Q:

My Edgun R3 is finally here!

Edgun R3 .25 Long serial #0249 finally arrives after a long but very worthwhile wait.

Tony did a great job packing. The rifle was double boxed along with thick protective foam wrapped around each end and popcorn to fill any additional gaps.

This shipment has the new stainless steel bolt and a new breech. Internally it also has a new and more efficient valve.

The trigger doesn’t look like it has changed.

She will be getting a new scope soon but for now is wearing the Mueller 4.5-14×40 Tactical scope http://muelleroptics.com/mt451440

Thank you Ed! Thank you Tony!

kazzz, which program are you using to chart/graph your pellet velocity vs. shot count? And just like oldgoat asked, I would also like to know how to input these numbers into Chairgun. I’m not having any luck finding it myself.

You still need info or is the explanation of qpush enough?

Endo, yes that shot was 891! I hit the wrong number!

I haven’t shot the R3 standard any more, it is usuable the way it is set up right now and I have been trying to get my Boss project going.

I will adjust it again before spring gets here.

Tedd,
Sorry that I haven’t gotten a chance to visit my beloved TAG forum for more than a week now. Here is the graph. Your shot #36 blow out of my chart. That shot is incredible since it has broken the record with 991 fps in .25 Edgun Standard. But, I am not sure if it is real (see graph 1). I assumed you forgot to put on your glasses for recording that shot from the chronograph. Anyway, I used my magic finger to reduce the speed by 100 (see graph 2). It looks much better and match Dr. Edgun’s standard.
What is your most recent string? My pellets have arrived but busy on other things…
Regards,
Endo

No, I haven’t adjusted the R3 standard any more. I will eventually turn the reg up just a little and play with the HST screw before spring gets here.

A little Loctite wouldn’t hurt anything but, I doubt if it is needed. The locking screw seems to work just fine. I haven’t had the locking screw come loose and the reg adjusting screw move on any of my Matadors.

oldgoat, did you get a chance to do more tinkering and adjusting to your new Edgun this weekend? I decided to try to fine tune mine just a bit more but I have a question for Ed or you or anyone who may know before I finish up.

Can I put a little blue threadlock (Loctite) on the valve adjustment screw (on the sides only) so it cannot turn/change on me without opening the rifle up and using the allen tool to turn it? I would make sure the threadlock is totally dry before covering it with the locking screw and assembling the rifle and pressurizing back up.

Chairgun chart:

Chairgun –> Toolbox –> Statistics

click “clear” before starting your string, fill in your numbers in left column, click “analyze” once youre done/

Oldgoat in regards to your last post, I didn’t say it would be easy but I do think with the right tool it wouldn’t be as hard as you make it out to be. I did find humor as to your looking for a black mark in a black hole. A man of your ingenuity should be able to come up with something. I’m thinking of a tool with a changeable bit with guide to keep tool centered in tube with an indexing mark – wouldn’t need a black felt pen. Hey ted with all that being said I would be interested in how you feel the balance is between the .25 long and your new standard and if there is any preference one over the other. I too am impressed with Endo’s ability to graph our shooting strings, perhaps he will post “graphing for dummies” for us computer illiterates.

Mike how big a hole is there in the back end of the edgun with plug removed? they make allen wrench built into a 3/8 socket head and you can buy long extensions for 3/8 ratchet wrench, if you don’t have that much room, you can go with a 1/4 socket and weld an allen wrench in one of the sockets that fit close

ps. here is your graph:

Narrowed down:

Ted,

Happy to help you… Send me a mail when your available and i’ll show you the
Magic!

Mike; I tried the LONG screwdriver setup that Naser came up with that he posted it here. For this oldgoat, it was too damn hard for me to try to shine a flashlight down the air tube and around the screwdriver to see WTF I was doing! My new R3 25 standard takes 2 different hex keys for the reg lock screw and the reg adjuster screw. The screwdriver is out and you would have to find something to hold 2 different sized hex keys.

Also, just how in the hell are you supposed to get a black marker all of the way down there to mark the reg and adjuster before you adjust it? Even if I could find a way to get the black marker down there, this oldgoat is too damn shaky to put accurate marks on something that far away!

I did get my R3 25 standard adjusted almost to the way that I want. It is currently at the 4:45 position. The stock setup shot 957 by turning the HST up for the max speed.

Somebody here said that I could just plug the numbers into Chairgun and it would print out a graph. I couldn’t find out how to do it and I know that Endo will come to my rescue!

After the second adjustment, I saw a max speed of 895 by adjusting the HST up until the speeds started dropping. I then turned it back out until I was in the 885 range.

My numbers for the second adjustment are in the ball park and I will try turning the HST up a little for the next string. I have a real phobia for speeds in the 870s so a little more HST should get the speeds in the mid-high 880s and might smooth out the EV also.

888, 880, 880, 884, 883, 881, 883, 879, 884, 885, 882, 881, 882, 884, 878, 878, 882, 885, 878, 883, 880, 884, 882, 881, 883, 880, 882, 876, 873, 882, 881, 879, 878, 883, 880, 991, 878, 880, 885, 880, 880, 877.

It currently looks like my gun will get around 44 regulated shots. I was thinking that it would only get around 40. I am not very happy with the couple of shots in the low 970s and the next step is to turn the HST up a little. I might lose 1-2 regulated shots but, the string should flatten out and keep me out of the 870s.

Would somebody PM me with a step by step on just how in the Hell I can plug these numbers into Chairgun?

Endo; it is 2:30 AM here and I will sleep to 10 AM. When I wake up and get on the TAG, I FULLY EXPECT you to have the chart posted! That is the least that you can do! 😆
