springers use adiabatic heating to increase the speed at which the air can move. (simplified version) With a pneumatic, the air is expanding from a “base point” pressure and temperature…the reduction in pressure also causes the temperature to drop…lowering the maximum speed at which the gas will move.

It may be possible to mod the condor to take advantage of the copious amounts of dead space in the valve and breech to provide for a degree of adiabatic heating. IF it could be done, this MAY counteract some of the cooling effects, and allow higher velocity.

Believe Walter Glover has hit 1475fps with a 7.9grain (.177) in his home built Vulture. Walters word is good enough for me to accept that it’s been done.

Have to agree with Lama though…get something bigger than a .22 airgun for deer and things that “bite”. Don’t fool around…if you’re gonna kill something, make certain it’s gonna go down…and stay down.

Boy do these threads wander!

So far, that I need to toss my crap in here too…

Pushing a pellet supersonic is awesome and noisy and may even give a decent group at a short range…BUT diablo pellets are as aerodynamic as I am ass to the wind! They slow down so damn fast that the only thing you can hit with the pellet still SS is your foot. That’s right, big air use, big noise and the damn pellet is sub sonic 30 feet from the muzzle (no that’s not an exact figure).

Shoot the same JSB at 900 and you give up far less velocity differential at the target than you started with. It’s physics, it don’t change no matter how much you want it to!

Thanks Llama I needed a good laugh.

Sam 😀

Glad I could help. 🙂

But you forgot to call his .177 hog-slaying airgun a sniper rifle. It also needs a laser and a flashlight on the scope.

But once we get done with that simple task, we should see how fast we can get airsoft bbs and how well it kills deer. 😆

Evidently you don’t, have you actually held one in hand and shot one at a target. When you have, then you’ll know. Gamo has the same bullshit hype. Go buy one and see what you get.

Sam

Oh sure you can. It only works with spring piston airguns, but just spray a bit of wd-40 down the pistol tube and you can get great velocities! Ignore the smoke coming out. That’s probably just awesome smoke from the super awesome velocity! 🙄

However, in an ironic twist, gamo’s 1600fps rifle is perfect for hog hunting, they proved it.

00Noob be for real, you talking apples and oranges here, that’s got to be a 177 and you’re talking minimum .25 to dream about what you want “killing Big feral dogs”.

You need to get the “Chairgun” software program and do some real world research on a 177 @ 1500mv. That would be what FPE out to 40 yards, won’t kill no feral dog, or do you think it would?

Sam

Jonas,

Here’s the scoop. For a large portion of the game you mentioned, your rifle is not adequate. Even if you got the speeds up, it still won’t be enough. These guns are a lot of fun, and they are pretty cool to shoot. But you have to realize the limitations.

Shoot your condor at squirrels. It is big enough for coon hunting. Coyote is the border. I probably wouldn’t, but some do. Bigger than that is definitely a no-no. Can it work? Sure. Should you? Nope.

You sound like you have some property. You must if there are deer eating the crops. So don’t bother pushing limits. Shoot them with something bigger. .223 at least, definitely propelled by powder. There is just no point in underpowered hunting. At best you will end up with a wounded animal running around, at worst it will bite you. And remember, an animal that is wounded will run directly to the closest animal lover’s house. And if you shoot a feral dog, with a smallbore airgun, you deserve the biting you are going to get.

Basically, you need to step back and think about this. By all means, push the limits of the condor. Make it shoot fast. Try and keep it shooting accurately. If you can, wonderful. We love modifying these guns here. But do it for the fun of modifying it, not for sheer fpe numbers for hunting. Many of the dreams you are thinking of have been thought of before. If you can make it work, people will love you.

Leave the big game hunting to the big game guns. If you want powderburner power and trajectory, buy a powederburner. They are two different worlds. Trying to get an airgun to match a 30-06 is as pointless as trying to make a 30-06 match an airgun. Just enjoy both doing what they do best.
