Q:

HOW OLD ARE WE???

Hey Guys 😀

I was just sittin here drinking a beer twidling with me belly button (as you do ), thinking about how much of a ‘fringe’ hobby this is. Then i started thinking about how young i was when i first started playing with air rifles. It was the early eighties, i was about 11 or so when i first started playing in the woods with them.

I’m 37 now. I’ve got an air rifle. i go to the woods and play with it.
In 20 years, you’ll find me somewhere, playing with me air rifle.

Roll Call.

Ages please. It can’t be just me whos getting older but still playing… 😕

2007

jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for traumatized students and teachers.

a couple of months ago, maybe last fall, a student in jr. high school had the police called and surrounded him for terrorizing with a gun.

it was after school, and he went home and brought back a new crosman 2240 that his dad had just bought him, and he was showing it off to some friends in a park across the street from the school, some jackass saw them and call the police. they let him go after he told them what he was doing. at least the cops in Maine have some common sense left. the caller was probably from one of those “civilized” state south of us.

boy, this thread has wandered all over the place from the original how old are you into a bunch of grumpy old men complaining about the mo-rons 🙄 😆

Propellant for the estes motors is primarily compressed Black Powder, with additives to control burn rate. far as I know, hasn’t changed.

i would have thought they would have changed to something else for the propellant in this lawyer happy society today. hell 40-50 years ago, if you blew your hand all to hell doing something like that, your father would just whop you upside the head and call you stupid. now they run and call a lawyer and complain about a dangerous product. like the dry cleaning bags that have “NOT A TOY” written on them D-OH! 🙄

Or your kid calls dhr on you and you go to jail for child abuse.

Got this in an e-mail the other day, so true….

And if we do not wake up and take our country back – WE will not have a country , nor a society to grow old in or for our children to grow up in

Think about it !

I used to like California but WTH! When are they gonna stop. It wont be long before its illegal to leave your house without hazmat suits on so you dont spread any germs or drop dead skin cells in the environment.

Couldn’t let the story of those lights getting out…….

quote pablouk:

Yup, launched a mouse before!!!!

He was fine when he landed again, though did report sightings of strange lights up there…..

Then we gave him to the cat. Way to treat an intrepid test-pilot.

I have one in the garage somewhere I never built, got it a few years ago, i’ll check out the motor and see if I can find anything on the ingredients.

quote Saugus18:

Yeah i read stories of kids putting all kinds of stuff for a payload, mice, bugs ect. I’m not sure a mouse could withstand the G forces when taking off, these things would be hundreds of feet up in like 3 seconds.

UpTheHill, yeah no way are those motors today propelled by the same stuff.

I always thought is was a hassle using a battery and wire with clips to insert into the motor for ignition, I would just go to the hobby store and pick up a roll of Jet X fuse, or the good water proof fuse and just put a piece of that in the motor nozzle, light it, and get away. That water proof fuse was great, the same fuse you find on Cherry bombs, M-80’s ect. The stuff would burn completley submerged under water. It came red or green with a special coating on it. Came in 2-3 ft rolls. Doubt you’ll find that in the hobby store today.

Wasn’t there also 1 that that could carry an egg as it’s pay load? I seem to remember wanting to put a mouse in the payload compartment instead. 😈

quote Saugus18:

remember the huge rocket that had a camera payload? The camera was attached to the parachute, facing down with a timer on it, taking pictures straight down at the ground from a few hundred feet up.

oh yeah, i’d forgotten about those.
I did a google search yesterday and Estes is still in business, still making rockets and RC planes. couldn’t figure out what the engines were made from, but can’t imagine it’s made the same as when we were kids.
