Q:

The T.U.R.D Coming !

Just a pic of the Tactical Utilitran Rifle Design striaght from the Voleworks design dept. This is what ive come up with …. 😕

Its .177 , 15 round mag , collapsible stock , AR grip , pump action , shrouded , 70 shot regulated and at 70cm long.

I wanted to design a gun for the guys who do ” Ratting ” as its known over here ,so its a small take down type gun to shoot rats in barns. If i get the drawings finished in the next couple of weeks the first prototype should start soon arfter on my mates new CNC machining centers .
Ive been drawing on Auto CAD for weeks , and im now experiencing the joys of learning 3D CAD ( for this and my CNC mill).
So i thought id see what you guys like / dislike because its not going to be for sale in the USA …hehe !. 😀
So what do you think !

Finished the probe im going with , its going to lock like the T4 with ball bearings being pushed out into a groove of the probe bore, as it was the easiest solution

Just need time and motivation to make the dam thing!

Anyone can learn how to use SW, just start with the tutorials and will learn the stuff you need, after that it’s just practice.
Remember that you need to use SW with machining in mind, like star with a block and make the needed extrusions and holes…

Here’s a pic of my project (electronic valve/solenoide, trigger, chrono at the end of muzzlebreak, LCD with velocity, shot count and LOADED warning):

Looking very good Buba. I’ve been trying to learn solidworks but you’re way above my level. Keep it up I can’t wait to see the finished product, your last gun was great. 🙂

Looks sweet man. I play with Solid Edge every now and then but it also has a huge learning curve on it. Anyone know of Solid Works is any easier to get over the hump?

Will that step in the trigger guard be hard to machine?

I messed around with Auto CAD and it did my head in when it came to 3D . I found Solidworks to be alot simpler once you get it into your head about working on the differant planes in 3d. So il keep Auto CAD for quick drawings and SW for 3D which will be for CNC. Done the trigger group 😕 , about 6 hours work ….. with about 3 hours of deleting and shuffling things around LoL 😀

I’ll have to give that a try then, thanks.

AutoCad is mostly 2d but if you want a serious headache you could use it’s 3d capabilities…

Solid Works is one of the best softwares for machine/mechanical type stuff… Unlike 3d Studio or Maya it is for engineering and not animation, I believe it will do stress analysis, rapid prototyping interface and clearance testing (among many other things)…

Nice work Bubba, welcome to the world of near-reality fabrication…

You’ll never use your tools again! 😆 😉

How does Solidworks compare to Autocad or Inventor?

Looks great BUBA!!! Have you seen the breech I sent you?

I’ve a friend that her father has CNC machines and laser cut machines and he agreed to help me build my breech. And maybe a new part-time job drawing the stuff for his company 😆

You got the hang of it pretty fast 😉

Not much done to the T.U.R.D as ive busy learning the wonders of Solidworks thanks to Bart 😀 . I made a cocking probe for the T.U.R.D which didnt live upto expectations so i thought i needed to design the dam thing in 3D to stop me wasting materials / time .
This will hopefully be the Raptor MK 1 that may be built by my guy on his CNC ” IF ” i can give him an IGS file he can use. Also i hope it will come in usefull if i get my mill CNC ,d . Differant fully adjstable trigger group will be used on this with a smooth cylinder ( unlike the HW100 for the T.U.R.D ) kindly provided by Baz and Sean which will make it alot easier to build the sliding forend on . Once ive redrawn the new cocking / probe , il make it and test in the T.U.R.D , so il have a working prototype that the guy can see. If that dont get it going ive got another engineering firm on my list ! .

Still abit more to come off the breach but you get the idea !. Im taking over from McMike with eye candy LoL.
L8r all 😀

The prototype T.U.R.D continues , with zero funds and limited devolopment like all the best arms manufacturers…. 😕 ( polishing too come later ) , with the grip plate finished. Im not sure as to how fussy im going to be about the finish of this gun .The whole idea for this gun is to have a test bed for the pump action , magazine , valves , regulator , anodising and blowback ( yes ive got that much time on my hands 😯 ). When making the T4 it took for ever to keep all the surfaces clean and take care as to where i put the dam thing down , as i was always thinking about not damaging it . This one is going to be taken apart , remachined and chucked around my small workshop so l want a gun im not going to worrie about too much .

Already as a result of making this , the design has had major changes to the production version ( if it gets that far 😕 ) so il have to see what else i learn as the build gose on . Ive left the slot for the cocking until last as i was looking for a better idea on how to lock the probe , think im just going to go with it and see if it comes good . Just have to see how much it takes to hold the probe shut once fired.

This is the latest idea …… 😯 , abit late to be inculeded on this gun but it would solve the locking of the probe ……have to get drawing on Solidworks LoL ……il be back later ……..much later ….
L8r all 😀

Congratulations Buba! As I told you it just takes time, the tutorials are great, and when you need to do some kind of feature you don’t remember just go back to that to tutorial… The only problem I have had so far it’s making threads on shafts but I’m searching for a tutorial.

Any questions or help just talk to me. If you need do convert SolidWorks files to other formats there are a lot of converters available.

Cheers,
Filipe

Ive had a liittle go at SolidWorks (trial version) and it seams the software that i need to use. I didnt get very far as it proved a steep learning curve , so as you say sniper782 its just down to time …something i feel im going to have alot of soon 🙁 . As far as exporting 2d cad in IGS format ….i didnt know that ….and thats why the guy expects 3d drawings i guess .
The Gamekeeper rifle is a very collectable gun over here , comanding a £1000 price tag for a good example , rare too . Hadnt thought how similar mine will look ….can only be a good thing i suppose …….later all the shed is calling 😀 .
