.25 slugs
On the yellow forum in the classified section there is a guy selling .25 slugs 73 grain and 56 grain. my question is how fast do you think that we could push them down the barrel of a Condor. he tested them in a Sumatra carbine. I would post the link but I dont know how. The wife is in France 🙁 and took the brains with her. 😳

Jerry what is the sectional density of those behemoths? It’s got to be super-high! (sectional density of the 72.3’s in .252 is .164)
Just did a few groups with the slugs….
Dragging ass still here, but managed a few groups just to see what they’d do. I did a total of 5 groups, not cherry picked…
First group here was done with the 8ring 72.3grs. Aside from the flyer I threw, I think it’s a nice group. The paper tore a bit as there is a bit of an incline where I shoot. The bullets didnt tumble. Cardboard backstop told the tale, just a big hole. These really arent bad to load, just got to get them started good and they are off. I’ll try some lubed bullets at some point. These are .251 diameter.
Next, I tried the .251 54.2gr. These spread out a little bit, but more testing is needed as I’m really not in shooting form today. Been tanked up on coffee since I got up.
I then tried the .252 54.2gr. These tightened up a little bit and while plinking spinner targets seemed a bit more consistent than the .251gr
I then went back to the 72.3gr slugs for another group… same results….
The drop in these at 50 yards isnt bad considering my Condor is sighted in for Kodiaks an inch high at 50 yards.
The last group I did was with some unsized slugs for my .308 DAQ. I had some sized to exactly .308 and they didnt do so well. Jerry sent me these unsized and they are grouping like a champ.
And a bit of comparison…. here is a .177 Premier, a .25, 31.2gr Kodiak and a 72.3gr slug…. looks like a chunk of rebar!
JERRY…HE HE HE HE HE HE. You were hoping to recover a slug. Let me tell you guys this….in small game using a .25 cal SUMATRA, you will never recover a slug. Been shooting a .25 for a while now and i did not even recover a hollowpoint slug at 146 yrds. It zipped through and kept going into the distance. You gotta really LOWER them velocities. Even a Kodiak at 500+ velocities and close range will zip right through quarry.
Well Mr-lama, I can only hope the 6 ring 55gr version shoots really well then! I’ve got the ability to pour two of those at once while everything else is currently a single cavity mold.
I just took a squirrel with an 8 ring version using the Sumatra carbine. I was hoping to recover the slug but other than the trench it dug after passing through, I could not find where it ended up.
Can’t wait for accuracy reports rob.
If they shoot well, count me in for a few tins. If they shoot really well, jerry, you better not stop making them, because I’m not stopping buying them. 😛

No, my Condor has had the Tony touch to it. More on that later…. but it’s throwing out Kodiaks at around 1030fps right now from a 2900psi fill. I fill to 3000psi to get a few more shots out of it.
The accuracy will tell the tale…..
Thanks for the numbers Rob. When you get back with accuracy observations please let us know how the slugs loaded for you and if there was a difference between the performance of the .251s and .252s.
I think that a standard Condor just with a .25″ barrel dropped in should be able to get a Kodiak up to 1000fps, and it seems that most have more than that. 7xxfps may be a little on the slow side for some, but I think that it will tend to be closer to the 8xxfps side of things, and there is always the lighter pellet to try, which I felt (and still do) would give the best compromise.
Rob; your Condor is “just” a drop-in barrel, right?
Just got back this morning at 2a.m. from a conference out of state. Had a package from Jerry with the slugs in it. They look bad assed.
I havent done any shooting yet, but did run a couple over the chrony….
I only did three shots so folks could get an idea of where my Condor is at. Tofaz is a great test bed, but lets face it…. his Condor is on STEROIDS..haha
Not everyone has a Condor you can fill to 3400psi and rake in those kind of numbers so here is some numbers from a slightly less beefed up Condor…….
72.3gr 785.6fps 99.11fpe
54.2gr 845.3fps 86.02fpe
31.2gr 1015fps 71.39fpe
The last one is using a Kodiak for comparison… So it looks like if your Condor will shoot the .25 Kodiaks in the 1010-1020fps range, you can get damn near 100fpe by using the 72gr slugs in it.
I’ll do some accuracy testing soon as I fully wake up and get my bearings after being gone all week.
Sounds like a good ride to me, I’ll bite. Thanks for the info, Jerry. Let me know when you’ve sorted out the correct sizing. I’m using my .25 for hunting pigs, and have found with my 308s and 9mm rifles that a litttle over 100fpe is plenty if you place an accurate head shot wiht hard lead. Since yours might be softer than, say, Hunters Supply, I”ll be sure to send you pics of the first kill I get with your slugs. I hope I’m able to recover the slug (not always possible).
I lucked out and found a Tony Tunes .25 earlier this week, I should have it next week for testing.

Yeah, I’m hoping they do well in my 45 as well. So far, the RB’s are king in that 45, but dont have a lot of smack to them.
That 45 has been my most accurate big bore, bar none… that thing is a tackdriver.

bc should be more like .164 (did you miss a decimal perhaps??) even a 50cal 750 gr spitzer boat tail bullet is not over 1.00 bc.
Just a minor thing though as even a .25 kodiac is .0xx BC, still a tremendous improvement.
