The EDgun regulator is one of the best in the world. It is straightforward and efficient. The regulator is capable of almost 1 FPS extreme spread. Wingman did an excellent video where he showed that variation is caused by external factors, not the regulator. So the Huma advantage comes from its low profile, this gives more volume in the plenum. I would put it on par with the Edgun regulator regarding efficiency
In the standard, the speed I can achieve realistically is 790 to 810 with the Huma and 34s. The long will hit about 830 max. I don’t like the current set up, and I would like to run the regulator at 120 and get speeds of 880 in the long with 34s. I have some ideas how to do it, and Wingman is going to help.
So be patient I am working on a solution to get more speed and not redline the capability of the Matador

Aestheticbro…Sorry that didn’t yield the desired results. I know it’s been a long journey. The only other thing I can logically question, after porting and the longer valve rod is, the strength of the hammer spring. I believe you mentioned it had been changed out (or it may of been someone else). Are you any where near max’d out on your spring tension? I know that the addition of the hammer weight alone accounts for almost 80 fps all other things being equal. Look forward to your accuracy testing. My average 5 shot group with unsorted pellets, in the tunnel, @ 100 yds was 1.18″ w/ the best groups @ .85″ & .92″. I’ve yet to test my best sorted pellets.

:dito: I get 34 shots @ 130 bar reg setting filled to 220 bar…50 shots, ya, but 10 of those couldn’t be used for accuracy or hunting???

Here’s an update for you guys. Hopefully this info is useful for someone. I’ve installed a new valve that has 4.5mm protrusion (original was 3.31mm). Unfortunately, I didn’t see an increase in max speed like huntjunky saw with his Matador. The longer valve stem did stop the hammer from hitting the brass valve housing though, so my gun is noticeably more quiet. Now, the majority of the noise is from the pellet/air discharging.
For tuning, I turned the Huma reg up to 140bar and shot a few shots at various HST settings to pick a starting point.
Next, I shot a few shot strings at 1/8 turn increments from the starting point. I primarily used my mk1 pellets to get rid of them but was surprised to see a 5fps increase when I switched to the mk2 pellets for the final string. In several of the strings, the random drops in fps are probably due to me moving the gun while it was recoiling; the gun jumps quite a bit more than it did in stock configuration, but is totally manageable. I wasn’t able to figure out why my gun (early 2014 R3M std) seems to cap out at ~890fps @ 140bar but I’m pretty fucking happy with my results regardless. I settled with the settings from #6 below. All strings were shot from a 200bar fill.

I also made a budget scope cam device out of an iPhone case from ebay ($0.99) epoxied to PVC fitting ($2) and a flexible coupling ($8). I’ll be posting several 100yd groups on video next week to see how accurate this setup is and to compare the Edgun JSB Heavy pellets to the JSB mk2’s.
FYI, I settled on an indicated 127 bar reg setting. With this I got a max of 918 fps and have it dialed for 905. BTW, my valve and action TP are both about a 5.52 or so. I didn’t get real serious about measuring but did put the calipers on them to check a ballpark measurement as I was curious if they were below 5.8. It doesn’t really matter as the performance I’m at is what I was going for.
Thanks for the info. When you do your next test, alternate guns each group, to level the playing field in case conditions change over the shooting period. Also curious to see what you think is the preferred pellet for the Matador. Thanks again.
I’ll take the distance further as I get more comfortable with the Matador. The further distances should show that the Matador has an advantage due to the faster twist rate.

Alright, here are some groups. I put the .25 power tuned Matador head to head against my .25 power tuned Cricket. I was waiting for my Edgun MK2 pellet shipment to show up but they are late. So, I used the MK1’s that I always shoot out of the Cricket. Both are shooting the 34 grainers at 905 fps. I filled both and shot 6 consecutive 5 shot groups from top to bottom and left to right with each pup. No sorting/straight from the tin. No cherry picked groups. This is their first match up against one another. 50 yards with 4 mph wind 53 F.

Who do you say won? I’ll tell you, it’s a close match up and the results will probably be different the next time. I seem to be the weak link. That one flyer with the Cricket was all me. And the largest group with the Matador was my fault too as I seemed to lose my way on that group. I’m very pleased with how the Matador turned out.

My 2013 Long is doing well. This is a R3, so no mags to deal with which is good for me because I shoot lefty. I know Ed shoots lefty but the mag in my face is just not comfortable no matter what adjustments I’ve made. Anyway, the accuracy is there. I’m making some adjustment to my shooting technique that is helping. This Matador hasn’t liked a rear bag. It shoots better with front rest and with my non-trigger hand holding the rear “horn” of the Matador stock. I haven’t tried a bipod yet but the shooting competition I do here in Texas doesn’t allow them as rules state a simple/non-mechanical rest in front and no rest in the back. I have some Edgun .25 MK2’s coming from Edgun West and will try to keep improving………..
BTW, I have a DonnyFL Matador adapter. This is basically like the original Matador baffled section that tensions the barrel but with 1/2″ x 20 threads on the end to enable the addition of a suppressor (Edgun West also sells these). I’ve added Donny’s Sumo. This greatly reduces the report. I don’t care what has been said, in the two Matadors I’ve put this Huma power kit on, it definitely increased the report when dialed in to shoot the 34 grainers to around 900 fps. The Sumo has done the trick in this area.
Just had to throw this in…after all, it’s kinda the point of our journey. More field testing…other than 2 bunnies, taken with off hand shots, 1 while running, all these rabbits were harvested at ranges 91-158 yds. Didn’t lose a rabbit this day. I am of the opinion now, that there is a noticeable difference in the knock down provided by the heavies, though somewhat subjective. Post this pic, I made my longest kill to date (just to test the limits). It took 3 shots but with no wind conditions, I laid one down @ 232 yds. This was with my elev turret maxed out @ 206 yds and a 3.5 mill holdover. From now on I will keep shots under 150-175 yds, depending on conditions, to keep it somewhat ethical.

I acquired a .25 Matador R3 Long. It was manufactured in 2013. I just took delivery of it today. Man, this gun is in excellent, almost new condition.
I installed the Huma power kit with the regulator at 131 bar, just a hair past the indicated 130. I got a max fps of 925 with the 34 gr MK2’s. I have it dialed for 910 fps. This Long version responded a lot better to the power kit than my 2014 Standard version did.
I will be testing accuracy tomorrow………..
