Mrodair Compressor Guinea Pig
Hello, a newbie to PCP’s here.
I put in a pre-order for the upcoming Mrodair “Airmax” compressor
Thus, far just an automated acknowledgment receipt from Yahoo and haven’t heard anything more re ETA.
Yep, guinea pig ordering a new product. Hopefully it works out.

Well I’m in CA and most houses have a 30 amp 240v dryer plug. So it’s not a issue.
I didn’t pay $4000, I paid $3200 to door my door. If I wanted a rebuilt compressor it would have been $2700 or a smaller compressor for $2000.
What are they with the upgrades? $1500? Still only has a tiny water separator. Has nothing to guarantee dry air. I have a bigger one on my shop compressor and I still get moisture in my lines.
My compressor had a water separator and a 16″×4″ filter that produces grade E dry air for breathing.
Your compressor would probably die filling my 440 cf tank to 4900 psi. If not It wouldn’t take but a few times and it would.
Yes, I agree that 240 volts was probably a reasonable service voltage for the new compressor.
Going to 120 volts in an attempt to make it more friendly to existing wiring would have been a great idea if the actual amperage draw was lower.
Since the measured draw is so high, I’m going to need to install a new circuit anyways to safely power the compressor.
Sure someone could run it on a a lower rated circuit, but I’m not for running a circuit at its max. The points of potential disaster
would be hidden inside your walls.
So, my plan is to install a 30 amp RV 120 v circuit with just a 7 foot run of 10 g wire like…

I will also replace the plug on the compressor with one that will only fit a 30 amp circuit.
Leaving it possible to connect to a 15 amp circuit is not what I would recommend.
You can get away with it for brief runs, but I would be pretty nervous.
In hind sight in would have been the same amount of work to install a new 240 volt circuit.
I doubt MrodAir realized just how high the amp draw was going to be when they spec’ed the change.
Maybe if the motor was also spec’ed down in power this would have been smart. It would
be a slower compressor, but truly friendly to regular household 120 v circuits.
For me, it won’t make a problem since I’m going to
have the new circuit appropriately wired and sized.
I don’t see why anybody would buy a shoebox or expensive $4000 compressors. This is the real deal gentlemen. Get it now while its still $975.
Because my compressor will last me 20 years. It also fills a 88 cf SCBA tank from 3000 to 4800 psi in 6 min. I ran my compressor 2 days ago for around 50 min. I filled my 440 cf bottle from 3300 psi to 4900 psi and fill 5 scba tanks the same.
Compressor was 240v for a reason. Making it 120v and maxing out a breaker is wrong. Once these get out there people are going to be complaining about blowing there breaker. Plus starving a electric motor on to small of wire just wears It out faster.

240 is a real convenient for most folks here in the US. Most homes don’t have 240v outlets. Most homes however do have 20A circuit breakers. If the 240v version better? Of course, but there’s no harm with the 120v version.
Also if you get the upgrades package then you won’t have to chase around for bucket of water. But this works for me because I only fill my 88cu ft tank once or twice as month.
$975 is a good deal but now im seeing them on alibaba for $600 (minimum 10 order). That is crazy! Almost as crazy as paying $4000 for a compressor that last 20 years.

I also have a runtime hours meter that I plan to install.

Pity about the amperage requirements. I had wanted to run the compressor indoors to have a lower humidity level, but looks like it will have to be out in the garage.
Adding a dedicated, high amp outlet circuit will be easier to accomplish there.

I got the base version and am happy to report that all is well (except for the water pump that crapped out). This compressor is ABLE to top off your scba tank without overheating. I topped off my 88 cu ft from 3000 to 4500 psi with max temperature of 57C. The trick is to ditch the included water tank, its simply is not big enough. I suggest u use 5 gallon bucket or similar (I use a plastic recycling bin). Don’t know how the upgraded cooling is, will wait for other to review.

Wow, Guys. That’s getting a little out of hand. If I can be chill while waiting after paying, then so too can anyone who did not pay for one.
I would love to have the compressor like weeks ago, but I feel more like a kid waiting for Christmas to arrive.
And yes…. they were up front about shipping not being included.

Mrodair did collect $1000 from each one of those “customers”, upfront, each having to trust they would get a compressor, right? Or did I miss something?
It was $399 deposit, then $576 for rest of payment. Mrodair has always said that shipping was not included in this price. I give them credit for shipping out compressors before collecting shipping, trusting their customers as they trust him. I don’t think anybody should worry about receiving the compressor, it should be arriving real soon.
Do u have a beef with mrodair? Did he wrong u at some point?

No one argues that a true dive air compressor is best. That is not doubted anywhere.
What we are exploring with the MrodAir compressor is something that sits between the Freedom 8 and Bauer’s in design and pricing.
It’s a hole that has been left empty and worth exploring. Hence, my little “experiment” getting this machine.
The good, bad and ugly will be found over time.
Will the brass piston rings last?
Will the cooling system be adequate with the uprated radiator?
Do we need to do some fuxineering like we do with our guns to get best performance?
It will be an adventure to share.
