Q:

why attack the Mutant

I have been scratching my head for weeks now trying to understand why a small group of people attack the mutant. I understand that there is a lot of politics in the airgun business because the market share is small. I know that dealers and manufactures hire Spartans to invade forums and spread fear and discourse. AGN has become a cesspool of special interest pushing a gun. The Mutant is a fantastic gun. I don’t get paid to say so, I paid for my gun the same way all of you will. I never wanted my real name out not because I am hiding but because I wanted to stay anonymous. I wanted be able to call a dealer, get a gun, and review it without any special treatment or customized treatment that so often is the case with guns sent to “professional reviews”. When a gun goes wrong I’ll be the first person to call the problem out. Many of you remember me on the rampage about the Mutant short barrels and more recently about the EDgun .30. I love the honesty found here on this board. Tony has given us the freedom to speak the truth even if it may hurt a gun that he sells. I only stray from my original question slightly in order to illustrate a point; if you bullshit, lie or have a secret agenda over here on TAG you will be drawn and quartered by it’s residents. This is why the spartans stay away from this board, they would be crushed.

So back to the question at hand…why attack the Mutant? The price. I held the opinion that Steve from WWAG over priced the Mutant. I think he priced the Mutant at 1450 for several reasons. He wanted a dealer network, and he may have felt the need to protect the Cricket. I also knew that eventually someone would begin to sell Mutants for cheap. Let’s face it, labor cost are pretty low in the Ukraine. It’s hard for a socialist country with insane taxes and utility cost to compete with a small Ukrainian maker. So you are a large dealer, your main source of income comes from a country that pays through the roof labor cost and taxes. Suddenly a little gun that is efficient, accurate and quiet comes along and threatens sales of the more expensive guns. So you make sure that doesn’t happen.

Never forget the airgun holy trinity: Accurate, Reliable, Quiet. When a gun has all three of these characteristics you have a winner.

Elmer Fudd has a point . Language barrier or not , that guy seems full of shit …Oh and Tactical that’s for you too, along with all your bullshit alias.

You guys smell that? I think it’s bullshit lurking around the corner. Let me elaborate. A person is finally welcomed back to the forums. Other than spending half of their post count saying hi and shit on the Vulcan thread, they’re posting on the Mutant subforum. Something they don’t even sell. Why would someone with such great knowledge in airguns waste so much effort questioning an airgun they don’t sell? Are they trying to become a reseller? If that’s the case, why doesn’t this person direct these questions towards the manufacturer instead of the masses. Wouldn’t it serve this person better to promote a product they sell rather than dwell on a single sample of an airgun they don’t sell? Language barrier or not, I think most can smell the BS.

It’s funny because I don’t even own a Mutant and now want one due to all the attention it has gotten. What’s the old saying. Bad PR is still better than no PR? I guess this strategy has backfired on said person.

Agreed Darryl the other guns I have recently parted with are fine guns. I sold the other guns because of these reasons: I wanted a small gun I could be sneaky with. This small gun has to be very very accurate, have a good shot count and is very quiet. The baby gave me all these options. The shot count is the least important of the four things I wanted. Baby fits my needs well better then those other guns!

Those guys have an agenda. Something is not right. I agree, I want a short from TGAG. My standard is a great pup and the short would just add to the happiness. Man if they ever make a .30, I would jump at the chance to own one.

Testicle / PCPGunman / Sergy – They all have to be the same person. Same argument, same poor grammar, same agenda.

What I found interesting in all of this was some of the “behind the scenes” emails that he posted. He brought up the whole Steve CT / FX meeting / price list saga, the Yellow takeover emails, the Taipan partnership issues, etc. I am not sure where all that stuff came from, if any of it is true, who leaked it, whatever, but the fact that he had it all was interesting. Why accumulate that information for the purpose of trying to trash a single gun. My initial thought was he was the jilted partner, again if that story is even true.

At this point I know two things. My Mutant Standard is an amazing gun. I would love to buy a shorty from Topgun for the lower price. The same gun in a smaller package would be even more amazing. Second, I am not wasting any more time at AGN. I will keep lurking here with the foul language and insults. At least I will get an honest answer.

Thanks all.
Bruce

I just ask my friend. Are the media customers on the status of the gun

Sniper you are not using the word “angry” incorrectly. Debate in the USA doesn’t have to be emotional. To be honest I really haven’t even grasped what point you are making. People have no idea what you are talking about.

Darryl,
I use mirage to dope wind. I try to practice the same way I would have to hunt.

So why did I keep the mutant over the Lelya and Colibri? Noise . The gun is quiet and the regulator efficient. It can be detuned to shoot slow or bumped to shoot fast. Is the mutant the greatest gun I have ever owned? No. It’s one of many options out there. I love that there are so many new guns on the market. I even have a FX on order. I am not a brand loyalist.

Every time a new gun hits the market I have seen the exact same attacks. Not “hey my regulator is not working or hey my gun leaks or I need help with POI shift”. Instead I see “made in China”, “this company is sneaky”, or “buy an FX because this gun is a rip-off”. I saw these types of posts regarding Vulcan, EDgun, and Kalibergun. It seems odd that the same type of game players always come out when a new gun gains traction and they attack in the same exact way.

perhaps people erupt at something they think is untrue, or unfair? It’s hard to reconcile these sorts of issues with uneven data. Who knows? Maybe some are receiving counterfeit guns of suspicious quality to some parts of the world so those experiences are different from owners who have legitimate samples? People on this forum do not find the issues with their Mutants that you speak of. Why is this, and how to explain the different perceptions of quality? Older build quality versus new build quality? I don’t know, but the differences are separating people who otherwise share a common interest. Each camp says my guns are (fill in the blanks) and the other side says just the opposite. Each side seems to see a different truth. Ask your local Taipan dealer if his customers are happy with their guns. Let us know what you find out. Ask him t post a video reply. Maybe we’ll all learn something.

Keyser, I didn’t notice any wind flags in your video review of the Short. No matter, wind flags or no, that’s impressive shooting. I’d read somewhere that the length of a barrel is not necessarily an indicator of accuracy. Hitting shotgun shells at 183 yards impresses the heck out of me; gun and shooter both. Makes me regret not moving to the country years ago when land was still sort of reasonable. Also the BC of the 15.89 pellet at 23 fpe must be pretty good?

Oak, you sold some fine hardware, and decided to keep the Mutant. That’s more testimony to the gun’s ability. How did you come to decide (as Keyser did too?) to keep the Mutant over the others? Surely the gun can’t be that much more pleasant to shoot than the others. I guess I’ll find out.

Dman, well you know these guns as well as anyone, if not better.

My point is I’ve come to rely on you guys for clear-minded evaluation of a gun’s worth. If you say it, I’m inclined to believe it’s so.

Sniperq8y I’ve watched a lot of your videos. You’re a great shooter too. I think you take your business seriously. I’m sorry I don’t understand what you say in your videos, but I do pay attention to what you’re doing. I’ll add that I think there comes a time when you have to leave people to their own devices. Button-pushing hardly ever has a good end result. I’d hate to see you lose the respect of people on this forum to the point that the work you put into your becomes becomes lost in battles no longer worth fighting. I guess you have to decide if it’s worthwhile for you to continue on a topic or to just let it go and get on with what you do best.
