I was just sittin here drinking a beer twidling with me belly button (as you do ), thinking about how much of a ‘fringe’ hobby this is. Then i started thinking about how young i was when i first started playing with air rifles. It was the early eighties, i was about 11 or so when i first started playing in the woods with them.
I’m 37 now. I’ve got an air rifle. i go to the woods and play with it.
In 20 years, you’ll find me somewhere, playing with me air rifle.

53 years young here. This may surprise some of you but I got my first airgun about 1 year ago! A Crosman 2250. Mac 1 Tim bulked it, got valve work done, steel breach, 21″ barrel, hammer spring, custom valve stem/spring, kicks ass, but it’s just to loud. I really love my TSS. I’ve thought about getting a AG for years, just never got around to it. But man, I’m in it deep now lol. Wish I started sooner!
this thread has been very entertaining and given a chance for everyone to get to know eachother a little better imho, even if just age and how we got here. Been around since TOG, and never gave much thought to the “community” here, always presumed by the antics and such that it was generally an 18-30 age group with some on each end for good measure. never would have guessed so many 30+ers, much less 50+ were in our midst. Afterall, we are dedicated to BB Guns of a sort, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who gets funny looks telling someone unknowing what one of their favorite hobby is (airguns are for kids not ready for real guns remember?)
46 years old. Shot my first air gun when I was 5 years old…what did I hit? my 3 year old brothers front tooth..knocked it right out…don’t worry a new tooth grew in an he hardly remembers the incident.

I do not remember my first airgun, but it must have been a Red Ryder because I remember the way I loaded it.
I used that until Dad bought me a Crosman 760. A friend had a Daisy Powerline so I finangled my way into getting one of those. Used it for years shooting carp at my fishing hole.
Then I found a Webley Hurricane and and FWB 124, bought them both for $125. I used the Webley to shoot carp with until it finally broke, and use the FWB to this day.
At some point I had a Crosman 1377 ( I think… it was a pump pistol ).
Somewhere I picked up a Sheridan Blue Streak, and last November I picked up a used Condor.
It took me many months to iron out the wrinkles the Condor has, but now its a shooter with all 3 calibers I own for it.
I turned 16 in may.
My first pellet gun was a winchester 353, it was my dads when he was a kid. I could hit coke cans at 20 yards when I was 10. Nothing to be amazed over, but I thought it was pretty cool.
Second pellet gun was a Gamo shadow 1000. Never really was able to hit much of anything with this rifle, until I took the scope off.

My first air gun was my great grandfathers Red Ryder. He used it to chase cats out of his yard and lemme shoot it whenever I was there. I was about 6 at the time.
Had BB guns as a teen and then firearms when I was in my 20’s.
Been playing paintball for 15 years and bought my first “adult” air rifle 3 years ago to control squirrels and chipmunks. (Gamo Shadow 1000)
Doubt I’ll be without one again. Great fun for me.
41 here. Be 42 in Nov. Been shooting since as far back as i can remember. Started with a Daisy lever action, moved on to a Benji pump in .177, then .22 L.R. and .223, but bought a Beeman in Santa Rosa and have been hooked on air since. Gonna get a Tony shroud soon.
Hi I’m 58, 59 in October this year. Started shooting a 22 when I was 4 years old. Got my own BB gun at the ripe old age of 6. Thats when I started staying out most of the day during the summer time. Bought my first 30-06 when I turned 18. Various other rifles after that.
Got into run and gun competition in 1996 and have had 3 custom pistols built. Bought my 50 cal Boomer in 1999. What a kick in the butt. Reaching out to touch something at 1000 to 1400 yards is a kick.
Anyway I picked up my first airforce Talon SS in 22 last year and since then I might as well have sold my 50 and everything else, except my pistols as I still shoot the run and gun stuff.
I picked up a couple more Airforce guns this year and am in the process of having Tony pu together an 18″ barrel, a 70 gram hammer, and a shroud for my 22 SS. Can’t hardley wait to get them.
Thanks for haveing this Forum it has provided a lot of info for me and lots of others.

I’ve always observed there to be a large number of older gentlemen in this sport… commonly outdoing the younger gentlemen considering the “finess” of their toys.
Do you “over-the-hill” folks ever get looked at strangly when mentioning air guns to a non-airgunner?
I know I do, and I am but 24.
After all, pellet guns are for kids, eh?

32 years…..
airgunning since age 16….then stopped for financial reasons to get into paintballing wanted autococker couldnt afford it got a turbo mag instead….played for 1½ years knees couldnt take it….traded in for a Diana 68 .177…..piece of shit, soon sold it and had enough saved for an eliminator .22, then realized you could get a pump and bought a career mk2 .22 from mac1….took a month to arrive in denmark, lovely rifle !
sold career to get some funds for engagement ring…
eliminator got stolen in the train just after have being serviced….someone lifted it off the hat rack…while i was talking to my buddy sitting next to me….grrrrrr
bought a condor….what a piece of shit….quality ok…powercurve…so steep uphill you wouldnt belive it…and just as steep down again…the lawnmover showed better consistency throwing out pinecones !!!
started tweaking it….35 fpe 50 shots…now we are talking baout same time JSB got popular….
sold it too when we moved to the US….as i could sell it for much more than a new would be over here…..
bought an old SS for 320 had some hose stuff and other crap done to it that i reversed back….used that for a long time…..got a b50 .177 i tweaked to perfection for FT but never got started….since then its been talon .308/457, aa410ERB, more b50, B40, 3 crosmans….and lastly theoben mk2…modding some of them from .177 to .457 cal….the last b50 is gonna be 9mm i think…maybe….9mm bullpup i think…everything is a moving mess…i get tired of looking for one special tool i know i have…so quickly grow tired of modding…..the theoben is gonna be left as is….if david slade ever get it fixed and returned to me, what and expensive piece of shit
inbetween all of those i got my FID….got a .22lr and 17hmr….HMR rock
accesories for the stuff growing too….better optics…rangefinders…ezups shade, chairs etc.
NV and 410 had to go….sold them in denmark….now moving into handguns….glock17 is gonna be the starter….then some SW revolver…..357mag or .44 mag not sure yet…with all the wild pigs in CA…im leaning towards the 44mag hehe….then we will see where that will take me…
Turned 40 this year.
I was fortunate enough to have airguns at a young age 7 I think (you got to love fathers that hunt.) Grew up fishing, hunting so I have always had guns.
In my late 20’s I got involved with search & rescue.
In my 30’s I got into tactical firearms attending training when I could. To fund my hobby in February of 2000 I started a website called fscerts.com that showed people how to save money on firearms training at Front Sight. This allowed me to take my share of tactical courses including handgun, rifle, and sub gun.
In my late 30’s I learned about tactical knives and stopped playing with the handguns and tactical rifles so much.
My big thing is to go squirrel hunting in Cedarville, CA as many times as possible each year. Normally I do it with powder burners, but this year I mostly shot the talon SS, it kicked butt.
I think I will be hooked on air guns for a long time.
