Q:

Tactical Sniper

Decided to bite the big bore bullet and ordered a Evanix Tactical Sniper in .357 last night the after santa 10% discount made it hard to resist.

I friend that I converted to air guns had just gotten a Rainstorm 3D bullpup, was a hoot to shoot so I had to get my own, didn’t want the same thing, couldn’t afford the semi autos so went with the sniper. :4:

Already trying to figure out how to make it more neighbor friendly 😯

pulled the gun apart – well a little bit anyway, removed the stock and pistol grip so I could get at the spring an hammer.
Pulled it out, couple of metal shavings came with it.. 😯

cleaned up some metal edges and polished the hammer a bit, put some good lube on to and back together – easier said than done, have to compress the spring to get the plug back in 😕

Found to the hard way that the barrel bushing is just pressed in, started drilling some holes in the shroud behind where the bushing should be and it moved, ended up drilling several holes in it. :butkick:

once I realized what was happening I stopped and cleaned everything up.. once I can either afford a tap or get my lathe back on line I’ll make the barrel free floating and put the LDC directly on the barrel

should be interesting

the way the barrel and shroud and put together it is very ridged, the barrel is not free floating. I decided to try something and took the shroud off and shot it. I got a very respectable group from the 105 flat points. I might do a bit more experimenting and then if it looks promising cut the shroud back to the barrel band an make my current LDC mount to the barrel.

Why not just get rid of the shroud all together? the forearm is mounted to it, the shroud is what hold it in place. I might see if I can get the bushing out of the shroud and make the end of the barrel at least partially free floating like the marauder – that would also gain me the use of the air space in the shroud, not sure how do able it is with out cutting or otherwise destroying the shroud. :but kick:

it’s also interesting that my LDC causes the 105’s to shoot about 3-4″ left compared to every thing else….. 😯

here ya go caboose – hope they help, let me know if you need more – the place the stock mounts on the receiver is actually part of the receiver – machined from one piece of metal, quite nice

Hmmm. Definitely around where the butt meets the stock, the back of the stock where the locking mechanism is, where the butt-tubes (that sounds wrong!) Go into the stock… oh- the grip and trigger area. Thanks!

quote Caboose212:

What new design did you try? Could you possibly send me some more pictures of the stock? Overall, it looks like a good layout for my EBR-ish Dawson build… close ups. The pyramyd pics aren’t close enough.. and the net doesn’t have good ones either.

Any area in particular? I’ll try and get some tomorrow.

Metal

Is the stock plastic or metal? Not the butt assembly, the part that the rifle is put in.

Yep, got it printed, just too lazy to de-gas the gun and pump it back up 😆

just tried some new baffles, the simpler ones are still quieter. Might play with them some more later

Did you manage to print the depinger? Once I got my NC LDC the depinger didn’t seem as effective as it was before. The ping is a lot more noticeable now, even after I thought I got it under control.

Got my new scope one tonight, got to sight it in and take a few shots before it got dark – much better, so far my gun seems to like the JSB’s the best, had a nice grp going with the 105’s (but 3″ left) that then started to open up. 95 gr, either the .356. or .358 did ok, but nothing to write home about, we’ll see how things far at 50 yards, hopefully Sunday. Also hope to run some over the chrony

printing up some new baffles to try too.

That is too cool!! :8:

Printed up a cover for my fill probe, hope to keep it clean and lubed when in storage or being moved around

No worries! Its why I’m here!! :8:

Thanks caboose they have quite a selection of goodies there, will have to look into that ERB when I get some more funds
