Ranger 45
Well I have a tracking number for the Ranger 45 that was assembled, test fired, chronyed, and shipped today.
28 inch barrel, standard stock and black crerakote finish, $1230 dollars including shipping.
To early to get the arrival date, it is not in the system yet.
Chrony numbers were:
Round ball. low setting 3000 PSI……1018 FPS
225………. low setting 3000 PSI……..877 FPS
405 shot 1 hi setting 4500 PSI………804 FPS
340 shot 2 hi setting 4500 PSI………843 FPS
These numbers will improve by 30 to 50 FPS as the rifle breaks in.

I tried Butchers 200 grain bullets, they shot in the low to mid 800’s But the gun did not seem to like them, they did not group very well.
This barrel is shooting the 385 grain bullets in the 775 to 840 range for two shots and then down to 690 to 700 for the third with a 4000 PSI fill, which is where my tank was at by the time I got to the 385 grain bullets.
At 50 yards that puts the first shot about 3 inches high and the next two right on. filling and shooting again gives those two groups, one high and one right on.
Need to get some cast bullets from Oregon Trail and break this barrel in.

salem has a wholesale sports , they have the 250 grain rn fp oregon trail bullets $58.99 for 500 if you are close enough to those guys

Yes they do have a flat point and weigh 200 grains.

I’ve been tellin folks for years just how easy airguns come apart. This one is just as easy as most which makes it really nice to work on if need be.

boom ! BOOM ! i can’t wait to test that port out, next week it looks like , heck i will have to shoot some video , maybe have you put some uncle Jeb’s magic on it ! BOOM !
RC I have ran all these through my rifle with very good results . All casted with a 12-22 bhn lead .
142 grain
188 grain
224 grain
260 grain
Or were they the flat nose 200 grainers? Forgot about those…..they were to small for my barrel,

I’m curious how those 260grainers shoot, as I have the most of those. Oh, and the EPP/UG’s as well.
I haven’t had much luck with the 200grainers either, if you mean the original ROA design in BHN9 lead.

I cleaned it and inspected it before mounting it, I do not have a barrel scope tho.

Given the first barrel was not adequate, I assume you’ve scoped the replacement?
I got the barrel today and following instructions that Dan had emailed me I changed it out.
The following is that proccedure, this rifle looks like a Disco on steroids.
First, after taking it out of the stock, you take off the scope and the front barrel band
Then you take out the hammer spring retaining bolt and take the pressure off the hammer and remove the spring.
Then you take out the breech screw, like on a Disco or 2240. Then you seperate the upper and lower receiver.
Then you unscrew the barrel, if it is tight you use the barrel band as a wrench, mine was not tight. You can see the transfer port in the photo
When you reassemble it is just the same thing in reverse, except you must align the transfer port in the reciever.
I am astounded by how easy this was, this would also be the same preccedure for a caliber change, except with the Muzzleloader unit has its own reciever and you would not need to remove the barrel.
This gun is so well made and easy to work on.

We are about a 100 mile round trip from here, and a phone call away from Oregon trail in Baker Or.
I am just going to order some of those 360 grain Trueshots and some 300 grain cast bullets from them. The freight is a lot less than I would spend on gas. I used to order from them about 10 years ago.
S&M Sporting Goods here in UUUgeeen has some Oregon trail bullets, but they are all round nose 45 ACP’s
I took the Ranger apart again tonight, just because I can and it is so easy to break it down, wish my AF rilfes were that easy.
I suppose I will have to break down and get the 58 caliber barrel/reciever also, puts the Royale another 400 bucks further out.
I was hoping to do the bird predation work with a Royale this fall, but it looks like I may have to use the 58 😈 .
