Not at all thrilled with results of this moderator for the price. Sounds like most folks feel the same way. Big disappointment. However you might be able to get more out of it with several other modifications to the gun and to your new OFFSET MODERATOR.

I started out with 1/64th inch and gradually increased to 1/32nd inch.
You can go larger but be aware you will gradually obtain a blow-by noise if the holes get too large and exhaust too much air.
It will make a difference!

It pains me to drill. But I guess the options are limited.
First question is if there is a generic offset moderator to cover .177, .22 and .25? If so, then .177 and .22 have too big exit holes which reduces their capabilities.
Second thing is that the volume is increased but the number of baffles is decreased. Why?

Installed 2 of them tonight, both on .25 longs, both shooting at 920fps.
The offset moderator wasn’t a huge reduction in noise– but I didn’t expect it to be since I had already modified the stock moderator which reduced the noise substantially.
Earlier this year I had drilled out the transfer holes in the back of the stock baffles at the barrel nut, enlarged the bleed holes at the back of the rear shroud under the scope rail, and added a tiny bit of low density polyethylene breather cloth at the back of the rear shroud under the rear vent holes. Those mods were a dramatic reduction in noise compared to unmodified.
Tonight I installed the eccentric moderator on one rifle and then shot it back to back with the other rifle that still had the standard diameter (but modified) shroud. The rifle with the offset moderator is noticeably quieter, but the difference isn’t dramatic– that is my observation from both shooting the rifle and standing 10 feet away and letting a friend shoot it. The noise difference between the two was far more noticeable standing 10 feet away and letting a friend shoot the rifle– when you’re shooting the rifle they sound similar as the hammer slap in your ear gives a false impression.
However… before spending $150 on the offset moderator I’d *strongly* suggest modifying the stock moderator by enlarging the transfer ports at the barrel nut and then enlarging the vent holes at the back of the rear shroud. If that’s still not quiet enough for you, then the offset moderator will take a little more noise away. The key really is getting more air into and out of the rear portion of the moderator, just don’t go too big enlarging the rear vent holes. For me, I think the offset moderator was worth it as I wanted a further reduction of the muzzle blast over the modified stock diameter moderator without adding length to the rifle.

Noticed the problem only with the .25 caliber models? If so, this is not a new factor. The increase in air pressure going from .22 to .25 caliber has always been a factor in problematic sound reduction. There is a serious increase in volume of air being transmitted from the valve out the muzzle.
Again…the answer is to reduce the air pressure exiting the muzzle. There is one answer…reduce the air pressure exiting the muzzle. You can do this more than one way…
1) Increase the volume of the shroud permitting an increase of air expansion which reduces release pressure from the muzzle
2) Vent the shroud which reduces the air pressure prior to it’s getting to the baffles and exiting the muzzle
3) Reduce the regulator setting so less air is used to propel the pellet, albeit at a lower exist velocity.
Power and speed do not come free…there are always trade-offs. In this case, you have choices. The eccentric moderator at the end will reduce muzzle pressure but it’s not large enough to make a quantum difference in sound reduction. It’s simply not enough volume to achieve that effect.
Again, I say increase the diameter of the rear shroud vents to reduce the air pressure/volume reaching the baffled end of the shroud and exiting the muzzle. And…keep the pellet velocity in the 850- 880 fps range. Increase power means increased muzzle noise, and the increase from 880 to 900+ is going to make a serious exhaust noise difference.
If you want more than 50 fpe, then get a .30 caliber. Keep the .25 within it’s operating range and it can be both powerful and quiet. Don’t expect miracles from the limited volume increase of an eccentric ldc on the end of the shroud. It will help, but not to some shooters satisfaction!
Increase the diameter of the rear shroud vents and reduce the muzzle report! Use a dB meter and prove me wrong! We’ve been down this road before. And remember, this is a caliber related phenomenon! Going from .22 to .25 is going to make a big difference in muzzle report.

I just want to know when these will come standard on the R3M. I don’t feel like getting taken to the woodshed like oak already has. $150 can buy a lot of booze, and/or pellets.
