Just ordered my first Edgun…say hi to the newb.

This is my first post, but I have been reading and enjoying your posts for the last week or so. I just ordered my first Edgun from Tony! I have a .25 R3M Long coming with the next shipment (Nov. that’s all he said). Tony is not the most talkative of fellows, is he? It took me 2 weeks to finally decide what I wanted. I have to say this site has helped me with my decision tremendously. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge with me. I haven’t seen a more loyal and proud family of members towards any other gun, as much as the Edgun….that is what swayed me over.
Well, now that the gun is ordered its time for a scope. Well here goes…. I want a scope with a 5-6 times zoom range that’s great in low light, not too heavy, not too long, parallax adjustments from 10 yards to infinity, great eye relief, great tracking, durable, good warranty, and under $1000 bucks. lol
Well…I really do…but its not gonna happen. I have however narrowed my selection down to 7. A couple are over my budget (as there always will be) and the rest are in range. Can this great forum help me in: #1 selecting the one best for me #2 Put the 7 selections in an order from best choice to worst choice (if there is a worst…they’re all quite good im sure).
Info about me: live in Houston Texas. Lots of places to go and shoot…including back yard, thick wooded areas near subdivisions, short drive to the north, south, east, and west with acres upon acres of undeveloped land. Some of it is open, some is wooded (nice to have friends with acres and acres of land). Lots of plinking, hunting birds, squirrels, rabbits, coons, bobcats, and coyotes, as well as target shooting (outdoors and not at a range). No point in shooting anything under 15 yards…very interested in acquiring the skills to shoot beyond 125 yards. Mostly 25-100 yards. Oh, and I do lots and lots of night shooting. So a good low light scope is B I G ! !
I look forward to all comments from anyone that has something to say…but im also looking for replies from Zocoloco, Knifemaker, Ted, and Oldgoat. Ted….you’re my hero! Mr. EdgunUSA himself…What?!? jk 😆

Somewhat what he said although the +-5,10,20 isn´t degrees but rather MOA at 100 yards.
You most likely need a pretty high ring. The ocular or eye piece will be most likely be over the rail and depending on the length/positioning perhaps the bell which requires even more clearance.
The size of that ocular varies quite a bit between scopes. Leupolds pretty sleek,Zeiss,Vortex,Hawke pretty big.
You need enough height for to clear the rail plus room for Butler Creek caps or camera mount if you desire to use them.
Quite a few people,including myself, have issue getting enough up adjustment out of our scopes with Ed’s built in cant.
Scopes I use have over 70MOA of adjustment and still couldn’t do it.
The Burris signature 30mm’s I mentioned earlier come with the necessary inserts +/- 10 and 20 degrees.
I put the +20 in front bottom, -20 back bottom, the zero’s on top.
The 1″ version only come with 0 degree and you need to buy additional insert kit for +/- 10,20,30 degree inserts.
The low signature Zee’s aren’t even able to mount a scope because of clearance issues.
The Extra high’s are the ones you want and they aren’t “extra high” with a scope on the Edgun at least in 30mm.
You’d have to check how the 1″ versions correlate.
Slanted because of this reason?
My quess is it´s slanted to gain some long range elevation so scopes don´t run out of adjustment.
Also is there enough room on the rail to mount a US Optics rail mount can’t indicator?

Isn’t that why Ed slanted the rail forward? To get the front of the scope lower? Is that new in the R3’s?
The Signature Zee´s are good for both protecting the tube from scratches and ring marks and you can get them with off-set inserts so you can keep the scope itself near optical/mechanical zero. Good rings. Another good set – almost similar – is Sako Optilock rings. Also with polymer inserts for same reason.
That said i use mainly UTG Heavy Duty QD rings on my airguns. Or Leupold copies from Greenbase. 
These are very sturdy ones and work for both 1″ & 30mm tubes (since you don´t know yet 😀 )

A good scope deserves good mounts and i have a feeling you want real branded quality stuff = get the Zee´s or Optilock´s !
With bullpups and rear tank guns it becomes a balance or more of a challenge. Trajectory wise, as close to the bore as possible is best. Ergonomically, a desire for a more comfortable cheek weld may force you to raise the scope up depending on your personal characteristics, i.e. face shape, length, etc.. to see through the scope the most comfortably and naturally.
Ok. But as far as mounting high vs very low to the barrel?
Still critical to minimize that distance. You need a scope level to eliminate cant error. I use all Vortex levels but there are other good ones. I just use Weaver grand slams 30mm so I can use the front ring top as a picanny mounting point for lasers and lights but the Burris are a very good choice.
Ok guys….question on rings. I’ve seen so many different pics of edguns. Some have their scopes mounted high some almost touching the barrel. Which is better for airguns? Is Burris signature the way to go? 30mm tube and 50mm objective on the Delta. 1″ tube and 50mm objective on the Zeiss. I want to zero the scope at less then 100 yards for sure….
I equate Vortex to Bushnell Elites. A small step down from the top scopes. My brother lives by them in Middleton Wisconsin.
He´ll answer tomorrow. The shop is closed on weekends. The warranty is ten years on the 4.5-30. That´s regulated on EU ruling for some reason. George is a man of his word so warranty issues are definitely not a problem – except for the shipping between continents. I´m 100% sure it won´t take long before Delta has a US importer and since the warranty is international…
I´m confident you´ll like the Delta. What´s not to like ?? Very good glass,good reticle for airgunning and more than fair price on the whole kaboodle.
BTW – even the two most bullheaded persons who always find something negative to remark on anything bought Delta´s after shooting with,clicking and looking thru mine ; Dr. Evil and one other pinhead who´s not a member on this Forum ,thank God for that. The honorable Doc bought a 4.5-30 (of course) and the other guy a 6-24 AO and he had already decided on Vortex but had a change of hearts.

Thank you FVA for a great detailed answer. So it looks like the high rings is the way to go. I’m still not understanding the purpose for Ed to slant the rail. If you zeroing the scope on top with inserts anyways? What’s the purpose of the slanted rail then? And secondly would there be enough room left on the rail to mount a cant indicator? These scopes are 13+ inches.
